Bee Problem at AKV Status

Would everyone who has recently been to AKV respond with their experience on the bee problem? I've read some reports of not being able to go on the balcony at all due to swarming bees.

We are checking in on Tuesday and I am quite concerned about it.

Thanks I am really thinking of moving if possible as the main reason for booking AKV is the savannah view balcony.

I personally would not worry about it, as we've never had a bee problem for any of our visits.

We just spent 10 nights there in July and didn't see so much as a fly near our wonderful balcony.

We were at Kidani, savanna view, Pembe savanna if that helps.

Nothing around the Kidani pool either - except 1 or 2 near the mug refill station - but seriously - not a big deal there.

A few years ago, I had bees on the balcony at Jambo. People came right away to get rid of them, so the problems is taken care of as soon as management is notified. I also had a bee problem taken care of at OKW's balcony.

I don't know about Florida, but the bees were really bad here in South/Cental Texas this year. I had two swarms to get rid of, one took up residence in the soffit of our garage, the other in the soffit of the house.

Bee swarming season seems to be over for our area. Usually they swarm in the Spring. So hopefully it is over for Florida, too.

We were in Kidani from 8/8 to 8/12 and I don't recall seeing any bees and we spent a decent amount of time out on the balcony.

. Do they have those in WDW since the climate's similar?

We just returned from a 5 night stay at Jambo house. The bees were terrible. They were all around the walkways, pool area, and our balcony on the 5 th floor. We could not use our balcony. They gave us a $75 credit because of this. If you have your choice where to stay, sounds like Kidani is not as bad. Definitely a problem at Jambo.

We do have Africanized bees in Florida, including the WDW area. They are indistinguisable from regular bees, except for the fact that they swarm and nest in HUGE numbers (20,000 and up instead of a couple hundred).

Africanized bees are very aggressive and very dangerous. There's nothing special about their venom, but they attack in such large numbers that they simply overwhelm the body's defenses sometimes. Most of the serious medical issues with Africanized bees are not allergic reactions, just very heavy envenomation to the point of becoming toxic.

Actual attacks on humans are rare, but definitely a threat.

Just got back, too. At Kidani pool there were more horseflies than any other pool, we chalked it up to the animals around. TL and Blizzard Beach shut down their refillable stations from the bees around machines and when the CM emptied the garbages, swarms of bees came out around food areas. Not having refillable drinks was a bummer..it was hot. Bring your own frozen waters if going there.

Did you have any sense about whether the issue was unique to your room/vicinity or whether it was building-wide? I think it was your post about this same incident in another thread that started OP panicking

All I could find online were references to similar localized incidents where bees start a hive/swarm in a specific location, which is then treated locally.

They were everywhere. Now obviously I wasn't able to be on everyone's balcony, but I will tell you I had a friend also on the 5th floor, and they had bees as well. We saw the exterminator truck outside Jambo house on several occasions. If one is only out on their balcony a second or two, maybe they didn't notice them. We are balcony sitters, so after 5 minutes, there were plenty enough to have to leave.

Yes....LOL! That is why I am in a panic! Apparently is it contagious because DH just walked in ad asked "Anything new on the bee situation."

is going to end in the shape of "C" for some bee's if too many show up on the balconies of my FIRST Jambo GV next month That is not the africanized experience we are hoping for! If your below a Jambo GV Sep 26 - Oct 2 and see what you think might be coming from above, look twice it may just be RAID.....just sayin'

We were just at Kidani (savanna view) from 8/15-8/21 and we did not have any bees on our balcony at all. As another poster mentioned, the pool mug refill station had a "trap" set up near it on one day, but that was it. Over at Jambo though, there was one area near the doors by Jiko and Boma that had some swarming. I only noticed it b/c our photopass photographer would have taken some shots there had there not been all the bees.

None of this would keep me away from AKL though! Enjoy your stay!

We were there end of April and the bees were everywhere. There was a swarm of bees on our balcony so they moved us to a different room. However it did not seem any better as the bees seem to everywhere and we were afraid to use our balcony or send our kids out. We are DVC members and had a savannah view room so I complained at the front desk. They were very nice and credited some of the points back. We did see the exterminator trucks everyday during our week stay.

Needless to say we are afraid to go back to Jambo House and will probably not waste our points getting Savannah view in the future.
