Bear Hugs & Piggy Kisses - Baby's 1st Trip ~ Updated 12/6: Aulani TR Started!!!

Great photos!! And your outfits looked fantastic together :)
I especially love the solo ones of Izzy on the lawn chair :) super cute!!

And lol at the crying baby photos. That's how Caden's 2 yr photos went. You can't tell that he was screaming and crying in between shots. But that photographer got him laughing right before she'd snap each photo. I used to work at the studio and I was still seriously impressed!

I have to admit, this was not one of my finer moments. I was SOOOO upset with him at that point. :furious: Why had he not wondered why I was gone so long? What did he think I was doing? Did he think I was taking care of Izzy and also bringing up food for him? Why wasn’t he helping with anything? Why did he expect me to do everything while he just sat and relaxed? When I got up to his table, some version of all that came out. I think I might have gotten some attention from nearby tables for laying into him (quietly, but still). I really didn’t care, though. Looking back now, 6 months later, it seems kind-of silly. But, as any mom who has felt like they were on baby-duty 24/7 can tell you, that sort of thing will really grate on your nerves – seeing the other parent enjoying some alone time and just assuming that you will do all the work. :sad2:

Can I just say that I loved reading this and actually had my husband read this part? He just doesn't get how so many of these questions can be going through our heads and get me steamed up sometimes. I too feel a little silly afterwards, but hey :snooty: what can I say - I am who I am.

BTW - May I ask where you got the bib that goes all around her top? Our baby just started on solids and we are finding the regular bibs to be lacking in coverage when she eats finger foods.

Well I am on summer vacation now so I finally have time to catch up on your report again. Lots of reading to do and I am looking forward to it!

Love the pics, definitely worth it!
Thanks, absolutely worthwhile! :thumbsup2

Yup...another vote for "you're allowed to have mommy meltdowns...when daddy is having a duh moment!" I wouldn't have cared who heard me either! But I'm glad you were able to put it all behind you, because you got some GREAT family photos!!!
Thanks on the meltdown thing! Yeah, we were able to forget it pretty quickly what with the monorail being down and rushing around.

wow - those pictures came out great and it sounds totally worth it given that you get all the pictures electronically!

I love the one of Izzy pointing to the castle!

Also nice that you were able to get some of just the two of you.

:goodvibes
Thanks! The pointing to the castle is pretty cute. And it was nice to have some shots of just us, as that hasn't happened much since Izzy.

oh, BTW - We had gotten a family picture in front of the Poly Ceremonial Hall Waterfall last trip (just a regular photo) but I feel the same way that knowing the waterfall is now gone that picture means that much more. Glad you were able to get your pictures there since the Poly means so much to you
I remember that one - really nice family picture with a beautiful background! I'm holding out hope that the new lobby will be nice, but the plans I've seen haven't impressed me. Loved the waterfall and ambiance of that area.

Love the photo shoot! Izzy pointing at the castle is so darling!

What a great idea! I will have to remember this for future trips :)
Thanks, it went really well and she was being really cute on those solo shots. Yes, keep it in mind - I'm sure you could get some adorable shots of the girls! I think I saw that they are now doing sessions at Art of Animation, by the way (since you'll be nearby...)

That photo of you holding Izzy up on the beach is fantastic! Definitely my favorite. It's great that you were able to capture a quick little moment of mom with daughter. :goodvibes
Thanks, it is pretty neat to see her little giggles captured. :)

I'm so glad to hear the photo session was such a success. I have to say, 150 dollars for 45 minutes (I know that time wasn't guranteed) and copies to all the photos electronically is a fantastic deal. I've done a few photo sessions, and I'd kill for that price.:rotfl2: Makes me really regret not doing something like this in May.
And to have a seasoned photographer that knew to bring a noise toy and had the perfect locations already in mind is worth the price, as well.
Yes, it was a great value. Not to mention that I paid for it all with WDW Gift Cards that I'd purchased at a discount from Target. :cool2: We are really lucky that we found a mom friend that also does great family photo shoots, so we've had Izzy's 1 year and 18 month photos taken by her for about the same price and all shots electronically (and she's spent a ton of time with us). But, otherwise, getting family photos can be CRAZY expensive!

Oh, poor Izzy, not being a fan of the sand. Hasn't she since changed her opinion? Since your Oregon trip? Right? Or am I just completely forgetting everything. :rotfl2:
I hope she has, though. I'm pretty sure that'd be a deal breaker with Landon and a potential friendship. :lmao: Landon cries when I make him leave the beach.
She seems to have warmed up to sand. But, yeah, her first experience was not what I expected. She wanted out of it immediately! :rotfl2: She did well on the beach in Oregon and I know that she LOVES playing with the sand table at daycare. Otherwise, she hasn't really had a lot of experience with it. I'm sure Landon could teach her to love it! :goodvibes

And, I am glad you guys got some shots in front of the waterfall. The Poly looks so strange without it now, so it was good to have that last time at the resort with it there memorialized. I can already picture the conversation with Izzy ten years down the road.
"This was back in the day, Izzy, when the Poly had a waterfall."
"The Poly had a big waterfall?!"
"It did! And plants and rocks. Those were the days." :rotfl2::rotfl:
Good thing we have photographic evidence or she will never believe it! :rotfl: Or that the bungalows didn't exist and Tokelau was a regular non-DVC building.

The photoshoot photos turned out wonderfully! No wonder you had a hard time choosing, they are all great photos. And that's not a bad price for 45 minutes. I'm so disappointed that they are removing the water feature from the Poly, so it was really perfect for y'all that you were able to do the shoot before they took it out.
Thank you! I was amazed at how many pictures she got and how many were keepers. Especially with a squirmy and distracted toddler. I'm glad we got the water feature too - kinda wish we had more with it. We were antsy to get outside, but thankfully she insisted on taking some indoors first.

What a wonderful photo shoot you had! Izzy is just adorable! And I loved the card you chose for your Christmas Card!
Thanks so much! I really like that picture too - just captures the Poly so well!

Great photos!! And your outfits looked fantastic together :)
I especially love the solo ones of Izzy on the lawn chair :) super cute!!
Ha, thanks! We kinda threw together our outfits at the last minute while packing and hoped they'd all go together okay, so I'm glad you think so. Those solo pictures of Izzy turned out so cute! She was really enjoying sitting in her own chair, I think!

And lol at the crying baby photos. That's how Caden's 2 yr photos went. You can't tell that he was screaming and crying in between shots. But that photographer got him laughing right before she'd snap each photo. I used to work at the studio and I was still seriously impressed!
I think I remember you posting about that! :rotfl: If you catch a cry just right, it can look like a laugh. ;) Glad she did such a good job with him!

Can I just say that I loved reading this and actually had my husband read this part? He just doesn't get how so many of these questions can be going through our heads and get me steamed up sometimes. I too feel a little silly afterwards, but hey :snooty: what can I say - I am who I am.
Hey, glad to help! :goodvibes I was actually thinking about this today and I feel like this update has elicited the most reaction from people of anything I've posted, other than Izzy's birth announcement. I didn't realize I was striking such a chord with so many people. I was kinda feeling like maybe I was the only one with a DH that does such things, but now I feel like he's pretty "normal" from these responses. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, though - I hate to think of lots of us feeling this way. :sad1: It's really tough to be stuck with all those questions and the frustration that builds from them.

BTW - May I ask where you got the bib that goes all around her top? Our baby just started on solids and we are finding the regular bibs to be lacking in coverage when she eats finger foods.
Absolutely, you may ask. All the bibs we have are the Bumkins brand. We started with the regular ones, which I got at Target. I think we have 6 of those and do still use them, generally when we're eating things that aren't too messy. The one in the pics from CHH is one of the "Junior" Bumkins bibs and we had gotten two of those off Amazon, at the suggestion of someone here (I think it was AprilRenee). They are great for slightly messier meals. We also ordered a long-sleeved one from Amazon. It is nice when she is wearing something with sleeves that can't be rolled up, but I don't like that it is a tie vs. velcro closure. It keeps her clean, though! All of them have pockets to catch food and are easy to wipe clean or wash. We really like them and use them all regularly!

ETA - Ack! I just looked them up to make sure I spelled the name right (I did) and discovered that Target (or at least target.com) now carries a whole bunch of Disney-print ones! I want ALL the bibs, ha! Looks like they are only the regular and long-sleeved, though - I don't see the Junior size there. At any rate, Disney bibs!!

Yay, summer vacation! :cool1: Enjoy all your DIS-reading! :goodvibes

Yep! It was me :) and Oh my goodness!! Caden only uses his for pbj (he prefers it open face *facepalm*) and spaghetti but I think he may need a Disney bib!! Ours is kinda old and gross. Maybe we need a new one. Lol

Just found the Jr ones with Disney on Amazon! Ordered all of them (plus some Dr Suess ones). Hope she likes them :)

Super cute pictures by the way. I love the Poly for pictures - so many different areas for changes to the background. Your photographer did a good job of avoiding the construction too.

You need a new one (or more...) just to prepare for your trip! He'll need something thematically appropriate for WDW meals! ;) Especially if he gets his hands on any PB&J or spaghetti there. :rotfl:

Yay! That is awesome! I wish they had the Disney ones back when I was getting mine. Love them. :lovestruc

Thank you! It really is a great place for photos...and she did a great job of avoiding the construction. I think it would be harder now, but it wasn't super far along at that point, at least.

We left off in the lobby (ah, the Poly lobby!), transferring the digital copies of all 88 photos from Amanda to us. Izzy enjoyed playing with the table:

Our original plans for this evening had us going to dinner at Boma in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. However, I had been uneasy about how this fit into our plans since I’d made the ADR. I really love Boma and AKL, but it would take some awkward Disney transportation connections to do it. And, by this time in the day, after having found the monorail closed, we didn’t know that we wanted to attempt that journey.

I believe, while Dug was wrapping things up with Amanda, I took Izzy over to the concierge desk to check on the monorail situation. I think there was some confusion and two different cast members were trying to check into it. In the end, they decided it was still closed. :sad2: Given how that would make it more of a pain to get to our ADR, we decided to see if we could stay in and switch to Kona instead. The CM helping me was super nice and was able to get us a spot. It wasn’t quite as soon as we’d hoped, but it would work, so we made the change.

After that, we headed back to the room for a bit, where Izzy enjoyed playing with the pillow on the bed:

She was being a silly girl! Here’s a brief video clip too:

(click to watch)

Since we had a little bit of time to spare before dinner, we decided that this was our chance to go swimming. It was dark by then and a bit chilly, but we figured it wouldn’t be too bad for a short swim.

We got Izzy into her Minnie swimsuit and cover-up:

Then we headed down to the volcano pool. We tried to enjoy it, but it was really chilly, even in the water. Poor Izzy looked pretty miserable (and she had enjoyed swimming lessons). We stuck it out for a bit, though, hoping we’d warm up. I think Dug went down the slide, but I had no interest in going out in the cold air to run up those stairs. We sat on the side, where the water comes bubbling up, a bit like a jacuzzi (just a bit). Some kid (with his dad nearby) kept getting in our way, though. He was moving along the side and we basically had to get up and let him by. In general, he was hanging around us. His dad did tell him to give us some space, but it really wasn’t working. I remember the boy chatting with me for a while. Don’t recall what about. We moved around the pool a bit more, then decided to get out and run in and warm up. Such a cold walk back to the room! :cold:

After getting changed, we headed back to the Great Ceremonial House for dinner. Izzy and I waited for our table while Dug headed down to the concierge desk to pay down our account balance with our stash of Disney Gift Cards. I told him to make sure to get the nice CM I’d had earlier and he did. So, while they were running a stack of gift cards, Izzy and I were roaming upstairs. I think we saw that the monorail was operating again. Oh, well, Kona would be a great dinner and Boma would have to wait for another trip. I took a picture of this hot chocolate set in the gift shop to show Dug as a gift idea for his boss (which he later got for her):

Soon, our buzzer went off and we returned to the podium. Izzy was excited to show them the buzzing toy. :rotfl: She handed it in and we were seated. Dug soon joined us.

Looks like Izzy started with some coloring and some munchies:

And we started with the amazing bread:

Dug had a Kona beer:

Since he hadn’t made it to the Kona Island Sushi Bar yet and Kona had sushi, Dug checked out that menu:

Izzy enjoyed a food pouch:

And from the other angle :rotfl2: :

At some point, while we were waiting (probably after we ordered), I ran over to the store to grab another bottle of milk for Izzy, since we were low. Convenient to just run to the store across the hall during dinner!

For my meal, I had the Pan Asian Noodles with chicken:

Yummy! I’m sure I shared them with Izzy too.

Not surprisingly, Dug had some sushi:

We enjoyed our meal. After she finished, Izzy bonded with her Bullseye Mickey:

And, again, the other angle (and you can see the bottle of milk I bought):

After dinner, I think we just headed back to the room and all went to bed. Super exciting, I know. We had daydreams, prior to the trip, of putting Izzy to bed, then heading out to the patio to relax for a bit. But, once we were there, the bed seemed way more tempting than the patio. Go figure. Guess we were all getting worn out.

Up next: We actually use the patio! A visit to Downtown Disney. Pizza for breakfast! And a non-DIS-meet.

Woah! You...RELAXED??? On a Disney vacation? What kind of diser are you??? Lol
I'm kinda jealous. Looks like a nice evening.
We've totally done the "it's cold but these pool jets are just slightly warmer than the rest of the pool" dance before. We've only ever gone once with warm weather and the other two times we think we want to swim til we get in and freeze lol.

Since you were switching dinner reservations, not canceling, did they not charge you for that 25 hour cancellation fee they have? I have thought about moving restaurants before, but I just didn't know if that qualified as a cancellation.

Sounds like the pool was chilly! It was December, after all. And while the pools might be heated, the wind is not. :rotfl2: but at least you can say you tried.

I love the fact that you can buy milk in all gift shops/food locations at the resorts. So convenient.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean about preferring sleep to relaxation. Any parents does. While the balcony sounds nice, sleep sounds even nicer. :lmao:

I agree with this DH description! Maybe this is why neither of us is in a big hurry to have a second kid! :goodvibes Nice to know I'm not alone with feeling like I'm pulling more than my fair share sometimes.

:thumbsup2 Yep! DH and I were talking yesterday about the idea of another kid, because he really wants one and I told him if we did, we'd have to have some changes in regards to household work, baby duty, etc. He very much wants me to breastfeed again (which of course I do too!) But with DS being attached to me, I can't see how that would work, unless I get some major help from DH. Of course, he may not be like that years from now, but just thinking about all the work with DS in addition to another baby just seems like a lot. Especially when us women, feel like we're doing the majority of it all. But I see a lot of families with more than 1 child and I start thinking, it really can't be as bad as i'm making it out in my head. As long as there can be some balance in our household, I think we can do it.

Mmmm, both good choices! Have you never been to either? :scared1: Really depends what type of food you're in the mood for. If you want some fish or broccoli, CHH. If you want a burger or taco salad, Pecos Bill.

Can you believe i've never been to either?! Very bad. DS is on a HUGE fish kick right now (no beef, very little chicken) so right now CHH sounds like the better call.

Oh my goodness. Your Poly pictures are absolutely beautiful!:cloud9: I have a few favs. I love the one of you holding Izzy in the air with the castle in the background and the one where Izzy is pointing to the castle. So precious! And it totally doesn't look like Izzy is upset when Dug is holding her. You could have said nothing about her crying and I would have believed that she was having a grand time! Wish I would have thought to do a photoshoot with DS's first time.

Good call on changing your dinner plans. Doesn't the idea of traveling from one place to the other sounds tiring? That's where i'm at right now. I just got done making our ADR's yesterday, and i'm looking at our plans trying to figure out how we're going to get from this place to this place already, and seeing if my ADR times are good, etc..

man, I feel like I have to stand up for the husbands again :rotfl:

As someone two kids and a third on the way I can first say that going from 1 to 2 was a big change - actually more than I thought it would be (everything I have heard is going from 2 to 3 isn't a big deal .... we'll see) ... BUT you figure it out. You figured out how to go from 0 to 1 you will figure out how to handle 2.

As far as sharing the workload, you have to figure out what works. I do most of the cooking at our house and often do dishes and help carry laundry (plus typical "guy" jobs like taking out the garbage, etc.). Also, I get up early with the kids and feed them breakfast and stuff - but then get a "break" during the day at work ... you just have to figure out what works for you

Going from 1 to 2 kids was hard for us. I can honestly (unfortunately) say I didn't like my husband very much for several months. Of course, our 2nd child was the demon baby so that didn't help much. She's almost 5 years old now and still doesn't sleep well.

Going from 2 to 3 was a breeze. I finally felt sane again. I can't explain why 3 kids is easier but it is. It almost makes me want to try for a 4th.

Through each rough spot, I always remind myself that people choose, on purpose, to have more kids than we do. That they willingly try to have more than X number of kids. It has to get better or no one would have X+1 kids. That argument gets a little weaker if you have 4 kids because families of 5 or more kids are rare. I think I better stick with the 3 that I have now. :)

Hi!! So glad to see the great pics from the poly photoshoot! Neat you got the waterfall too, though I love the outside shots.

Kona looks great! I wish there were easier transportation options to get to resorts. It's the main reason I get a car! And resort hop lol! Brrr on the pool though, it was def a chilly time to swim.

Woah! You...RELAXED??? On a Disney vacation? What kind of diser are you??? Lol

I don't know if we relaxed so much as ran out of steam. :rotfl: But it was a nice "evening in." Yes, the pool jets were just a tad warmer, but it was sure a chilly swim, despite still being "warm" out. If it had still been sunny, I'm sure it would have been much better.

Since you were switching dinner reservations, not canceling, did they not charge you for that 25 hour cancellation fee they have? I have thought about moving restaurants before, but I just didn't know if that qualified as a cancellation.
Nope, no fee. However, we made that ADR back before they had fees for ALL restaurants - it was just for the Signatures at the time, I believe, and Boma didn't fall in with that. So, it wasn't a problem. Though I would imagine, if this happened now, they probably still wouldn't charge a fee, due to the monorail being down and all. Not sure if they'd charge a fee for just switching. :confused3

Sounds like the pool was chilly! It was December, after all. And while the pools might be heated, the wind is not. :rotfl2: but at least you can say you tried.
Indeed! The pool was heated, but the air was chilly enough that it made it unpleasant. But, yes, at least we tried to get in a swim at the Poly!

I love the fact that you can buy milk in all gift shops/food locations at the resorts. So convenient.
I love that they have whole milk available - very nice with a baby/toddler in tow!

Haha, I know exactly what you mean about preferring sleep to relaxation. Any parents does. While the balcony sounds nice, sleep sounds even nicer. :lmao:
Sleep is the ultimate treat! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Yep! I think that you and I are of very like minds on this topic! :goodvibes The local moms group I am a part of (from when we had our babies) has had several of the moms already have second babies and I just can't imagine how they do it! The age our kids are now still requires a ton of attention and I don't know how that can be done while nursing and caring for a newborn nearly 24/7. I can see that it would be easier as the toddler becomes more independent and better at communicating and even helping, but until then, it seems very challenging unless the spouse is really on top of things. I will say that Izzy didn't start consistently sleeping through the night until 3 months ago, so that factors into how I perceive things too...another 18 months without a full night's sleep? But, yes, people do it all the time and (generally) seem okay with it. Maybe we can send our DH's to a training camp :lmao: And maybe TheMaxRebo can run it! :rotfl2:

Can you believe i've never been to either?! Very bad. DS is on a HUGE fish kick right now (no beef, very little chicken) so right now CHH sounds like the better call.
Wow, you've got to correct that omission to your Disney dining experience list. :rotfl: It will be interesting to see what DS is into by the time you take your trip, as it seems Izzy is changing her mind ALL the time on what she likes. One day, wouldn't touch a (turkey) hot dog at all...2 days later, ate the entire thing like it was going out of style. :confused3

Oh my goodness. Your Poly pictures are absolutely beautiful!:cloud9: I have a few favs. I love the one of you holding Izzy in the air with the castle in the background and the one where Izzy is pointing to the castle. Aw, thanks! But just to prove how Izzy was doing right before those photos with Dug:

I like when we can work them into other plans in a convenient way, but this one was really out in left field. It made no sense in our schedule and was just there because I wanted to eat there and couldn't find anywhere else to put it. Luckily, there is good dining to be had at the Poly!

man, I feel like I have to stand up for the husbands again :rotfl:
:lmao: You are the official DIS-husband representative of this TR!

Hmmm, not sure about anyone else, but I'm not all psyched up yet... :rotfl:

As far as sharing the workload, you have to figure out what works. I do most of the cooking at our house and often do dishes and help carry laundry (plus typical "guy" jobs like taking out the garbage, etc.). Also, I get up early with the kids and feed them breakfast and stuff - but then get a "break" during the day at work ... you just have to figure out what works for you
I think that is the major issue in our house. And it's something that I've never been able to "fix", no matter what approach I take. The ONLY chore that Dug does reliably (well, except the weeks where he forgets ) is take out the trash and recycling. His other "job" is to load the dishwasher, but he puts it off so long that I end up doing it at least half the time (and my "job" is to unload, so I'm doing both). He does do his own laundry most of the time, though, so there is that. He really doesn't clean at all - and usually makes messes. I learned a long time ago that I need to strike a balance between cleanliness and keeping my sanity - so our house is usually in only a "tolerable" state so that I don't stew about having to clean up after him all the time. This is probably more than anyone needs to know. But, suffice it to say, that husbands who do their fair share around the house, especially voluntarily, are pretty awesome. :thumbsup2

The other factor that is BIG for us is that we both have 1-hour++ commutes each way. Which means that I get up crazy early and leave by 6am (Dug has to do daycare drop-off, since 7am is the earliest), then I have to leave work around 3:30pm so that I can get home to pick Izzy up by the 5pm deadline, however Dug doesn't make it home until after 6pm, at best, due to his later start. Point is, it is difficult to do anything with a schedule like that. And, clearly, you can tell by when I post my updates, I am a night person and not very good at going to bed early to get enough sleep. So, that's not helping my "another kid" mindset either. We are both sort-of looking for new jobs without commutes.

However, I will say that I almost felt like Dug was lurking these comments tonight, though (pretty sure he wasn't). For whatever reason, he was incredibly helpful!!! He had worked from home today, so was already there and wrapping up work when I got home with Izzy. Rather than his usual sit-in-recliner-with-computer-and-phone routine, he played with Izzy, changed a diaper, cooked dinner (well, it was in the crockpot during the day, but he did it), put dinner on the table, etc. I got to leisurely prepare coupons for my grocery run tonight. It was SO nice. Gave me a taste of what it could be like (because this is NOT the norm around here). So nice to not be on toddler-duty every waking moment.

Man, with a comment like this, people are going to pop in and think they missed an announcement. :lmao: (No announcements like that here, folks!)

Thanks for your thoughts and that makes sense. Though, again, not very encouraging about a second...but it sounds like TheMaxRebo is pulling into Easy Street with his 3rd almost here. :rotfl2:

Realistically, for us, all of this is a just a theoretical discussion anyway. We don't know if we'll even be able to have a second (or more). Izzy took 2.5 years and was still, well, kind-of a lucky fluke. :confused3

Okay, enough deep thoughts for tonight....moving on....

Hi!! So glad to see the great pics from the poly photoshoot! Neat you got the waterfall too, though I love the outside shots.
Hi! Thanks - I was really happy with how the pictures turned out! Thanks for being one of the people that gave me the idea to do it! :goodvibes

Kona looks great! I wish there were easier transportation options to get to resorts. It's the main reason I get a car! And resort hop lol! Brrr on the pool though, it was def a chilly time to swim.
For early morning and later evening ADRs at resorts, I can absolutely see why a car would be easier. Otherwise, we generally figure out a reasonable way to work things in using Disney transportation, but I would imagine just driving is still more efficient most of the time.

Yeah, it was chilly for a swim. Wish we'd had time while it was still light out - the warm sun would have helped a lot!

I absolutely love her blue and white outfit! And playing on the pillow was so cute-especially her upside down! Lol! I think we are in that stage now with Camryn (coming up on 15months?). SO fun! I just love being a mommy, but she was a surprise for us as we weren't trying to get pregnant. Of course, now we realize how blessed we are and LOVE being parents!!! Even though, I'm NOT ready to tackle #2 yet either! I still want more 1-on-1 time with just her before we have to divide our attention to a sibling!

However, there WAS an indirect announcement made concerning another DISer and an August trip!!! And for the record, I'm jealous. Again. I'll be preparing one of my horses for a big sale in August with no way to take off during that time! I'll just have to live vicariously through y'all's TRs! ❤️

Just found your trip report yesterday and I'm hooked, izzy is totally gorgeous! I'm a mom of 4, my oldest being 15 & youngest turned 2 in February so I'm starting over taking a toddler to wdw, (8 year gap) and it's funny how it sends you into a panic, I've waited 3.5 years since my last trip as I didn't think lexi would cope with the flight, or rather I wouldn't as it's 9 hours from the uk yikes! We leave in 6 weeks. I can totally relate to feeling things aren't quite equal on the parenting/responsibility front and was so disappointed you didn't get your MK night, you totally deserved it.
Really excited to see more photos and read more, your photos at crystal palace totally melted me, it is an awesome place and I still remember my sons first birthday there 10 years ago, it's a must do every trip for us

Thank you! And, yes, she was 14.5 months on this trip, so right on! It really is fun to see the little personality developing and the communication getting better. (And it continues to be more and more fun, at nearly 22 months now! I love hearing what she has to say - it's amazing how quickly those helpless little newborns become small people with opinions!)

I agree - I think it would be really hard to split attention between a young toddler and a newborn, both being so dependent still.

Hey, that's what TRs are for! :goodvibes I'll write more soon, but for the record - it's not another trip together, but overlapping with some meet-ups! :thumbsup2

:welcome: and thank you!

Wow, a 9-hour flight! Makes my 3 hours seem like a piece of cake! :rotfl: I totally understand where you're coming from, though - we'll be going to Hawaii in November and that is going to be a very long time in an airplane for a 25 month old! I hope your flight and your visit are fantastic! :goodvibes

Thanks! Yeah, that MK night was such a needed piece of alone-time that would have done wonders for me at that point. Izzy was super clingy to me on that trip and I really needed some time off. Oh, well.

Awww, that's sweet that you have all those memories from Crystal Palace! It's such a great place. I will always treasure those pictures and videos from Izzy's first visit there. :lovestruc

So, this update isn’t really off-topic of Disney, just of this Dec. 2013 trip. Consider it a mini pre-trip-report compilation, I guess. :confused3 I am a bit overwhelmed at all of the travel we’ve done in the last 8 months and what is still to come. :faint: Not unhappy about it, by any means, but a bit amazed that this is my life. So, in order to sort everything out, thought I would just do a post to summarize everything until I can manage to get any actual stand-alone pre-trip-reports going. I have to admit, I actually just went around my house and snapped a few pictures to post so this wasn’t ALL words, ha!

Going back to the beginning, we start at the trip I’m currently writing about: Dec. 2013. Izzy’s first plane ride. Izzy’s first big vacation. Izzy’s first Disney park. Unless I’ve already forgotten something, her only nights away from home prior were a couple weekends in Wisconsin. So this trip was a big deal! And it was a great trip. After this trip, we knew that we wanted to go back at least once before Izzy turned 3 (while she was a WDW freebie!)

We never thought Izzy would have 4 round-trip flights under her belt over a 6-month period. But, the short-notice wedding in New York and the unexpected funeral in Oregon happened in April and May, respectively. Certainly, both were worthwhile, but they more than drained our travel fund :sad2:, as all we had planned was Aulani (I’ll get to that!) and a couple weekends in Wisconsin (where my grandma lives).

Then, the opportunity presented iteself for Izzy and I to take a quick, inexpensive girls’ trip with a fellow DISer and her daughter (Imagineer5 – Lauren & Aria). I couldn’t pass that up and was able to fund it out of my “fun money”. Spoiler alert, but I upgraded my ticket while I was on that trip to an Annual Pass. Given that Dug and I wanted to return before Izzy was 3 and the AP would run until about 2 years and 8 months, it seemed to make sense to save on my future ticket and get AP discounts. ::yes::

But, you know the problem with having a WDW Annual Pass, right? You feel compelled to get your money’s worth from it. :teacher: ESPECIALLY when Disney announces something like Frozen Summer Fun and you have a toddler that can use the AppleTV remote to load up and watch Frozen all by herself – yes, she’s obsessed! :worship: In case you were wondering, the answer to “Do you want to build a snowman?” is ALWAYS, “Yeah!!!” :hyper:

There is one three-day weekend during the Frozen Summer, so that would be my chance to go without taking time off work – Labor Day Weekend. Oh, and guess who extended their August trip over that weekend to enjoy some Frozen fun? :confused3 Yep, Lauren and Aria. How fun to be able to say hi to our Disney buddies again! :goodvibes We'll be meeting up for the major activities of the day.

The budget for this trip is pretty much non-existent, due to all the other travel I’ve just mentioned and the upcoming things I’ll cover. :sad2: Luckily, the trip is nearly free for just me and Izzy to go. Unfortunately, bringing Dug would add the cost of airfare and an AP, so nearly $1k, and that’s just a no-go right now. Poor Dug! :sad1: For me, though, I will probably use the free flight we have with our Flexperks (will work for up to a $400 flight). Airfare has actually been under $300 lately, which is pretty good, so it makes me consider purchasing a ticket and saving the miles, but I’m really trying to spend as little as possible for this, so will probably just get the free ticket. At any rate, I have a reservation at Pop for 2 nights with the AP holder discount, so total of $185. Free transportation on the Magical Express. Spending $59 on a Frozen Premium Package ticket to help us get the most out of our day by avoiding the crowds and lines – and getting unlimited food and drinks. Izzy is free, so this is a deal for us! :thumbsup2 I’m planning to eat counter service and snacks, for the most part. The only sit-down planned is lunch at the 50’s Prime Time with our Disney friends. So, all in all, not a lot of cash. Then, to offset part of that, you may remember me mentioning the Shopkick app some time ago. You earn “kicks” by walking into stores and/or scanning products in stores. The “kicks” can be redeemed for Target Gift Cards (and other things). I redeem for Target Gift Cards, but then use them to buy Disney Gift Cards. And there were a lot of “kicks” to be had recently, so I got $100 in Disney Gift Cards in the last month or two. :woohoo: I’m fairly confident that I will have at least another $50 Disney Gift Card before the trip. You can do the math. It makes me want to do a TheMaxRebo thing: A+B+C+D+E = foolish and irresponsible NOT to go! :rotfl2:

I did find Izzy some Frozen socks in the $1 bins at Target:

I also couldn’t resist getting her an Olaf shirt:

I’ll wear mine that day, so we’ll be twins!

I have to say that I am ridiculously excited about this trip and the Frozen Fun in particular! I might cry when I can ask Izzy, “Do you want to build a snowman?” and then she can! (Okay, so we could do that through April here, but still). I hope she is still as into Frozen by the time we go. It will be so amazing to see her immersed in something she loves. Plus, we’ll get to do some other (non-Frozen) things that we didn’t have a chance to do last trip.

Okay, on to other trips, though! We are less than 4 months out from going to Hawaii and staying at Disney’s Aulani Resort in a DVC Studio Villa for 9 nights!!! Oh, yeah, and we’re flying First Class to and from. :snooty: This trip is entirely an “I can’t believe this is real life” experience! If you don’t remember the details, you can find them earlier in this TR (check the off-topic index for “So, Um, Aloha?”). The summary: on December 26th, I was checking airfare to Hawaii because my in-laws wanted to celebrate their 40th anniversary there in December 2014 and thought it would be neat if the kids could join them (and pay our own way, to be clear). So, I was just checking what kind of money we’d be talking to fly to Hawaii. I sure didn’t expect $70/each for First Class to be the answer. But it was! pixiedust: I just so happened to be unbelievably lucky and was looking while Delta had their major price glitch. Well, long story short, the in-laws already took their dirt-cheap trip to Hawaii and we rented DVC points at a bargain price and are coming up on ours!

Cannot wait!!! I really need to get on top of planning this, though. I feel like the time has actually gone by really fast (what with all this other travel) and we need to get serious about putting together some sort of itinerary. We’re super excited about Aulani and taking it all in, but also have a lot of other things we’d like to do. I really should start a PTR for this. Someday, ha.

And, then, finally – May 2015 – we are tentatively planning a Land & Sea! I have wanted to do this for a long time! I love cruises (have only been on two – a Princess and a Royal Caribbean) and can’t wait to try a Disney Cruise! Dug is very excited too, as he was on the Royal Caribbean cruise with me and surprised himself by LOVING it (just as he was surprised how much he loved WDW).

The plan is to be on the Disney Dream for the 4-night Bahamas cruise that starts on May 18th (Monday). This means that we’ll have the weekend before and the long weekend after (Memorial Day) to spend at WDW! And, most likely, the first weekend will be the end of Flower & Garden and the beginning of Star Wars Weekends! We have never been to F&G and I’m excited that it’s becoming a bit like Food & Wine, which we love. Can’t wait to experience it! And Dug is dying to go back to SWW, especially in a year that a new movie is coming out. Izzy will probably love it too – she loves a good lightsaber battle!

I just got approved for a Sun Country Airlines credit card and it comes with enough miles to at least get my flight for this trip and maybe part of Izzy's. If Dug gets one too, that will cover him and also maybe part of Izzy's (she'll be over 2, so we have to get her a seat). That makes me feel better about using the Flexperks free flight for Frozen - we will still have flights for our next WDW trip!

So, I’ll need to start a PTR for that sometime too, I guess. See what I mean? Overwhelmed! And tack onto that another trip to Wisconsin the weekend after next, most likely. Little Izzy sure gets around!

Hahahahahaha. Umm Dugette...you have a problem. The first step is admitting you have a problem. Hahahaha

Lol at izzy pulling up frozen herself. Caden can completely navigate the iPad and his current obsession is Cars! I think he watched it 15 times in a row the other day (I was unpacking and needed him entertained. I don't normally let him watch a movie 15 times in a row) he hasn't figured out the Apple TV yet. He thinks it's touchscreen hahaha

I totally saw those frozen socks today at target. Did you see in the jrs section that they have an Olaf shirt (something about summer) and one that's black with elsa and "keep calm and let it go" on it in blue sparkly letters? I almost bought it today. Lol

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty darn jealous of your trips! I'm dying waiting for jan to get here and all my dis friends are going on trips all over the place! Argh!!
