Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Morning Lean Meaners,

Cindy I know you weren't totally happy with your time at the 1/2, but that time to me sounds awesome. :worship: :worship: I love the covered bridges.

Maria So sorry to hear about Gecko. :sad2: But :woohoo: on the 7 pounds.

Lisa I almost get all teary when I think of how far I have come since february of this year. From only being able to run MAYBE a tenth of mile, to running over 2 at a sort of respectable pace in 6 months. I :lovestruc mojitos. I spent the weekend perfecting my recipe. I think I've finally got it just right. Also :woohoo: on your runs this weekend.

Howard, Mike As usual :worship: :worship: .

Jeff Congrats again on DL 1/2. It looks like it was alot of fun.

Dave :yay: for your race! and I :lovestruc the snark bit term! GL with your class.

 to everyone!

Elbow is better. Got in 3 hot miles walking yesterday. Hope to run today AND do pilates. Fell off the eating wagon this weekend. Cheese fries, krispy kremes :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 Not to mention mojitos and beer.

Have a good day lean meaners!

Hey Lean Mean Brigade!

I've decided to test a new theory this month -- I am limiting my junk carbs as much as possible -- that means I'm not eating cookies, cake, crackers, etc., even the 100 cal kind, unless I'm feeling like I just have to (I expect that to come eventually). I am not good at eating a serving of these foods, so I thought I'd try doing without them and see if my belly is less pronounced. I'm not going so far as to call it "low carb", more like "lower carb". Anyway, I'm making a conscious effort to reach for fruit instead of a 100 cal pack. I'm going to give it a month and see what I think...and what my clothes say! :lmao:

AmyK -- I discovered mojitos and I am a fan! :thumbsup2 I rarely drink, but this is now on my very limited menu.

Tracey -- Thank you for the sympathy, it helps. Allergies are just evil! We have had a pretty mild summer, but I'm afraid I'll get hit hard again this Fall.

Lisa -- Ok, you can officially be "super speedy", too! The parade and frog races sound really fun. I'm glad you had a good weekend overall! :yay:

I'm also going back to pescatarian Thanks, Debra! Fridays. I'm perfectly happy just eating fish for dinner on Friday (I already have a veggie entree for lunch), so I'm just going to make it a plan unless we have a special occasion. That will be a good start to my weekends, unlike my usual Fridayfest...

What are you going to do this month to make you happier on Oct. 1st? :listen:

Maria :upsidedow

I think my september goal will be to be more consistent with my stretching pre/post running. I will try for about 10 minutes total (before and after).

Maria Your goal sounds good. I  those 100 calorie packs. I really really need to do a food goal. I hope I can come up with a reasonable one for october.

I just wanted to pop in to say Hello. Work is really hectic right now. I hope it calms down soon.

We are off to Disney's Vero Beach resort this Saturday for ONE WEEK!!! I just hope the Hurricanes miss us! Hopefully when we return I'll be able to catch up!

I think of you all often!
Stacie

Stacie I love Disney's Vero Beach. We went there last year for a long weekend for our babymoon! RELAX and Enjoy! :goodvibes

We're off to the OuterBanks on the 12th for a week. Hoping all the storms miss us too!

Amy~ You're funny! :worship: :rotfl:

Good Morning Everyone!

Got in my 25 minute run, with warm up and cool down I ended up with 3 miles. Also did my stretching and 130 crunches!

DH did find my pilates DVD that was MIA, so I can do that tonight.

Lisa I totally agree with Maria, you are super speedy! :worship: Right there with our other speed demons!

Tracey I can't wait until DD can get out on some walks with me. It sounds like your boys are a good source of motivation! :goodvibes

I am back on the food wagon. I did really good yesterday! :woohoo:

Have a good day everyone!

Well, I got back from our trip to WDW on Monday, and promptly got the flu! It had been brewing while we were there, but I think I basically refused to give into it. I've been feeling really rotten yesterday & today but needed to drag myself into work anyway since school is just beginning. :sad2:

This has put a crimp in my plans to get right back into my training. I didn't run at all in WDW (by myself with 4 kids there was just no way that was happening!), so now it has been 10 days!!! I'm going to just have to trust my training because I think it would not be smart to go running with this cough and fever! Hopefully I'll be better by the weekend.

The good news is that despite no running, and eating like a pig while in WDW I actually lost 1 pound!! I was really shocked when I got home. All the walking (and sweating!) must have counted for something. Now that I'm home I'll get back on the wagon - only 11 more pounds to go!

Oh - and we had an awesome time on our trip! I loved staying at the Poly, and may be spoiled for life. I am considering switching from WL to the Poly for Marathon weekend, but for now it's booked. I'll keep on checking though.

Since there is no way I'll be able to catch up, I'll just send out a general "hello" to everyone. I hope you all had a great week!

Hi Everyone!

Welcome back Kira! Get well soon!

I went out tonight and dogged it a bit. :rolleyes1

Miles: 8.01
Time: 1:09:39
Pace: 8:41

Splits:
8:25
8:36
8:51
9:11
8:28
8:41
8:32
8:49

At almost the 2.75 mile mark I felt a twinge of pain coming on with the Hip Flexor so I stopped cold and stretched a bit. I decided to keep running and stretch it at each mile until it felt better. It did and I finished well.

Tomorrow I have only 4 miles on the schedule. I am looking forward to that!

Have a great night everyone!

:grouphug:

Good morning Meaners!!

I am going to send out a huge hello and a big :grouphug: to everyone cuz I missed another whole day and I know catching up is nearly impossible. I would like to thank all of you who inducted me into the speedydom but I don't think I really qualify. Only on the rare occasion that I run with my SIL, other than that, I don't push myself too hard!! :rolleyes1

I had a short long day yesterday. I took the 3 kids to school (niece, nephew and DS), got groceries, picked up parts for DH, dropped off parts to DH, went home and unloaded groceries, got called to go get MORE parts for DH, picked up those parts and delivered them, rushed home, cleaned house (cleaning lady had a cold and did not come), did laundry, got something out for dinner, rushed out to pick up same 3 kids, walked across parking lot to field hockey practice, waited for SIL to pick up 2 kids, played with DS during practice, drove home, fixed dinner, HAD to go see new pulp trailer, oohed and ahhed over said trailer, went to ice cream shop for treat on the way home, got home, folded and put away laundry and then crashed totally!!!! :faint: I would rather run a marathon!!!

Today I have 5-6 miles at the track during field hockey practice, after my hair appointment and picking up the 3 kidlets again. Tomorrow is 5 more and I should hit my 24-25 miles for this week. Monday starts half training for the Hollis Applefest. I am VERY excited. We have myself, Joanne (GroovyGirls), AmyBeth68, Scott (ScoJo15), Chad (Mickeyhead) and Linda (momof2minnies) all coming to the race!!

Good Mornin' Meaners!!
Maria....WTG on the 7lb loss!!!:yay: :cheer2: :cheer2: :yay:
Stacie...
Amy....Kids are fantastic motivators!
Jeff....Awesome pics!
Kira....Get well soon! And....oh no, the Poly is our favorite, but we decided to stay at WL for the 1/2. What was it that you liked better at the Poly? We've never stayed at WL and thought it would be perfect for our little getaway.
Lisa....Your play by play of the day sounds very familiar to most of my days--minus the tractor:lmao: . DH wonders why a stay at home mom can "crash" into bed at 10:00, but I'm wiped out after those kind of days.
Debra....We miss you!
Everybody else....

Today is rainy, rainy, rainy here! It's TM time for me. Have a great day all.

Good morning Lean Meaners! I have been back (lurking) and very busy here at work. My miss Nancy is back from vacation, and I am very happy about that!!!! :cool1: :cool1:

Okay, Virginia Beach.......well, what I can say is that I finished it. My time was not stellar.....I was very sick with a cold and bad cough. Had a fever when I woke up before the race. I did break the fever with Advil, but I was soaking wet even before the race started. I had a friend with me who was new to running (first race) and I promised to pace her the first three miles (she is way fast though  ) So I ran 10 min miles the first three miles (and stopped breathing around the two mile mark) I got her to 3 miles with good time, and then sent her on her way.

I figured out that the wheels were falling off the bus around mile 5...... This is where I readjusted my thoughts on my race. I was sick, it was EXTREMELY humid, and people were dropping like flies around me.....So I decided that finishing was the only priority.....so I started to take walk breaks. And, on top of it all I had to stop x2 at the porta potty......ugh. It wasn't the greatest experience up to mile 10. At mile 10 I figured out that I should really be finishing the race (2:30) I made a concious effort to start having fun. I became the running party girl......talking to other racers, volunteers, support people, etc.....and I had a blast for the last 3 miles. Have to say it turned out to be one of the most fun races I have ever done. :dance3: :dance3:

My friend finished in a great time of 2:13:44......great race for her with negative splits!!!! (I never checked my time)

I got a medal, had a good time at the B-52 concert that night and I wasn't very sore at all! My cold is slowly getting better, and my 'recovery' run on Tuesday went really well! So, all in all, not too bad!

Lisa: The bands were all from the 80's. Morris Day and the Time were Friday night. Billy Idol was Saturday (he was excellent!) I didn't think I would like him as much as I did! Sunday was the B-52's, and they too were really good! Starship was there as one of the free concerts along the boardwalk. We had a really good time!

Beth

Good morning Lean and Mean buds.

I can't get Yahoo mail to work, I use yahoo as my home page and that works fine but I can't sign in to mail???? Anyone else having that problem.

How is everyone doing?

I taught my first class this morning and it went really well, I only had one student but it's a start.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Hi Lean Meaners,

Beth WTG on the 1/2! I probably would have never gotten out of bed if I was feeling that sick! Glad you are feeling better now!

Dave :yay: for your first class!

Lisa I am tired just reading about your day! :faint:

Everyone  :grouphug:

Got in a walk with DD last night and pilates. I've got C25K scheduled for today, will probably just get on the TM instead of going outside. It's been unseasonably hot here (even for FL) since all of these tropical systems are sucking the air dry, we don't get our daily cool off T-storms.

We've got our eye on Ike here. We wouldn't be getting a direct hit, but these things that cross the state first can be just as bad as a direct hit. Also very worried about our Outerbanks vacation that starts next friday. :scared1: :scared1:

Have a good day everyone!

5.3 miles, 49 minutes.

VERY rainy and slippery...but at least its done, and tomorrow is a rest day.

Kira....Get well soon! And....oh no, the Poly is our favorite, but we decided to stay at WL for the 1/2. What was it that you liked better at the Poly? We've never stayed at WL and thought it would be perfect for our little getaway.

I just loved the convenience of the monorail so much that it's hard to give up! I also am a tropical girl, so I really liked the theme. But I'm pretty enthusiastic about staying at the WL as well, so I'm not unhappy with our choice. It will be our first time in WDW without the kids, so I'm pretty excited about that!

I'm still under the weather so no exercise, but this seems to be good for my weight loss goals - another pound came off!

Beth - What a trooper for doing the Virginia Beach half when you weren't feeling well! I'm glad you were able to have a good time with it in the end. I thought about doing that race, but we already had our plans for WDW.

Dave - Congratulations on your first class!

Hello Lean Mean Endurance Machines!

Enjoy your evening!

Top of the morning Meaners, and I mean that from the top of the early, early morning!!! IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Howard: You continue to amaze me. My SIL is like you, consistent. She is consistent up hills, down hills and on the flat. It makes me ill. LOL. Actually it motivates me more. Keep up the good work! It is obviously paying off..:goodvibes

Kira: Great job on the weight loss, just be sure that it is not due to being dehydrated or not eating enough good food. Sometimes when we are sick we forget our good habits!! :rolleyes1 My allergist once told me that for every 5 times I blew my nose, I needed to drink a glass of water. It really works both for keeping hydrated and for clearing the clog. PD that you feel better soon.

Mike: Rainy and slippery are always fun on a run! Great job working through it. I have Hanna coming for my LR on Sunday...:scared:

Amy: It is unseasonably hot here too. I ran yesterday afternoon and it was 89 degrees. Very abnormal for us on the northern tip of the US at this time of year. Hanna is just driving the heat to us. I will be glad when she blows through, then maybe I can sleep again!!

Dave: Here's hoping that your students multiply once the word gets out. Your class sounds very interesting and I like the cirriculum you set up. I will bet next week, you have more students!! :thumbsup2

Beth:  :wizard: Running sick, now that is dedication. Either that or you have lost your mind...oh wait, that's me. :rolleyes1 Billy Idol is my favorite!! Vital Idol my poor children are scarred believe me.... I cannot wait for next year. No cold though, K...

Tracey: Crash at 10:00, I don't usually make it past 8. I am up at 4 and on the computer "working" (or DISing) at 5 a.m. :sad2:

Debra: :magnify: Come back soon, we miss you. ToT is still a go....right....

Everyone else: :flower3: I know you are all out there lurking, step on up and tell us how your day is going!!!

From the Great North Woods, :faint: Still out straighter than straight. Today is a small reprieve. I probably should not say that out loud hence the roof caving in. I did everything I had on the list yesterday and ran my 5 miles (actually I ran 4 and walked 1 due to the 89 degree heat aforementioned) and then DH called and asked if I would ride the 3 hour round trip to the mill with him last night at 6 p.m. Of course says I, gets kidlets ready for bed and heads out to meet DH. We lost the trailer lights at the mill and had to ride home between 2 trucks for safety purposes. Exciting evening. Did I mention that I get up at 4 a.m. A little on the tired side this morning. Today is 5 miles for me and the heat is still here. I have kidlet pickup but DD is staying for a field hockey game so I don't have to run the track today. My hair looks fabulous again. So, maybe things are looking up for me...

Oh, and I asked my stylist (who also does nails) about my yucky toenail. She said she didn't think there was anything wrong with it beside it was a little too long and stressing in the wrong place. Home I went, trimmed them up shorty short and tossed some polish on them. It looks much better now. The blisters are dried up and being scraped daily so maybe, just maybe, by ToT time, I will have semi-gorgeous feet again. Okay I never had semi-gorgeous feet to begin with...

Have a great day Meaners and if I didn't already mention it (which I did) IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3:

Good morning Meaners! A happy Friday (and finally a day off!)

I actually had a good 4 miler on the dreadmill last night. I felt decent! That's two runs in a row that I didn't feel like crap! Cause to celebrate!:cool1:

Just to let you all know......I am certifiably crazy. I just signed up to run the Philly Distance Run and Toronto and they are back to back weekends.....Yes folks, that means I am running 3 1/2 marathons this month with two of them back to back weekends......send the paddy wagon my way. At this point, I don't think I am worried about time......I just don't want to die!

I am off for a haircut, and I will try to catch up on everyone later!

Beth
