Bed bugs at pop century

Don't accept bldg 7 , 80's section. Front desk knew there was a problem with those rooms because I was told by management other guests had complained and yet they still put new people there.

I will keep this in mind for sure!

We'll be at Pop next month too. Try not to worry. Just doublecheck. :goodvibes
It's my biggest fear when staying at a hotel.

My biggest fear too! For a while in NYC they we're everywhere movies offices etc I was freaking out all the time! Hopefully we will both be good!

I'm sorry this happened to you and agree it must be an absolute nightmare. I too just returned from the POP (50s Section, Bldg 3) and had no problems. Bedbugs definitely can and do happen in all hotels whether budget or upscale. It only takes one guest with one infected suitcase to start the chain reaction. Hotels must bring in specialists to perform repeat sprayings of infected areas. It takes time to slow the infestation. Weeks and sometimes months before a room is really clear. As a PP mentioned, this is a result of the ban on the more effective (but also dangerous) treatments that were used decades ago. I agree with all of the above suggestions re putting your suitcase in the bathtub when you first arrive and doing a thorough check. When I get home, my suitcase & carry-on stay in the garage for weeks. I won't take the chance of bringing bedbugs into my home. I put all my dirty clothes in a garbage bag and march them straight to the washing machine. Once I finish my unpacking, I spray both the suitcase and carry-on with some Lysol (which won't kill bedbugs but makes me feel better) and they stay in the garage until my next trip. Since I live in Canada, the cold freeze of the garage may make life unpleasant for any hitchhikers but those travel bags don't see the inside of my house for months. Maybe a bit paranoid but the $ and worry of having to deal with bedbugs in your own home just isn't worth it.

I agree, from now on I am checking the room before we unpack. I do think that housekeeping should be trained to check for bedbugs and they need to be a little more diligent overall. I really felt pop century was lacking in the housekeeping department .When I noticed the millipede bugs, I called the front desk just for them to spray, which they did, but we still had bugs, both dead and alive on the floors and walls. The next day a runner took me to look at two different rooms as a possible room switch, they were both dirty, one had used bandages stuck on the bed sheet and trash on the floor, the other had red punch stains all over the carpet and dirty towels in the tub. At that point I was still willing to just switch to another bldg until I found out about the bed bugs. I realize it's a huge issue in the resort industry now and that it's not necessarily a cleanliness issue; however, if there were a higher standard of diligence it would help in prevention. I'm really not knocking pop century, we stayed there a few years ago and really liked it, thought it was clean , no issues at all. This experience was a whole different story.

That is just all gross. Ewwwwwwwww.

It doesn't matter that it happens at all hotels. When you're a victim or see people down the hall with them, it can taint that resort forever. Been there. Shudder!

We just returned from a 10 day stay... Two nights at AoA and 7 at Grand Floridian. I did my normal checks, but I was still relieved when we came home bed bug free.

I have a friend that works as housekeeping in disneyy she gets between 17-19 rooms a day. There is no time to check for bedbugs.

It was gross and I was stressed out during that whole trip.

We stayed at Pop in December of 2013 without any problem. We did see & meet their canine bed bug specialist. lol

A very cute little beagle who was being lead from room to room on the main floor in the 60s building closest to the food court.

We always do a check of the rooms we stay in anywhere, Disney resorts are no exception... umpteen on site stays, zero problems in the bed bug area, so far!

But that costs money.

I stayed there in 2013, 60's section facing the lake, no problem and really enjoyed our stay. I'm glad you didn't have any bed bug problems. We've stayed at akl, port Orleans riverside and French quarters, yacht club, Caribbean beach and ft wilderness cabins all without incidents, guess there's a first time for everything!

Look folks, bed bugs say nothing about the hotel. They usually come in on luggage. Any hotel can get them. Two bags touch in a plane, one has bed bugs and suddenly two have bed bugs. Because of this it's meaningless to tell people to avoid a building. You could be bringing them in yourself. No amount of housekeeping investigation can find that.

What really matters is what the hotel does whe notified. And from a hotelier here, I can tell you Disney is known to be one of the best. They clean the people's clothes, luggage and room. And rooms around the object room. One of the best!

You do not prevent getting bed bugs by avoiding any building or hotel. You can lessen the probability by checking your luggage before you enter your room. Then, check the beds etc in your room. If you find any in either case immediately inform the hotel management. They want to know so they can clean the place. But don't do something silly like avoiding a building, especially at Disney where they will have addressed the issue before you even heard of it.

Sure, you can get bedbugs anywhere. But if you hear about a particularly high incidence of bed bugs at a resort or in a certain building within a resort, why wouldn't you avoid it if you could? :confused3 I don't think that it's silly at all, especially if you've had to deal with getting rid of those suckers.

Anyone have specific tips what to look for? are they easy to see if you pull down the covers? Should I bring a magnifying glass??! kidding. sort of.
Yes I am childishly panicking now, but glad I read this not sure I wouldve thought to check and we arrive in 3 days!

I was staying at Beach Club Villas last Christmas and encountered them in our studio room. Now if it was only one bedbug I can understand, but if you found three of them like us. One in the sofabed and two in the bed, that room is infested. Nethertheless, Disney was very good in moving us quickly. They treated all the clothes including shoes we wore on that day. Luckily our luggage was by the front door.

Look in mattress crevices, behind picture frames. Near outlets. Behind headboards. Take a flashlight or the light of your phone and look in the crevices of the bed frame. If you see brown spots on the mattress, like little dots, that is their droppings. There is no need to panic. It happens. What you can do is use the plastic vacuum bags and pack your clothes in those. That's what I do. I take the dirty clothes and use the Disney laundry bag and wash my clothes then re-pack in the plastic storage bags.

We had bedbugs at POFQ in August. I had bites and woke up from it. I pulled back the sheets and found one crawling on the bed. Next time I stay at any resort, I'll take a flashlight, take off all the sheets and check everywhere, behind the headboard and any furniture. Put suitcases in the bathtub and not on the floor or bed. I never want to experience them again.
