Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Hi AmyK -- I am so sorry you had to see that e-mail, although I guess it was better to see it than not? :confused3 Co-irkers are just evil sometimes, and I totally understand why you almost just walked out. But don't give them the satisfaction -- and give yourself the opportunity to collect unemployment if you can! It's much better to keep your income arriving, and keep working on your plan to get out (unless and until you come to a point where it is completely toxic, in which case you must leave immediately). I have been where you are, so I know how truly awful it is.

Gecko ate more yesterday, and has been hissing and sassy, which the vet considers a good sign. He is getting his spirit back. He is very cautiously optimistic. We're going to check in again tomorrow. Thanks for keeping the prayers and pixie dust coming! He's not out of the woods yet.

I did 2 miles in 26 minutes this morning, which is hauling for me! It felt good, and believe it or not it was almost relaxing. It felt good to just concentrate on moving as fast as I could. I'm looking forward to another short wog tomorrow.

Our last company left at 6 am, and I am psyched! It's great to have visitors, but it does wear on you after awhile...

I had yogurt and a vitamuffin for breakfast, I am off to a great start!
Maria

Amy,

Hakuna Matata. It's Aloha Friday, and a three day weekend. Enjoy your time away from the office, and decompress. Don't let the coirkers get to you.

Hey Lean Meaners! Guess what? I finally got to have lunch! Just thought I would check in quickly!

Amy: What a stupid coirker.......how bright can he be by sending you and email about you???? Tells me something right there! Good for you standing up to him.....he can't really back-pedal to far now, can he?

Maria: Good to hear the cat may be better. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

WWDave: Now you can be our knight in shining armour, and kick some tuckus! :cloud9:

Debra: We miss you!

Lisa: Where have you gone, now? Come back soon!

So, tonight will be packing for VA beach after baseball, and then I have to get up super early to get into work before we leave. What a life!

Hope everyone is well!

Beth

Hope everyone is having a good evening!

Jeff,Maria,Dave,BethThanks for your kind thoughts :grouphug: (and the offer to talk to him :) )! As much as it pained me to do so, I took the high road in this situation. It has opened my eyes though to a side of him I wasn't aware of, which is a good thing. I am sticking to my plan and hopefully all will work out as I hope it will. And he is really dumb for sending that email to me! I expect more work drama tomorrow. popcorn:: popcorn:: (unrelated to this situation)

Had a lovely evening with DD and DH, ,spent some time in the pool and had a couple beers! :drinking1 :drinking1 Life is Good!

Maria Continued :wizard: for Gecko!

I am off the the Dr. in the morning, I fear I may have a staph infection in my elbow! :scared1: :scared1:

Have a good night everyone!

Super fly by from me Meaners. I am in vaca mode (actually just time to myself mode :cloud9: ). Sorry I don't have time to read everyone's posting but thanks for missing me!!

The family has left for Texas and school has started (:woohoo: ) so hopefully things will get back to normalcy soon. I have managed to gain 5 pounds over this ordeal and feel pretty puffy and bloated. My DD13 gained also and I now outweigh her by 2 pounds (of course she has 3 inches in height on me too). It is time to put my nose down and work on getting this weight and the other 5 that I have been holding onto gone. By ToT, I would like to be down then entire 10 pounds. I think my knees and feet would like that too.

I have been experimenting with new socks and have developed massive blisters on the outside of BOTH big toes  so that is just another issue along with my split nail. I did get 13 miles on my bike Wednesday and an 8 mile run in yesterday. Today is 5 and I better get going. I have the house to get in order, kidlet pickup, field hockey practice and I am the driver for the party goers tonight. But....I get to dance off a few pounds too so I won't complain. At least if I am not drinking I stand a chance of losing some!!!

My Nike chip has calved and I have to do something for the Human Race Sunday. I hate to buy a new one as I don't use it since getting my Garmin so I am going to have to read the directions and see if there is another way to record my miles.

Have a super awesome day today Goofs. Hang in there and thanks for the hand back up on the wagon!!! :flower3:

Good morning, all! TGIF!
I had the last open house last night---it was 3 hours long:scared1: I was not expecting that, as usually, they're an hour and a half. So, I'm exhausted and ready for a long weekend. We're heading to the lake. I did get my 8 miler in yesterday, but only because I told you guys I would. Without you, I would've quit around 4;) .

Amy...stretching in the pool with wine sounds wonderful. My neighbors just put in a beautiful salt water pool and she told us to use it yesterday while they were gone. My DS2 and I got in it after that long run and it felt heavenly. Sorry about your work troubles. People can be very rude, good for you for taking the high road, it's not easy in those situations. Good luck at the Dr.'s--I hope all is o.k.
Maria... for Gecko, it sounds like he's feeling better. Yay, for company leaving, I'm sure it feels good to have the house back to yourself. WTG on getting the 2 miles in.:yay:
Beth...have fun at Virginia Beach

I'll be MIA for a few days. Have a lovely Labor Day Weekend.:)

Morning Meaners! Well, it's Friday!!! Yippee!!! :cool1: :cool1: I had to work all night (well, not really all night) to get ready to go to VA beach!!!! Boy, packing, getting the boys to baseball, and a marathon grocery store trip (went before we left, and I saved $50.00 with specials and coupons!) took it out of me. My dh didn't understand why I wanted to go food shopping before we got down there, but I knew I would save alot of money shopping here (double coupons, better specials).

My sore throat has manifested itself as a raging cold.....ugh. I always get sick before a race. And it can't be overtraining!!!! I haven't gotten many miles in lately!!!!

Lisa: Glad to see you back! Don't worry.....the wagon always welcomes us back!

Maria: Still sending PD your way for dear Gecko!

Everyone else......think of me Sunday morning!!!! I hope I finish!

Beth

Good morning guys and pretty princesses.

New WISH phrase: When you tick your princess off and she verbally rips hunks out of you is it called being "Snark Bit". or multiple "Snark Bites".

They didn't get the sign up sheets out for the thursday morning walking instruction class but put them out in the afternoon yesterday, there are already several sign ups. I guess I better get busy getting it prepared.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Not much time, since my BIL and nephew are in town for all THREE days...

Today was 11 miles, 1:44:26, 9:30 mpm average.

Splits were:

1 10:53
2 9:50
3 9:59
4 9:20
5 9:43
6 8:59
7 9:16
8 9:37
9 9:19
10 8:28
11 8:57

So what happened between during miles 10 and 11 you ask? My I-Pod, on random play, came up with the theme song for "The Ultimate Fighter"...which I replayed several times...seemed to motivate me.

Have a wonderful weekend folks!

Mike

Good morning Leaner Meaners!!

Remember me? :yay: :confused3 :yay:

Getting myself fueled up the Nike+ 10K this morning.

Mike – WTG with the 11 miler! Great pace. :thumbsup2

Beth – Take care of yourself.

Tracey – W’sup!?

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa – Hope you have a good run today. If you find where to manually load mileage on the Nike+ site, please let me know. :)

Amy – Take care of that elbow.

Maria – Hope Gecko is doing better. WTG with the 2 miler!

Cindy – Hope you have a great race today. Work has been too much like work. I don’t like that! :rotfl:

Dave – Good luck with the walking class.

All the Leaner Meaners I missed - Keep up the great training!

:)

Hi!

Mike: Great effort on your LR!

I got out this morning and logged the following:

10 Miles in 1:31:16 for an overall pace of 9:07. My splits: 9:07, 9:05, 8:45, 8:42, 9:20, 9:07, 9:10, 9:07, 9:34, and 9:20.

I am happy with my results given my lack of running this past week. The last time I did ANYTHING fitness related was one week ago today.

Have a very happy and enjoyable Sunday and Labor Day tomorrow!

:grouphug:

Howard

Quick run by...

I completed the half in 2:02.17. I just missed my PR by about two minutes. Thunder Matt and I started together, and he blew by me around mile 11 to the finish. I just couldn't match his pace at the end.

I didn't take a lot of photos during the race, just a couple before and after. So there isn't a mile by mile photo essay this year.

All the WISH team had a great time. Some had to rush off soon after the race ended, some heading back home already. Others just wanted to get out of the heat and humidity.

It was overcast and cool for most of the race. About the 3 hour mark, the sun broke through, and made it pretty hot. Unfortunately I did see a few people passed out, and even one lady taken away by ambulance just outside the esplanade near Harbor Blvd.

Had a great time, and I'll be back later with a few photos.

Farewell to all the WISH team, Disneyrunning.com, and Disney Dead members. It was great meeting you all, and please have safe travels back to your homes. Especially those of you who live between Texas and Florida. I hope you're all spared from the hurricane's path.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Jeff:cheer2: :woohoo: on the DL 1/2! Sounds like you had a good time, looking forward to seeing pics!

A pretty quiet weekend here. We have had alot of wind and rain from Gustav, even though it is no where near here. More rain and wind than we had from Fay actually. It is a huge storm and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in its path. :goodvibes

I did have an infection in my elbow, most likely from a seemingly small scrape I got a couple weeks ago. Thanks to some massive horsepill antibiotics, it's almost better!

Got in a really good run last night, about 27 minutes without stopping, a new record for me. Covered about 2.25 miles. With warm up and cool down I did about 3 total. Garmin was a little screwy due to Gustav clouds.

Hope to get in another run tomorrow.

DD really took off walking this weekend! :scared1: :scared1: So glad that I have gotten myself into halfway decent shape! We're shopping for her first pair of real sneakers!

Off to finish my from scratch mojito!

Cheers,
Amy

More later...

Hi Team,

Today is Diet Day for me. I am back to eating healthy or else!! I've managed to gain 5 lbs this summer.

My 1/2 marathon was a bit disappointing yesterday. It started off well. It was a beautiful day and the course was gorgeous. At one point we ran thru the woods on a rail trail. We crossed 4 covered bridges. It was great. I felt OK thru about 10 miles. I was running at a 8:43 pace. Which was a little slower than I had hoped I was capable of, but I felt pretty good. At about 10 1/2 miles the wheels came off. I got a really bad side stitch which slowed me right down. I tried to convince myself that my legs weren't connected to my abs, so I could still move my legs, but I just couldn't speed up. I just shuffled along for 2 miles until the pain went away then was able to push the last 3/4 mile to the finish. My time was 1:57:36. I was really hoping to be about 7 minutes faster than that. I worry that it means that I'm not in as good shape as I thought I was and that my marathon will not go as well as I hope in October. I've been down in the dumps about it. I guess I need to move on. My DS6 told me "Mom, just stop thinking about it". I guess I was talking about my disappointment a bit too much. Here's a picture of the bridge we went over at mile 10. I went back to take the picture after the race.

Amy: Congrats on your 27 minutes without stopping. Hope your elbow heals well. Congrats on DD walking!! Sorry your work situation has gotten so bad. Good for you for taking the high road.

Jeff: Congrats on your race. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. Have a safe trip home.

Howard: Good job on your run.

Mike: Great run. Amazing how a good song can get you going. Thanks for the link for the Tri Training. I bookmarked it for later use.

Vic: Hope the Nike+ 10K went well. Hope work gets better.

Beth: Hope VA Beach went well.

Tracey: Good job getting your 8 miler in. Extra points for doing it on the TM. Hope your weekend at the lake was great.

Lisa: Hope you get back to a normal routine soon. Sorry about the blisters and the split toe nail. Ouch!! Your knees and feet will definitely thank you for dropping 10 lbs. Good luck with that.

Dave: Great news that you've already had a few people sign up for the walking class. Good luck getting your program planned.

Maria: Continued good WISHes for Gecko. Good luck getting back to a routine now that all your family is gone.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Hi Guys,

I will get back to posting regularly after the 10th, I promise. I had my fresh start today, getting back to my double dippin' on the workouts and eating better.

I lost 7 lbs. last month, so the double dippin' was working. I didn't do it much past the 16th, so I'm going to try to keep it going for the whole month this time. Not having company will help tremendously, as will the normal workload I should be down to soon.

Sigh. We lost Gecko kitty. :sad1: He passed naturally, so we know it was his time. I've been half grieving for the last week, so I've accepted it and I know it's better that he's not in any pain or suffering. I won't go into all the details, but we had hope and it was dashed. We had the presence of mind to realize we should not bring him home in the state he was in, and that was a blessing. My ds did not have to see him pass, his last memory of Gecko is of a sick kitty, but it's a live kitty that he was able to pet and say goodbye to.

Anyway, I'm not going to dwell on it too much. DH thinks I'm crazy, but I half think his ghost is hanging around with us, laying in the places he loved. I certainly see him almost everywhere I look.

I have decided that I'm not going to count my weight too much other than the once a month for awhile. I get too upset with daily fluctuations, and I can see a real change if I look at it a month at a time. 7 more lbs in Sept., and I will be feeling much better about myself, so that's my goal. I know it's a big one, but why not shoot for the stars?! :yay:

Cindy -- I'm sorry your Half didn't turn out as you had hoped. I'm glad you were able to regroup and finish, though...

Jeff -- Love, love, love the photos! What a great group! :thumbsup2

AmyK -- Glad to hear you found out what was wrong with your elbow and have medicated appropriately...Hopefully you'll be good as new before you know it! :goodvibes

Mike -- It sounds like you also had a wonderful time at the Half! :cool1:

Howard -- I know you were glad to be back running again! :woohoo:

Vic -- As if we could forget our training guru! You always encourage us, whatever level we are at! :flower3:

Dave -- I hope the planning for your class is coming along nicely! :cool2:

Beth -- How was your race? I know you did great, even with feeling not so wonderful!

Tracey -- Ok, now you're scaring me. We have a new parent orientation for DS's new school Thursday at 8:15 am, and the Half Day is over at 11:30...I really hope they are not going to keep us there for 3 hours!

Lisa -- I hope your race was awesome! It feels good to get back into a routine, doesn't it? I am looking forward to the 8th, when ds is back in school for full days and our schedule will be much more predictable (i.e. no more company!). ;)

Shout out to Bill, Wendy, Connie, Debra, Stacey, Jeanne, Julie, and Lurkers! :surfweb:

Maria

Good morning Meaners!! I feel like I have missed so much. Here's hoping things get back to semi-normalcy soon!

Vic: Hey man, nice to see ya back with us. I have sent an email to Nike due to my buying a second sensor and it not working either. I did the Human Race but added on for 9.5 miles. They can take them or not I guess. I will let you know the results.

Jeff: Congrats on the DL Half.

Maria: :woohoo: 7 pounds:woohoo:

Cindy: Disappointed with a sub-2 half??? I would be ecstatic with a sub-2. I feel your pain on the side stitch thing. Now you have to work on finding out what caused it and how to work through it. I did it after Great Bay and my runs are MUCH better now!

Amy: Mojitos are my specialty of the house! Ouch on the elbow infection. I hope it is better! Yay for DD walking. It makes me feel great when my kids are actually interested in something I do! Also, kudos on your 27 minutes. I remember when I just wanted to go a half mile. Remember those days?? Oh how far we have come!!

Howard: No workout in a week and you still run 9 mpm. And you wonder why we all :worship: you!!! Keep up the rockin runs!!

Dave: Snark bit....:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Now who would EVER snark a Panda???

Connie: How is the shoulder?

Everyone else:  I have missed you all so much!!

From the Great North Woods...I did the Nike Human Race as stated, but made it to 9.5 miles. The last 1.5 miles was battling some stomach thing that took the rest of the day and part of yesterday to get over. I walked. I race walked and was able to maintain between a 13-14 mpm pace which I thought was pretty good for an amateur. My shins really hurt...and they still do. I ran yesterday to the parade in town with my SIL, 4 miles in 37 minutes. :scared1: :scared1: I know, it scared me too when I looked at my Garmin. Funny how having someone with you, talking along and not paying attention to how you are breathing, foot striking, etcetera can just pick up the pace. We got to the parade in time to see our DS's in the rumble seat of a 31 Packard (my DS waving like a pagent queen :sad2: ) and my DH and DD in my dad's 31 Model A going by. It was a really great parade for my little town. One of the biggest we have had. DH and I took the A home and got my car and went back to the frog races. They have them yearly. It is quite a hoot!!!! All was good until a rogue frog jumped in my DS lap and then we had to go...:lmao: I have managed to drop 2 of my pounds which I actually think was due to dehydration more than anything else. Today is 5 miles. My blisters are soaked, scraped, filled with Neo and bandaged up. We will see what today brings....:scared:

Have the best of best days Meaners!!!! :flower3:

Good mornin'.
Beth....Hope Virginia Beach was fun and the race went well.
Panda...Was "snark bit" a hypothetical question or did you get chewed up a little bit last week?:lmao:
Mike....Wow! What a difference a song makes.
Vic....We always remember you. Welcome back.
Howard...no workouts for a week and you're still a speed demon.
Jeff....sorry you missed your PR, but that was still an amazing time. Cute pics, looks like you have a fun group.
Amy....WTG on those 27 min, how far we've all come! Another year or so and your little one could be a running partner. Now the chase begins! Take care of that elbow.
Cindy...beautiful pic! I know you didn't get the time you wanted, but like I told Jeff, that's still an amazing time. You are one speedy chick.
Maria... so sorry about Gecko. I know that your family is feeling so much sadness about his loss. We'll be thinking about you. Have no worries about Open House, I've never been to one that long. I think it was just a high school thing.
Lisa...sounds like the parade was fun and I would love to see a frog race. What happened when it jumped in your sons lap? look at you speedy girl....4 miles in 37 min.:worship:

We went to the lake and I ran my 3 miles on Sat. and then met up with a friend and power walked another 1 1/2. On Monday, I went out to do another 3 and halfway through ran back to the house to recruit my boys to run the rest with me---I needed motivation. They were exactly what I needed:love: ! It makes a huge difference when you have someone to talk to. This week is back to crazy busy! It sure doesn't help that my allergies are making my head feel like a giant balloon filled with water. Ugh!
Have a great day and stay strong.
