I realize there's a numbe of beaches along the coast, but does anyone have any recommendations for a beach close to Disneyland? Our options are to stay in one of the hotels just outside Disney then commute or get a hotel near the beach. Which beach should we go to with children 3, 5 and 7? Redondo? Huntington Beach, Zuma Beach, Blacks Beach, Santa Monica Beach, Venice Beach, etc. etc.

thanks!

I think it depends on a couple of factors. Do you want to stay in Orange County, or are you ok with traveling to L.A. County beaches? If you want a nice, relaxing day at the beach, I'd have to say Corona Del Mar, Laguna, Newport, Huntington, Bolsa Chica, or Seal Beach (none of which are too far from DLR -- about 20 miles). Here's a decent link to help you: http://www.southern-california-beaches-vacation-guide.com/orange-county-beaches.html

Of course, if you want the side-show scene, definitely visit Venice Beach, in L.A. County. Santa Monica is nice, but the rides and games on the pier aren't all they're cracked up to be (read: tourist trap). The L.A. County beaches are about 40 miles from DLR.

I'm partial to the OC beaches. Can you tell? :beach:

Simplest one would be to just get on Harbor Blvd right next to DL and head south. It will take you right to Costa Mesa/Newport Beach. It isn't the fastest way, but I think it's the simplest. Newport Beach was probably my fav beach anyway.

Blacks Beach? :rotfl: Do you know what that is? Let's just say the dress code there is one the light side.

As for beaches, yes Newport or Huntington will be good choices. The OC beaches will be closer than the others in LA you mentioned.

Haha I was just going to warn the OP of the same thing... probably not the best choice for the kiddos, unless you want to have "the talk" a little early. :rolleyes1

hehe... I always wondered why they called it Blacks Beach with all that white flesh :)

We went to Newport last time and it was about 15-20 minutes away. It was great though, we will probably go again this next trip :)

I'D go with newport beach. i grew up there , its nice and just right down the 55 freeway., lots of nice places to eat along PCH and at Corona del mar beach is a great place to watch the boats!

Yep... IMO NB the best choice in the area. Long stretch of beach, lots to do, food & activities abound.. and just a great beach all around.

Newport is fun. They have a concrete boardwalk where you can get greasy food (think corn dogs and funnel cakes) and walk the shops. They also have boat rides if your into that. We took a sunset cruise where they showed us rich people's homes in the bay and then took us onto the ocean to watch the sunset over the mountains. It was awesome!!! It was only $15 a person.

If you want to swim with the kids the perfect place is just south of NEwport. Corona Del Mar. It is a crescent shape beach with perfect waves. It is literally a few minutes south of newport and is almost connected to Newport except a jetty splits the two.

Here is Corona Del Mar

We did Venice beach a few years ago and found it a bit seedier. Below is the website for OC beaches - Laguna beach looks good and has a nice playground (I think this is the one we went to with our 3 year old).

This one looks good by laguna beach and has tidepools - http://www.beachcalifornia.com/alis...newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=39789671

This website has lots of pics of different parks http://www.communitywalk.com/map/list/345230?order=0

^^ agree with you. Newport Beach is my favorite!!:lovestruc:love:

Loved jumping into the waves as they came crashing into the shore, but unfortunately I made it into a semi nude beach due to the waves being really rough that day. .....Thank goodness I was in deep enough that no one knew but me, the fishes and now all those on the DIS!!

Your right Hydroguy. The water was in the 60's but once you get use to it there was not a problem. It is actually quite refreshing. Always be careful though with the undertow and the waves. This last time we went we weren't paying attention and one wave crashed over us and knocked us down under the water and then pulled me back. I got up scraped up and disoriented for a few seconds. Powerful stuff. Still we had alot of fun. Corona Del Mar is the best beach in CA and only is second to Coronado Beach in San Diego for us and we have visited quite a few.
