Beach vacation? Vero or HHI?

Which would be a better choice for a family of 5 (3 kids) for a beach vacation? Vero Beach or Hilton Head? I know nothing about either one & am not sure where to start. Thank you.

We just got back form Vero Beach and LOVED it!!!! There were activities for all ages! We were there the week after spring break and there were a handful of teens there having a blast. I felt like the entire set up was perfect for our family. We have a 4 yo and an adventurous 2.5 yo. Loved that the entire pool area, splash area, play area were enclosed. The beach was closed 2 morning to prepare for the Turtle Nesting season but opened in the afternoon.

I think the only downfall is that there is not an ice cream shop on property. I am 7 months pregnant though so that may not be a huge issue for most.

I would love to visit HHI as well but since you have to take a shuttle to the beach and want a beach vacation, I would say Vero.

If you order pizza, order Orchard Island Pizza. They deliver and have amazing food!

We did not like HHI. Bad experience there on our trip and just left a bad taste. Partly our fault for poor research and partly not. The room was noisy from the stairs outside, My daughter got a large splinter in her foot from the boardwalk over the marsh. We came in from swimming on the beach @ 2:30 and the pool house snak place had closed up (@2:00 IIRC) then by the time time we got back and got cleaned up the on-site restaurant had stopped serving due to contractual agreement with city of HH. So we had to leave the property to find something to eat. As many have attested, HHI is not the easiest place to find your way round. Any of these by itself would not have been major but they just compounded.

Anyway we tried VB last year and it was pefect! Ocean, pool, parking, everything just seemed right. We are going again this July!

Just wanted to add......my husband affectionately refers to VB as the "Disney Old Folks Home" because of how quiet it gets after 9 pm.

But alas, we will be there in 14 days because we do love the change of pace. I think I would like HH more if it were on the beach. When you look at the pics of HH on the DVC site it looks almost remote and out of the way. But it's actually surrounded by a very developed area with shops/dining/marina etc. We liked it well enough, but it wasn't what we thought it would be from the pics on the Member's site. But I agree with Rob and others, I do feel there will be more to do in the area for sure.
