Do what you feel is most comfortable! If you want separate blankets, then so be it. My hubby and I have been married 10 years, and 3 nights out of the week we sleep in separate bedrooms!
Our schedules conflict once in awhile so if we want a good night's sleep, we need to occasionally sleep apart.

And I have to say I had no idea people had separate bedding.
This is the first I have heard of this. DH & I have a King bed and we have sheets, one King blanket and one King comforter and really that does give us allot of extra room with the size and length of the bedding. We have rarely had an issue with 'stealing' covers.

I'm also in my 20s and married to a covers-stealer!
Myself, I like to have my feet covered, but only cover my body up to my chest. Early in our marriage, we were usually playing "tug of war" with the blanket. Finally, had the idea of two blankets!
