Beaches in Grand Cayman and Cozumel

Can anyone please give us some ideas for good beaches in Grand Cayman and Cozumel, for swimming and snorkeling. We are trying to save on excusion costs, and do it ourselves. Thanks in advance.

Grand Cayman - Seven Mile beach is beautiful!!!

Cozumel - Chaanakaab is a great place that offers lots for it's admission fee, and is very easy to get to by taxi. There is snorkeling, swimming with the dolphins, some old ruins, and a botanical garden of sorts there.

Cayman has loads of great beaches and great spots all over 7 Mile Beach. THe main public beach is great with a great italian/Seafood restaurant called Neptunes across the road. There are also slides and swings too, little cabanas to get out of the sun. Many cabs will take you to Royal Palms or Beach Club but they all charge to get in, like $5 per person adn then $5 a chair too...

If you rent a car (I think avis cayman has deals for like $26.00 for the day if I remember what we paid)you can see a lot more, Rum Point is unreal, shallow water where you can walk out forever it seems.Too expensive to get to by car Cemetary Beach has nice storkeling too.

We took a cab from shops to the public beach $5 a piece. The sand was so white and the water great. We saw a few small fish. It was nice having the shaded pavillion to keep our things at. Rest room had changing are and shower. Cab ride back was only $2.50 a piece, go figuire. There were probably only 5 or 6 other families on the beach with us. Have a great time.

Mr Sanchos beach on Cozumel is awesome. We took a taxi from the dock - $15 and the driver was very surprised to get a tip. Entry is free and you walk past some small shops to get to the beach. There are lots of tables and loungers and the bar is great - swings for seats. There are lockers but we felt very safe leaving our stuff under the watchful eye of our waiter. We had a "tab" and for 3 Coronas, 2 smoothies, a sprite and a huge sampler platter of nachos, ribs, wings etc we were $28! The restrooms have showers and were very clean - a big concern for my mother. I can heartily recommend it.

Was the taxi for $15 total, or per person. How many people were in the taxi?

The taxi was $15 total - there was just the 2 of us in the taxi. He was a very nice driver telling us about the island as we went to the beach and telling us when and where to get taxis back.

We're just back from the July 20th cruise and I have a few words about the beaches.

In Grand Cayman, we went to 7 mile beach a little ways down from the Holiday Inn. The beach was beautiful and the water clear. My son and I snorkeled a bit here and saw several little fish. He says this was one of his favorite things he did on our cruise. It was very relaxing and not crowded at all. It is a ways from port and you will need to get a taxi to and from.

In Cozumel we went to Playa Sol on our own. All I can say about this is that they are in this soley for the money!! They let way too many people in on this beach and it was not enjoyable at all. We were very disappointed because of the crowds. The day we were in port there were a total of 8 cruise ships and most of them were promoting Playa Sol. We arrived there by taxi before noon, bought the basic package for all of us and went in. There were NO loungers left and NO umbrellas left. They did end up handing out floats that could be used in the water and to lay on on the beach but these were soon gone also. People were literally right next to each other on the beach. There was so many people that we were afraid to let our stuff alone. Afraid we would lose our small spot. The main reason we went to this beach was because my DS saw their Iceberg on the website and wanted to try it. Word of warning on this. It is way out in about 20 feet of water. You have to be a very strong swimmer to make it out to it and the current can be strong. My DH and DS ended up borrowing 2 floats to make it out to the Iceberg and my DH held on to them while my DS climbed the iceberg. He said it was fun but too hard to get to. We thought it would be easily accessible. The water was beautiful but again, very crowded. Needless to say we stayed about 2 hours and then left. I"m very thankful that I did not purchase this trip thru Disney as I would have spent nearly $200 for our family of 4. We ended up spending $54 including our taxi ride. I did see a section 'reserved' for people that bought the excursions thru their crusie ship but it also looked very crowded. If we ever go back to Cozumel, I think we will try a less promoted beach.

Please know that this is my opinion only and my experience, others may have had a completely different experience. Please do a lot of research before making your final decision.
