Beaches along the way

This is our second year in a row going to Disney & my husband desperately misses the beach. We will be driving from Pittsburgh to Orlando. Our original plans involved leaving a day and a half earlier than WDW hotel check-in, driving straight through & arriving in the Cocoa Beach area mid-afternoon. We'd spend the night at a local hotel & the next afternoon, head to WDW.

Now I am thinking that there is a chance that we may not be able to drive straight through (need a back up plan) and was wondering what were good places to stop that were along the beach. It puts us on 95 right around the end of S. Carolina.

Any advice? I need to give him a beach day!

The closest two beaches to that point would be Hilton Head Island, SC or TYbee Island, GA.
Coming from Pittsburgh you're probably doing the i-81 to i-77 to i-26 to i-95 route. If you stay on i-26 east you'll end up in Charleston, SC, you can stay there then take US 17 back to I-95 and be on your way.

We recently stayed at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. It was wonderful! The resort is not right on the beach but they do have this amazing beach house on the ocean (you can take a shuttle). It has a pool, rec room, and food. Just a thought! The resort it also amazing...there is plenty of information about it on the DVC miscellaneous board if you are interested.
