I have being thinking of becoming a travel agent in the GTA.

I currently don't have any experience in the travel industry, but it is something I would love to pursue.

Does anyone out there have any advice for courses, training programs, etc?

apparently the cruise ship centres don't require any college education to get started. That way you can gain experience. I know some people who have done this for a few years and then started their own company. I have thought about doing the same thing, but it is a lot of work to get started.

Seneca College has a part time program for Travel and Tourism.

I have a TA diploma from Seneca. I looked at Cruise Ship Centre for when I was finished, they wanted me to work for a year for free, but they would pay for my CLIA training, worth less then what I make in 1 month as a retail buyer. There are lots of courses and certifications for selling travel, here are some that I have bookmarked;

and workshops for earning points, http://yourworkshops.ca/travel/index.php?pxid=150001

Happy learning and planning.

Humber College also has a travel and tourism program both during the day and in the evening. If you are going to work for Expedia Cruiseshipcenters, it is fine as a side job or a hobby. Very, very few people make enough to make a living at it. You will also need to have a huge range of family and friends to sell to and be able to network out there to find clients.
Most travel agencies are commission based.

Even if you find a job selling Disney for someone without education for travel you MUST write the TICO travel agent exam. All people who sell travel in Ontario are required to write this exam or you can be fined/charged. Tico protects travellers who book holidays.
Go to their website and look it up but it's only 35.00 to write the exam and if you study the booklet it's not hard to do.
