Hi!
We just got back from Disney World last night. We were there for 12 nights and had Free Dining. It was Great and the only place that gave us trouble with sharing was Beaches and Cream. Our waitress was Darlene and she was nice enough but she said me and my daughter could not share a entree and dessert and that they would charge 3 credits(it was me, my husband and my daughter) now matter if she ordered anything or not.My daughter was not hungry but she ordered anyway. It seemed like a waste of food but the waitress said that is their policy. That is the only lace the whole 12 night stay that gave any trouble at all. Most times my daughter did get her own entree but a few we shared.
I just wanted to post this in case it helps someone.

interesting. My DH and I sometimes share if we aren't that hungry at TS places. I'm not sure why that would be there policy as you aren't getting any more food than they would normally give you. If you have a person who doesn't want to eat but just sits down and maybe gets a drink or just ice cream (pay OOP) that isn't allowed if another in the party wants a meal. It is an ice cream place parlor.

We go there every visit for a kitchen sink (only, no food) and we always share it. I wonder if this is a new policy. I hope not, we do this as our lunch one day each trip... it's tradition for us, I'd hate to not go. The kids talk about it every day!!!

I think the difference here is that "the kitchen sink" is meant to be shared. OP was talking about actual meal sharing. Which I agree with OP-they should be allowed to share.

I wonder why they don't just have some minimal "plate" fee charge for sharing like some out-of-the-world restaurants do? Maybe Beaches & Cream figures it's either use a free dining credit or pay OOP for a plate fee so they charge the free credit. People have reported getting charged a plate fee at a character meal, too.

thats odd. i havent eaten there, but ive shared at other table service restaurants. though, we usually dont exaclty say we are sharing. we would just all order and then when they got to the person sharing she/he would say they arent hungry or they arent getting anything.

i sure hope this isnt the new policy.

but how would the server know she is getting dining free?
it would be interesting to know how they handle people paying OOP and wanting to share. i sure hope the rules are the same across the board.

Sad to hear this. We love B&C and usually share a few table service credits over the 5 of us because it is just too much food. I think Darlene is one of the long-term waitresses there (or am I thinking of Delores?). I guess we will just go for OOP desserts.

same thing happened to us last year during free dining at California Grill - dd had been ill, and couldnt eat much, waitress said we could take her entree "to go" but she was charging us 6TS credits whether she ordered food or not!! (and we took her meal togo - it was a wonderful lunch btw!! I'm sure it was steak, and I probably heated the potato and veggie item in the food court microwaves)

This year we're going not on Dining plan and hope we dont have to order an entree each - dd wants to eat there for her bday but only likes their flatbread - and the WISHES from the balcony!!

Not surprised. We ate there last month and I thought they were a little unaccommodating. Everyone wanted a desert except me after dinner, so I asked if I could only have one scoop of ice cream with hot fudge (I just wasn't ready for the 3 scoops in the regular hot fudge sundae). The server, said yes, but I would be charged the same price as though I bought the regular sundae. It just rubbed me the wrong way and passed on the desert. I just left while the rest of the family ate their deserts. I know policy is policy, but it was just the way she said it that bothered me. I still eat here, but I don't make any additional request or changes to the menu.

I saw a whole table sharing the kitchen sink while we were there. I am fairly sure that is all they got and they didn't eat a meal there. I agree with the poster who said the difference probably is that the kitchen sink is meant to be shared.
I was very surprised when the waitress told us, she said I don't want to be mean but that is our policy.
We shared other places and not one place gave us any trouble what so ever.

I totally get that the kitchen sink is meant to be shared, (I love ice cream, but no way any of us could finish that on our own!!!! :rotfl:)

What I was more commenting on was the fact that we only ate that, no food, and was wondering if that was going to be a problem.

Would you mind telling me where it is safe to share? DH and I often share because the portions are just too much for us. My teen kids, however, each eat all of their meals.

Tutio Italia, I hope I spelled that correctly we shared and they were absolutely fine. In the Yachtsmen steakhouse and Narcoose's (sp.) my daughter did not want anything on the menu she is 14 so she ate counter service right before we went so she didn't really eat anything during the meal so we didn't share but she had a bit of my dessert. Also, at the Coral reef she just had her own dessert, we paid oop. At Kona Cafe for breakfast one morning she ordered the big kahuna and the waiter and me and my husband laughed because it is pancakes, french toast, eggs, sausage, bacon etc., she is tiny and thin and her with a Big kahuna breakfast was funny, the waiter said, a big breakfast for a little girl!!
She ate about half of it. Oh, we also shared at Tony's town square. We had 12 days of meals and I almost forgot about Tony's because it was at the beginning of the trip.

Sounds like restaurants have the option to allow sharing or not. I know hte B&C waitress indicated above and she has been there for years and is an excellant server. If she said that their policy is no sharing on DDP then that would be the B&C policy.

This is also not the first report we have had about B&C no sharing policy

I have a different idea about this - I think the B&C wait staff are just grouchy! Our waitress was so grouchy and glum with us the entire time we were there (ordered the kitchen sink). She definitely didn't get much of a tip from us. Imagine my uneasiness when my ds realized he left his bag of recently purchased Disney Racers there. We immediately went back - ran into a couple we were dining next to in the lobby and they let us know that we had left the bag and the waitress took it. Ds and I went back and asked for her. She came up and asked us what we wanted (:confused3 other diners just told us she took the bag not more than 10 minutes before). We politely explained that ds left the bag. She says oh we thought it was trash and threw it away! WHATEVER! There were brand new toys in the bag and you thought it was trash??? Anyway, she went in the back and after about 10 minutes she brings the bag and toys to the counter and starts wiping them off. She HAD thrown them away! And was now going to give them back to us all nasty! I was SOOOOO disappointed in this experience. GRRRR!!! Anyway, the other staff didn't look too happy either so maybe they just want to share their grouchiness with you by making you "spend" your credits???? Misery does love company.

Huh. Well, this must be only a DDP plan thing. Just last week my family split a sandwich and an order of onion rings (as a prelude to the kitchen sink, that is why it was such a small order) and it arrived divided neatly onto separate plates which we didn't expect all. We paid OOP for it all though and that must be the difference.

For obvious reasons, you can't share at buffets or all you can eat fixed menu meals.

I agree. We had the same experience. We have gone there three times and each time, we had a very grumpy waitress. I think we had the same one each time. She would stand there like we were wasting her time and she had better things to do than to take our order. A few times she banged onto my son's chair and didn't even apologize. Granted it was very tight there, but my son is very little and he was pushed in as much as possible. She was just so rude.

But I will comment that n on one occasion, the host (CM taking reservations) was very pleasant and when she called us, she spoke to my children (it was like being in Disney....oh wait we were at Disney:lmao: ). Anyways, the other times the host brought us in and just walked over to the table without saying a word or making any eye contact. When my husband asked a question, she abruptly said "just ask your waitress".

I will admit, I have never seen so many grumpy waitstaff in one place than Beaches and Cream. I did notice that they were a little nicer at the "To Go" section.

By the way, we pay OOP each time and we had always been able to share. I don't really like the food, but I love the dessert, so my family and I usually share a couple of snacks before we get our dessert. Even with the grumpiness, they seem to be fine with it. But I suppose that's because we are not using our dining credits.:confused3

We stay at BC once a year and we have not come back there for a long time now. It was just so unDisneylike.

That's ridiculous to be charged for food that you don't want to order. You shouldn't be forced to order food. If one person in your party is not hungry, they should be able to just sit with you.
