Bedspreads and Blankets NOT Washed?

I guess we are not the norm here but we are not freaked out by this stuff at all. I think about it a little but really I just don't think that it will get me sick (granted I don't have any kids). someone posted that they don't even sit on the bedspreads...do you go to the movies? Do you sit in those chairs because I bet those are NEVER cleaned. I guess my point is that sometimes you stay healthy by having a bit of germs in your life. Just my two cents.

I'll sit on the bedspread and anywhere else in my "street" clothes. But after I shower and am in "clean" clothes like my PJ's I, personally, expect to sit on something just as clean.

Of course, if it is clean street clothes that I expect to go out in eventually, I will sit on the sofas, etc. in the room. But if I am in my PJ's already, I have been known to spread a towel on the sofa before I sit down... :rolleyes1

It's not so much as microscopic germs or bacteria - I'm fine with those. It's someone else's dirt, body fluids (snot), etc. that I prefer not on me after I shower and am suppose to be clean for the night...

Yes, I thought they cleaned the spreads between guests. I will now be bringing my own duvet covers for the blankets and spreads....I don't carry lysol with me or antibacterial wipes but sleeping in or under something that has not been washed grosses me out! I also do not walk barefoot in the rooms. Airplane seats give great concern for bugs, etc....YUCK!!! Have you ever looked at a doctor's waiting room..the wall above the chairs is gross from people's heads!:scared:

I have also gotten sick on at least one trip per year to disney...the last time was in April and I had to miss the Pirate and Princess party that we had tickets for.(my husband and daughter had a wonderful time and I missed her Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience)...gee wonder where the germs came from considering I got sick after being in our room for 72 hours! I tend to be a very natural person but I draw the line at unclean bedding!!

I've never thought twice about airline seats. Here's one that will gross you out - I've seen people go to the restroom in a plane in their bare feet!

You stayed in your room for 72 straight hours? Or were you out in the parks around thousands of people?

Wow... Some of ya'll well... wow...

What does not kill us, only makes us stronger

Last year Marriott sent a letter to all its timeshare membership stating that they are going to go above and beyond the standard in the industry, and went on to pledge a complete bed change including blankets and bedspreads, full dishwashing of all dishes, pots and pans, and so forth, before every guest check-in. I sent a copy to DVC asking when they were going to institute the same standards as Marriott, and got a strongly worded return letter from DVC stating that they ALREADY do those things as a matter of course, and therefore did not need to send their membership any letter stating that they were going to start doing this. Maybe they should...:rolleyes1

Increased germ fears crop up as a phenomenon every now and then - it may be connected to a period of social or economic stress. This is in addition to being told by manufacturers (who buy air time and ad space) and media (who sell air time and ad space) that we NEED these products to protect ourselves. Currently, marketing wizards are mining big bucks from the germ-a-fad. And, of course, millions of edgy consumers have fallen for the marketing. Big time. They shell out billions for products to "protect" them from an unseen world.

If smearing sanitizers and wipes all over the immediate vicinity or bringing sheets from home makes someone feel better or safer or more in control, I guess it's cheaper than therapy.

DisFlan

True, but the widespread indiscriminate use of sanitizers and antibiotics (in pens, laundry detergent, etc.) does select for more virulent germies.

And those are the ones to worry about......

MRSA or Multi-Drug Resistant TB anyone?

:happytv:

Should what?, send the letter or actually do it - since if they DID wash all dishes and change all beds, we wouldn't find nearly the number of "uh, lipstick on the cup!" reports.

I don't believe for a second Disney washes out all the bedspreads and blankets between every guest - or the laundry carts would be MUCH more full in the hallways.

Bedspreads are not going to make anyone sick, gross you out; maybe.

Other people make you sick, people on planes, buses, restaurants, etc.

Disney changes out bedspreads for clean ones about once a month unless something happens to make it sooner.

I have no idea if they gross people out, just take them off the bed.

The sofa is probably just as gross as the bed and I am sure most people never give it a though.

No disrespect but some of these comments make we wonder how some travel anywhere. :confused3

How can you relax and enjoy your time at Disney if you are constantly spraying, washing and disinfecting? If you want to talk germs . . . I spent 30 years in second grade with all kinds of body fluids!!! We stay at the BW every year and I have never sprayed or washed anything and always walk barefoot. I am never sick . At retirement I was recognized for near perfect attendance. I agree that exposure only makes you stronger. As I stated before, we do bring flat sheets to cover the bedspreads. relax and enjoy!:dance3:

I totally agree. With each and every DVC trip we have had I have found dirty pots or pans in the cabinets. I didn't think housekeeping checked all of this anyway but I sure wonder about guests who would use these items and then just put them back dirty. :confused3 Do they do this at home? Makes you wonder.
And as for spending the entire time spraying and wiping down, I'm not obsessive but I figure it can't hurt. We always cover the sofa before our little DGS even sits on it. (also trying to keep it free from any spills or soiling) Before I started doing that I came home sick on every trip. No doubt due to the different germs than my body was used to. I don't let it freak me out but if it makes me feel safer doing it than it's going to make for a happier vacation.
