Beach vacation? Vero or HHI?

Actually, I believe VB has a character breakfast on Saturday. Don't know about HHI, but I would be surprised if not.

Now Rob -- that's certainly a case of da ja vue! :lmao: ;)

Actually....VB DOES host a character breakfast every saturday morning in shutters. Goofy and Donald are normally there.

Vero. RIGHT on the beach with the sound of the sea from your balcony. We not only didn't love HH, we didn't even like it. Too much traffic, too difficult to find ones way around, too far from the beach (it's on a muddy little inlet), etc.

I liked both but prefer VB over HH. Nothing like hearing the crashing waves of the ocean from your room. Or going down to the beach at 10 pm just to see the full moon over the water.

Felt like there was more onsite dining options at VB. At HH you pretty much have to leave the resort property to get food. Not a huge deal for some.

At HH, I felt like I was in a much more developed area with shopping very close by. VB feels "out of the way" but that is what I liked about it. We always witnessed children's activities going on at VB. I don't think you can go wrong with either place.

We have been to both many times. If you have young kids (say under 10) I would suggest HHI. The beach at VB is much more for the older kids (like me) and has big waves (usually). That said VB is ON the beach and is sooo easy to move from the room to the beach and to the pool. Need to use the bathroom or change a diaper (2 minute walk to the room). Too hot on the beach, the pool is 1 minute away. We typically set up our beach camp and move as desired from the beach to the pool to the room and back. Don't have to pack lunch when the room is a two minute walk away.

:thumbsup2 Can't wait to stay at Vero for the first time in July.

Me too. :thumbsup2 For you all that is. We're waiting to try for the week after Christmas.

Oh let me know how that is. I love beaches in the fall and winter. The boys probably wouldn't but dh and me YEPPERS. :thumbsup2 I am starting to think that 4 nights will NOT BE ENOUGH at Vero. My older son (the 16 year old) he wants to stay longer. I showed him the pics of Vero and he said "Why are we only staying there 4 nights?" You know what...I have a feeling that we will want to TRY for a 2 br next summer for 5 nights.

We tried Vero for a few nights last summer after a week at Disney. Beautiful resort but VERRRRY quiet. We enjoyed having the down time but BOY does that town roll up the streets at 9:00 every night. :sad2: We typically try to enjoy every minute of our days out by the pool or on the beach, coming in around 6:00 or so to shower for dinner. Good luck finding a place to eat after 8:00! We were only there 3 nights but we pretty much closed up Squid Lips one night (the sun was setting while we ate and we were seriously just about the only ones left there). Everything is a drive. We liked it but felt 3 or 4 nights would be plenty of time there.

We're trying HHI this summer and I am hoping we find a little more going on. It looks like it's a much bigger beach at least. I am a bit wary about it not being ON the beach...but since we'll be driving down it shouldn't be a problem if we find the walk too much, we'll just drive since it sounds like there must be parking at the Beach House. I am glad there's a pool & snack bar place AT the beach.

Off topic - I have a question tho about HHI...we just got a studio (normally we're OK in studios when at Disney 'cuz we're never in the room so I hope we'll be OK here). Anyway, are there coffee tables in the studios at HHI? I know that's an ammenity that can be hit & miss with studios. I already know the bathroom counter space is non-existent at HHI so am planning on bringing my over-the-door shoe holder that I use for cruises...but we do like the coffee tables so I'm hoping for one...if not I might bring a TV tray table...

Annie.....I've only stayed there once and for only 2 nights, but I can't recall a coffee table in front of the sofa ???? I went to look at my photos from that trip and of course I took pics of the room except for the sofa ! :rotfl:

No, unfortunately, the studios do not have a coffee table. There is a small round table with two chairs, a night stand and a small circular table as part of the floor lamp. There is a table on the balcony along with another couple of chairs. The kitchenette actually has reasonable counter space, but nothing like the larger HH villas.

Here is a link to the 360 room tour - http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/guest/...nding?id=HHV360Page&CMP=BAC-ProspectPopHH1014 (The door to the right of the TV/Armoire is the connecting door to the lock-off 1BR - the entry door is off the kitchenette.)

Oh pooo. Thanks. I was afraid of that. We do like having the coffee table to eat around etc. That's why in my mind I was thinking of bringing a TV table tray thingy. Good to hear the kitchenette counter is big. I was imressed with the size of the one at Vero last year. SOOO much better than the ones at AKV. Those are too small to make a pot of coffee AND toast a bagel at the same time!:rotfl:

Unfortunately, no Disney characters or meals at either DVC's VB or HHI resorts.

We had a great breakfast w/ Donald & Goofy at VB on a Saturday morning this past fall break. We drove all night to VB and got there at 7:30a.m. We didn't know what time we would get there so we had not made reservations. Well, we were able to walk right in. Breakfast was great and LOTS of character time. There is a place called Ocean Grill a few miles away. My husband had a Florida lobster and he still hasn't stopped talking about it. VB was excellent. I haven't been to HHI but can't wait to go.

Hey Annie :goodvibes

You will definitely find more nightlife at HHI. Not at the resort, but all around. I suggest you all get bikes too. The resort is big enough that I loved riding around it and even just to and from the pool. Plus they have a bike path under the highway to get from the room to the beach and back. Be sure to ask for baskets on the bikes if you get them.

Annie -- I don't think you would want to walk to the Beach House at HHI. It would be a very long walk. There is definitely parking there if you drive your car. You can also take the shuttle bus which departs from the Live Oak Lodge (check-in building) pretty much on demand at certain times of the year, or on a half-hour schedule otherwise.

Although I do like to walk to the beach at HHI, I use it as my morning walk as the rest of the family pile in the van and drive with all of our beach stuff to the beach house. If you get there early you will find a spot, but beware in season by 11:00 or so the parking lot does fill up and the shuttle is the way to go.

As far as nightlife, HHI has a plethora of restaurants all over, you will not be the last ones closing it down unless you are out really late!!

Enjoy your trip!
