Aloha Jeff: Ouch, those lashings hurt (wet noodles hurt almost as much as paper cuts
)! In my defense, I did mingle and make small talk. I said the appropriate things. But I didn't enjoy the show, and so such conversations feel strained from my perspective. The stuffing my mouth was just an added discomfort. Not good at the polite lies that make social conversations palatable, I guess.
I hope your PF feels better today. I would imagine it's somewhat frustrating to take time off, made maybe a little better since Les can't run either. NO fried catfish. That's not good for you, even if it's good eating and you "run to eat."
(DOOD loves fried catfish and would probably tell you to live it up.)
AmyK: I seldom find work fun--even if it's sometimes challenging or satisfying, so you have my sympathies. I guess most of us "work to play," don't we? WTG on your longer-than-anticipated walk. You've also reminded me to do Pilates tonight--I don't know if I should thank you for that, though.
I feel pretty much the same way as you do about August goals. I blew July, so I want a do-over.
Ah, so you have to alternate movie-going nights sometimes because of DD. That explains it. I really liked The Dark Night, and didn't check my watch once (which is how I judge movies, instead of a thumbs-up/down or star rating). But it was long, and actually felt like it could have been two movies with more developed stories for the Joker and Harvey Dent characters. I also think it's a good idea to rewatch Batman Begins before seeing The Dark Knight; both are stand-alone movies, but I think you can see Chris Nolan's vision for Batman if you see the two films close together. I ended up liking Batman Begins (I was lukewarm on it) better AFTER having seen The Dark Knight. Nolan's best film, IMO, remains Memento.
You're making me really look forward to reading Twilight. I did a similar thing with Harry Potter--waited until book 6 was released before starting (because I thought there was only going to be 6 books--doh!). And I love midnight releases. Crowds of eager readers really make me happy.
Howard: I remain impressed with your weight-loss and lean, meanness accomplishments. I know I need to avoid ice cream, Scotch, and take-out, but haven't shown the willpower to do so recently. Maybe I need to work more on the other end and hope the eating follows. Not very balanced, but I'll go for effective at this point. Enduring your runs? It sounds like you're enjoying them, too! And 31 miles + XT. That's effective! You'll be happy to know that I've signed up for an account with my virtual-cycle machines (they're called Espresso machines here). I just can't let those virtual riders continue to beat me.
Stacie: I didn't mean to make you feel like you should hang your head.
Really, it was just meant to encourage you. We all go through those times where other things tend to take over. And I know you have lots of things on your plate. You really like your aquacise--have you done that in a while? I think you should come with me to my next gathering and help me in the supporting actress category. Better yet, you could be my body double!
How do you feel about making academic small-talk at an English department gathering as the significant other?
Dave: I so admire you for making those big changes to your life to improve the quality for you (and Erica). That's such a big decision--to earn less money--and one our culture doesn't tend to validate. No pressure on you to post more, as I know how busy you are. Just know the pretty princesses miss their perky panda!
Jeanne: Awww, we love you too! Randy Pausch was an incredible human being, and the more I learned about him (a local guy), the more impressed I was. It makes me want to write my own "Last Lecture" (university tradition, but one we could all practice I think). If anyone would like to see him speak, here's a YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo
Mike: Ugh, your running sounds like it was under tough summer conditions. WTG on getting it done! I hope you're feeling fine, otherwise.
Hi to all our other Lean Meaners out there!
As for me: 5 miles today. Salad for lunch, which was an easy decision given how humid it is. Loss of appetite, you know. We're sleeping in our living room again, on our futon, as that's where the air-conditioning unit is. Does anyone here remember sleep porches?
