Beach Snacks...

Y'all bring food to the beach? That's weird. I mean, who wants to eat with sandy hands? We go back to the house to eat. Much easier than packing it in ice and toting it to the beach.

We drive over an hour to get to the beach and are usually there all day, from around 11 PM to 4 or 5.

So we take lunch or snacks with us, that way we're not so hungry we want to stop and eat somewhere on the way home lol.

It wouldn't be the beach for us if we didn't have a picnic on it :goodvibes!

I love bringing a greek salad of sorts for me. It is just tomato, cucumbers, red onion and feta with a little olive oil and vinegar. It's so refreshing at the beach.

The kids like cut up watermelon and any kind of cookie. I do also freeze oreos and bring those in the cooler.

And yes we drive an hour to get there-- we are spending the whole day there!
And don't feed the seagulls! YIKES if you feed them you'll have 1000 of them swarming you all day.

We bring water, grapes, plums, nectarines, sandwiches (sometimes we ice down KFC, but it can be messy), chips. Juice bags for the kids, and (depending on mood) sodas too.

I prefer a good ole can of creamed corn. Just don't forget the can opener!

Ahhhhhhhhhh.....the beach...... and snacks......two of my favorite things!

I grew up spending summers on the beach and so did my own kids. We were always close enough to walk back to the house for lunch, so we seldom took sandwiches and such. We'd head down early in the morning, spend three or so hours, then head back up to the house for lunch (and maybe a nap, depending on the ages at the time) then return for a few hours in the afternoon.

Snacks, however, were an essential part of the beach experience.:) Some of our staples were: the prepackaged cheese/crackers or peanut butter/crackers, goldfish and pretzel mix, popcorn, grapes, bananas, animal crackers and graham crackers. I always brought water bottles, juice boxes or a jug of lemonade.

However, my kids would tell you that the best loved beach snack, and most fondly remembered, was the zip-lock baggie full of penny candy that my mother always brought to the beach with her. She would keep it in her beach bag and occasionally bring it forth for all to rummage through. Oh how they loved digging through that bag in search of their favorite pieces of candy! She usually had Smarties, fireballs, tiny malted milk balls, pixie straws, caramels, licorice pieces, banana and chocolate flavored Kits, jelly beans, sour candies, peppermints, and various other candies.

Everyone wanted to sit next to my mother on the beach!:rotfl:

Leave the house with frozen strawberries and grapes.....so good on the beach!!!
The state park we go allows you to drive on the beach so we spend the entire day, sometimes the evening. There is a great seafood shop right before we drive into the park so we buy giant shrimp cocktail. They give you sliced lemons and cocktail sauce....

NJ folks may know where it is!!!!!

Wasn't it soup or something?

YES!!!!! That was it. I knew it was something super weird. For the life of me I could just not imagine anyone sitting in the hot sun on the beach eating soup. :rotfl:

Don't forget a cheap loaf of bread to feed the seagulls for fun

:scared1: Only if you want a bird poop facial! :lmao:

As for food, I've never been one to bring much food to the beach, either, but when I was a kid, we rode our bikes there, so not a lot of room to bring more than a bottle of water. If we got hungry, we'd hit the snack bar, and we always stopped at 7-Eleven on the way home for a nice cold Slurpee.

But if I were to going to bring snacks to the beach, I'd bring a lot of what was already said. Grapes, sliced watermelon, chips, cookies, crackers, granola bars... Nothing that needs utensils.

Does anyone else remember reading a thread like this a couple of years ago? Didn't somebody suggest some strange things like yogurt or pudding? They were totally serious too. :lmao:
don't see what is so strange about that....

I so hope this is sarcasm.

Heading to the beach next week...what kind of snacks do you pack? (looking for some new ideas!)

If you have a cooler, I would pack things that are refreshing. Have items that are sealed because sand seems to get in to everything. Disposable plates and cutlery. Pack an extra hefty trash bag to contain your trash.

My tips

1. Save old milk cartons, fill 80% with water and freeze. pack in cooler

2. Towelettes: Wash hands up to elbow. This is to get sand off more then anything else. Have these in the cooler.

3. Yogurt with granola: High energy, yogurt is sealed, cool, refreshing

4. Fruit within its skin: Thing like apples, bananas, etc. Dont peel and cut up fruit because sand gets in it.

5. Fruit juice bags: I like the bags because they pack in the coolers easier. You might even freeze them, and then pull them out about an hour before using them.

6. Bottled water: I might even freeze the water in bottles to use as ice, and drink as they defrost. Depends on cooler size

7. Keyboard cleaner: Yeah right, like HUH? These keyboard compressed air cleaners will blow sand out of anything. Beware, it comes out real cold, but after the towelette and drying off, this can blow off the excess sand. Use short bursts.

8. Stay away from processed sweets. The sugar lows that follow arent worth the drag.

9. Wraps: If youre gonna make something, make wraps and slice them up to make them eatable in 1 bites. This will reduce the sand problem

10. SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN!

11. If you can make a shade area, do so. Lean-to, or umbrella will pay off in the long run.

We used to do this all the time on the ferry when I was a kid, seagulls are just rats with wings, after all. :) It made a special outing out of medical trips to the Galveston university hospital.
