BeachClub Villas VS Old Key West

I'd vote for OKW. I've read far too much negative about BCV on these boards. If I felt the need to be near EPCOT & MGM, I'd go for BWV instead!.

Depends on what you want. Do a search and read about each place. Then decide what is important to you.

We have that choice every time we go and have always picked thd BCV. I would only pick OKW to save points, but that has not been a big issue to date.

The OKW resort is beautiful and relaxed...I just prefer the location of the BCV and we LOVE the pool, Storm Along Bay. We can walk to any number of restrauants and walk to Epcot.

Hi,
Love OKW for the rooms, and the drive up parking. Also like the condo like feel.
We are hoping to switch our next vacation to BCV for the pool and epcot, and to also try a different resort.

Yes I've seen the negatives on this board about BCV, but I've also seen positives. I also notice if someone posts a negative or positive then an environment is opened where many more opinions are posted. Maybe for BCV, one bad post opens a forum for others to agree?

Anyhoo, I've read the bad posts, noticed the good posts and my thought is; I just want to try the place out and decide for myself.

BCV has a location advantage. Rooms and parking go to OKW. We like the "more quiet" feel to OKW and with a car, getting to the BCV area is a snap.

OKW has been great for our situation. As my girls get older I also realize it has other benefits.... they can walk around more and explore on their own - I'm not nervous about traffic or all the nasty things that can happen in a more crowded, open environment.

(yes, i know bad people can be dvc owners, but are they really?)

anyway, that's just one of the newer benefits beyond the quiet, the easy parking, the staff members, the atmosphere... the lack of teenage boys will also be a bonus in a few years! (ha ha)

bcv - summer and fall when the wine/food festavial - Oct/Nov

OKW - spring especially May - Sept - Dec (I really like VWL for Dec)

that is my taste anyway....

They are both awesome resorts.

Is anyone in your party going to golf? If so, you might sway more towards OKW. DTD is also so close. It is a lovely quiet place and very roomy.

BCV has the awesome SB, and the BCV pool is also very nice and close. The BW atmosphere is a lot of fun.

Good luck deciding.

I've stayed at both (plus the BWV) and enjoy each for its own reasons.

I loved the room size at Old Key West. The feeling of being away from it all was so relaxing. It was nice to have quiet after full days at the park. We didn't have a car, but honestly, I didn't miss it. When I'm on vacation, I like leaving the driving to other, and the buses were just fine. It was my first experience with DVC and had a big hand in my deciding to join. When we opened the door and walked into our two-bedroom, my daughter-in-law just went, "A-h-h-h-h-h-h." That says it all.

I bought at the Beach Club, because that's what was available through Disney, at the time. I admit to being a little nervous prior to our first trip, because I'd read lots of bad about the BCV on this board. The air conditioning is awful. Water pressure stinks. Unfriendly CMs. Etc. But you know what? We didn't experience any of that? We had a wonderful time this past December, and I look forward to our second trip "home," this fall. I love the location. It's great to be able to walk to Epcot and the Boardwalk, and I love having the option of taking the Friendship boats to MGM. The bus situation could use some tweaking. The buses were almost always full by the time they arrived and we had to stand, but it did not take away from our vacation. I'd rather be standing on a bus at WDW than sitting behind a desk at work. Always.

Good luck! I hope your experience is as magical as ours no matter where you choose to stay.

Pat

48 days and counting . . . again!

I would pick BCV. Proximity to Epcot and MGM, great pool, quiet resort, Beaches N Cream, Cape May Cafe top my list.

The only reason I would ever choose OKW over BCV would be if I didn't have enough points to stay at BCV.

Both are great resorts and each have their stronger points. IMHO the things that can make the most difference is the bed set ups. At OKW you get two proper beds, if your party would need two proper beds that may be an issue, if you're just a couple you may prefer to have one bed and a sofa bed to provide you with a little more floor space and your own couch to sit on. If you have anyone with mobility problems (and you have a car) then OKW may work better as you can pull up just a few yards from your door.

BCV obviously scores highly for it's fantastic pool, and if you'd be planning to visit Epcot a number of times to eat then it has an excellent location.

I've stayed at both resorts, I've picked each resort for a particular trip for specific reasons depending on the group make up and our plans. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule where one resort is always the best choice no matter what. Part of the beauty of DVC is that you can pick the resport that suits that particular break the best. If all things are equal I'd pick the cheapest resort everytime LOL.

I pick both!!!:D

For some trips (especially quick weekend trips) when we are going to mostly do Epcot stuff, we love BCV. On other trips (especially with the grandchildren) we pick OKW.

We prefer the hotel type interior corridors of BCV to the condo spread out feel of OKW. Also, the location of BCV. We love the 5 minute walk to Epcot and 20 minute walk to MGM from BCV.

We own at both. Like both very much. Here is our take on it.

We like BCV for SAB, walking access to Epcot and MGM, Boardwalk, proximity to miniature golf and great selection of restaurants all within walking distance. When we are going to be late at MGM or Epcot it is really nice to be able to walk home instead of going to get on a bus. We also use the boat transportation there when we are really tired or need a few minutes in the A/C during transit.

OKW is best when we want to have a quieter more relaxing stay. The condo layout and size of the units are first rate. Olivias is a great place to eat and we like the boat service to DD. It is also less expensive to own and fewer points to stay than BCV. For some reason OKW feels more like home to us than any of the other resorts.

We own at BCV and had a great first trip home there last March. We are going to OKW in early October and can't wait!! It was a last minute decision to go and it was the only place we could get a 2 bedroom, but we want to try all of the resorts in time anyway!!! I know with 4 kids we will love the spacious units. We plan on visiting SSR during our trip, trying to decide on an add-on.....Lacee

What's the mood of this trip? BCV is bustling and busy, with access to tons of restaurants and the whole Boardwalk area. There is lots of action, lots of people. They will be dressed a bit niftier, perhaps, than the folks at OKW. There will be families and couples and singles. You won't spend much time "alone" in the public areas at the Beach Club. You can easily get to Epcot for a meal or stroll. The whole area is completely developed and there is so much going on at any moment.

OKW is peaceful. The landscaping is lush and beautiful. The pastel buildings never seem crowded, even when the resort is at full capacity. You can park close to your room and the sidewalks can take you all over the resort. People are laid-back here, and many stroll around barefoot or in bathing suits. I never worry about a dress code here! The pools are not themed but often peaceful. You might be in a hot tub all by yourself during your stay! Olivia's offers 3 meals a day and there are 2 snack bars. And while you can't walk to a park easily, you are close to Downtown Disney and offsite eating at the Crossings shopping plaza. The cast members are especially nice here and virtually every room offers a nice view and great maintenance. The 1 and 2 bedroom units are very roomy with tons of closet and storage space.

Depends what you are in mood for! :)

We bought into BCV because we fell in love with YC/BC on a visit years before.

Although we ate at OKW once a long time ago, we never considered a visit there.

After reading some of these glowing reviews, perhaps we need to reconsider our May/June 2005 visit to BCV and head to OKW instead!

Wow hard choice,

Just spent our first time at OKW last week and LOVED IT. We own at BC and the location and theme is great but the space at OKW is a big plus with three teenage boys.

Was planning on staying at BW in Apr (saving points at standard) but am going to change to home resort of BC, then back to OKW in August so there will be plenty of room for the boys to all bring a friend
