Beauty & The Beast @ MGM

We loved BaTB! one of our favorite shows! :goodvibes

but we kinda of funny tastes, what is great is that WDW has something for all of us!!!!! :)

Perhaps we should skip this one...sounds like my DS7 would be bored. I had to reply to your message, anyone with "Worf" in their screen name is o.k. by me!

p.s. My Worf is a cat....

I have been to the BatB show a few times. I like it,but don't love it. It's been a number of years since I have seen it, but will probably see it again our next trip in December. Everyone has different tastes as is evident by the different opinions posted.

I did love the Hunchback show and miss it. I guess it's the theme of unrequited love that I could relate to.....

My family loves the show. We taped it a few trips back and I have watched that show daily for the past 2 months leading up to my last trip, and repeated since then. (my just turned 2yo LOVES it) I wouldn't miss seeing it on any trip. Of course it could be a princess thing with my family ;)

Hi Worfiedoodles if you haven't already guessed my Worfy is a dog! I assume you or someone in your household is a ST fan?

Maybe you should try the show though. Opinions in this thread seem to be very divided probably about 60/40 pro BatB!

Paul.

I'v never seen the Hunchback show but my husband and I enjoyed Beauty and the Beast. I felt they did the best they could in the short amount of time given for the show.

Oh my gosh, we loved BatB! It was my favorite attraction at MGM. We had so much fun watching it, the singing, the costumes were beautiful and my two boys loved it as well!

I guess everyone likes different things, but wow we loved the show, and I am so glad I talked our party into seeing it. It ended up being a highlight to our trip.

I'm a Hunchback fan myself. We only catch BaTB when we have new folks with us.

Carol

Why did they stop using the doves at the end? :confused3 I can take or leave the show, but honestly we all got goosebumps when the birds would fly out! :cloud9:
This puzzles me. Does anyone know?

I really didn't like this show. We were pretty deflated, too, but I did think the Broadway version was great.

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie ever - not just Disney movie, favorite movie period (And, yeah, I'm a guy, but I'm a die-hard Disney junkie and I love this film). Hunchback of Notre Dame is my second favorite Disney movie ever (love the darkness of it).

That being said, I can't stand the MGM BATB show - just too childish for me. Can't hold a candle to the movie or the Broadway show. We go see it with my little cousins, but not if they're not with us. The Hunchback show, though, I loved because of the interesting setting and staging + the live singing by all the leads. I'll miss Hunchback, but BATB is one that I could do without.

That being said, I realize that it's a 'good' show for kids and my cousins love it, but I could do without it.

OUt of all the shows at MGM, this is the one that I have started skipping as well. I have seen it enough times that I know all the miscues before they happen. I wish they would update this show soon, one way or anohter.

18 day dance :cool1:  :cool1:  :cheer2:

We Love this show. If you are reading this thread and have never seen it please give it a try. We saw Beauty and the Beast on Broadway when Toni Braxton was playing Belle. Of course this cannot compete with a Broadway show, but I think it is very well done.

Alright.. as you can tell from my USERNAME, I am a DIEHARD BATB FAN!! It's my favorite movie EVERRRR and I have a collection and so on and so forth..

To the MGM Production.. I always see it each time mostly for something to do. I love BATB and have seen performances of the broadway caliber and this in no way can compare. We finally got around front row seats and it was CLEAR TO ME that they were LIP SYNCing (the extras... not belle or gaston).. so I don't know about you who are saying they aren't.

It really isn't that great.. I mean, it's alright.. I just love taking pictures of it.

I think that part where they say " for certain circumstances" Belle ends up in the castle or whatever is hilarious.

All I can say is that it used to be sooo much better! They have slowly chopped away at the show and it is just a hallow shell of what it once was. Such a shame too. We liked Hunchback very much and we really used to like BatB, now we go if we are on an extended vacation and have the extrra time otherwise we just skip it.

well.... It seems some hawks got used to the shows schedule and started "intercepting" them mid flight to the horror of small children and adults in the audience. So they moved the doves to the Animal Kingdom(the few that were still alive.) That is the story I was told.
I liked the BAB show(doesn't compare to the Broadway show obviously- neither does the lion king show in AK by the way) but once was enough for our family.

Quite honestly I have seen BatB several times now and can take it or leave it (although I loved the movie). However I couldn't visit WDW without seeing the show and all because of the a cappella guys, "4 for a Dollar" who do the warm up. They are GRRRRREAT! I recommend their CD available in the shop outside too - I play it in the car all the time. :)

I started to answer this yesterday, but then I couldn't remember where I had read about it, and I didn't want to start an urban myth if it wasn't true. While I was at the library today, I looked again at the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (which I had borrowed and returned after renewing it as many times as possible  .) Anyway, the 2005 edition has blocks of comments throughout, titled, "A Peek Behind the Scenes with Jim Hill". Here's what he wrote about Beauty and the Beast:
Is Dove on the Menu Tonight?
The end of the Beauty and the Beast show used to feature the dramatic release of an entire flock of white doves. The trained birds would fly out over the audience, circle the theater for a moment, then head back to their coop behind the Magic Kingdom. After a while, indigenous hawks got wise to this ritual and began hanging around the theater waiting to snag a snack as each performance show came to a close. Eventually, the stage staff took pity on the poor doves and removed the birds from the menu...., er, the finale of the show.
So, it's kind of a bad news/good news story. We don't get to see the doves in the finale anymore, but the doves don't get picked off by the hawks - (which would have been a traumatizing sight to me! Glad I never witnessed it.)

I love the music and songs from Beauty and the Beast so I'd probably give even an elementary school production of it a thumbs up.:) That being said, there is something about the lighting in that theatre that bugs me. I remember it being all pinkish and yellowish the 2 times I've seen it. Still, I love the costumes, dancing and singing.

I am glad to see alot of positive reviews. My DD6 and I were disapointed tht we did not get to see it.It is on our "must do"list when we return. :wave2:
