The other day at a local thrift store I found a Beauty and the Beast Nesting Doll set... (see picture)...
I don't know a whole lot about this doll and thought perhaps someone else has something similar. The writing on the bottom is Russian...

I'm not sure whether someone hand painted this or it could have been sold in Disney? The drawing/painting looks professional Disney, but again since it has Russian writing on the bottom, I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure 1994 means that it was made in 1994 (Around the time the movie came out).

If anybody can translate the Russian to English, that would be great... and also if you could tell me anything else about this Nesting Doll set.

It basically says “darling nesting doll”, someone’s name, and then Moscow 1994, so from that and the appearance of the characters, I think it’s homemade.

I have a Fab Five set (Mickey, Pluto, Donald, Goofy and a tiny duckling) that I bought at out State Fair maybe 8ish years ago. The whole booth was Russian nesting dolls. Lots of them were Disney themed. All of them were marked Russian. I'm positive that they are not licensed by Disney, but I've always loved Russian nesting dolls. The art style on yours looks very similar to mine. I can take pictures tomorrow if you want.

That would be awesome. :)

I have a set of Disney nesting dolls I bought on an Alaskan cruise. It says Disney (and made in China).

Things may have changed, but there were many unlicensed products that were made in Russia. If you take a good look at the artwork on the dolls it's close, but it's not authentic.

The booth where I bought mine had tons of different styles. Some traditional nesting dolls, some Disney characters, some non-Disney cartoon characters. They all looked hand painted, but at the same time they were all massed produced.

Uh... that's what I said. Geez, look at mine! You can tell it's NOT authentic.
