Bed Bugs at DL hotel.....

We always check the room when we first arrive for bed bugs. Check the beds (the mattress, between the mattress and the box spring, all the edges of the mattress and frame), the headboard, the curtains, the lamp shades, and even behind the picture frames! All places they like to hide! Not only do I look for them, but I also look for brown/reddish stains which is their "droppings". EWWW!!

Okay, so they are big enough you can actually see them if you look in these places, even when it's light? Cause now I will definitely be doing this no matter where we stay. And how do you do it without messing the sheets up so bad you can't sleep in it? Cause inevitably I can never re-make a bed as nice as house-keeping, lol.

I am sooo grossed out. I will check the next hotel I get into.
oh roaches, I would never stay in that room again. how did you sleep!!!

Absolutely! If you find where they are hiding, and even where they've been, you'll see them!

Here is a site that shows pictures (gross stuff, so I warn you ahead of time!). But it shows you what they look like, and what a mattress looks like:

Now it's no reason to panic or never travel, but it's worth taking 10 minutes out of the beginning of the trip and making sure you won't have any problems. Not only will it ruin a trip waking up finding you were being bit up all night, but you really DO NOT want to bring those home with you! And yes, I've been known to mess up the sheets pretty bad. But I've gotten good at fixing it up the best I can! I wonder what housekeeping thinks we were doing with that bed! LOL

Oh my gosh, I am SO showing DH that website tonight! I can barely look at it (extreme fear of bugs), and he had better know what to do so HE can check those areas when we get in the room. :)

I think it says on the website that they start off the size of pinheads. So if the infestation is a new one (just starting) you probably wouldn't be able to see it. You'll see it when it gets really bad and they start moulting and staining, etc. So probably good to look for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if pople got bitten and looked and saw nothing there especially if it's a new infestation. :scared1: Gross!

That's true too unfortunately! And I've heard of them hiding in the walls (if there are small cracks) and in the carpets. So my guess is sometimes it can be missed! Especially if it's a new infestation. Scary!!

We stayed at the DLH before and never had any problems with bedbugs or anything else.

Thanks for the link, now I know what they look like and what to look for!

Wow! I have never thought twice to look for bed bugs, as we always stay in nice hotels. It's true that people will find nasty creatures in nice places, so for now on I'm checking out my hotel room even in 4 star hotels! Were heading to DLH in 4days!

We stayed there in June and did the check and found nothing. Going back in June again and am not worried.:cool1:

Thankfully we've never found them either, and we've stayed at the DLH and GCH several times. Never found any across the street at the Tropicana either. But that won't stop me from checking, it's well worth it! :)

Yea, I think it might be better to at least check it out where ever you are. I think it is worth it. Maybe you can avoid that feeling of laying there in the bed and getting that creepy crawly feeling, I hate that.

you know, even if I do a check, I am still gonna be all freaked out! haha they are gross little buggers.

We had few cases of lice going around at school (thankfully we didn't get it! I couldn't imagine Georgia getting it! Her hair is super thick andcurly) and I am still all ichy and its been gone for weeks now!

I should have never gone to that web site. My stomach is turning right now from it. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Thank goodness I have never seen anything like that at any of the DL resorts. EWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

I was looking at this thread yesterday and last night I had a dream about a big hole in the wall with bed bugs comming out of it and going on my sisters bed. It scared the heck out of me!!!! I should have never looked. :( :scared:

Whatever hotel that was in WDW with the cockroaches, I am going to write it down. I have a phobia of them, and want to stay very clear when we go in the future.

As far as bed bugs go, I have never encountered them but I always think about them at hotels. I do not look for them because I am too scared (kind of dumb, I know.) I don't really like looking around hotel rooms out of fear I'll find something gross an old guest left behind. I can never get truly comfortable as a result.

We have always stayed at the Paradise Pier Hotel and never had problems w/ any insects. This fall, we were planning on trying out the Disneyland Hotel. It would be great to hear a follow-up from the original poster concerning the rash. However, it looks like a false alarm.

It could very well be bedbugs, but just because they're in one room doesn't mean they're in every room. Don't be afraid of staying at DLH, just make sure you check the bed as soon as you enter the room.

Quickly toss the covers back and see if any little bugs run (they're very small). Look in the creases of the mattress for red marks, this is the feces, red from the blood they are sucking. Look behind the mattress on the headboard to see if there is anything. It's hard to see the bugs themselves, but if they are there you'll see other signs. The websites already given give more complete information.

We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn September of 06, we had two connecting rooms. The two people staying in room had bedbugs, but they weren't in the other room. And actually, it was one bed of the two that had them really bad. The person sleeping in that bed was covered in bites. The person in the other bed had a few. We did report it to CCI management at the time.

(This is not intended to bash CCI or keep people away. Any hotel can have this problem, even the most expensive.)

.

must tell you (from having lived in FL for a few years as a child) everyone we knew had the exterminator come in once a month...it's just a very buggy place, some places even have issues with frogs;)

guess it's a trade off for living in near tropical conditions, they thrive in the warm, damp weather.:confused3

If you get up early enough in the am @ WDW, you'll find the big trucks that roam around the grounds spraying all the foliage to keep the critters @ bay.

ps - i sat up ALL night (while DH & DS slept like babies) with a flashlight shining it off & on towards the wall...they'd scamper back down behind the sofa bed:upsidedow still gives me the creeps. I should've gone & slept on a couch in the lobby in my nightgown, maybe then the mgr would've appeared.
