Beach shoes on the beach?

I am starting to make my many lists of things to do and get before our cruise on Feb.26. So I'm wondering about beach shoes for my family. We have never had them and would prefer to not wear them but I'm wondering if we would be sorry. Is there sharp coral or poisonous things we could step on while swimming or snorkeling?
Thanks for the help!

You know, there's nothing really sharp on the family beach or even along the pathways. However, the cement got hot to walk on AND the kids are required to have shoes in the kids club on the island AND if you want to swim at serenity bay there are some sharp rocks scattered in the water. Both times we went, we brought sandals for the entire family and the kids wore them in the club/lab and the adults wore them to walk around. I went barefoot in serenity bay and had to walk gingerly, my sister wore her beach shoes and walked freely.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. The sand is like walking on sugar. We wore our regular tennis shoes off the ship then didn't put them back on until walking back.

When we went the sand was so hot it would have been terribly uncomfortable walking around with no water shoes. The paths were also extremelly hot to walk on barefoot. I always bring them.

We've always taken out water shoes to Castaway Cay and I'm glad we did. The pavement is hot and the beach over at serenity bay can get a little rocky. They are on my packing list.

We just returned from the 1/24 eastern (trip reports posted over on that board if you're interested!) and we did not use our beach shoes. DH and DS wore sports sandals; DD and I went barefoot. We had no problems but we were not at Serenity Beach. My new pedicure was really trashed however!:( The bottoms of my feet were tender for several days after CC. One other note: be sure you rinse anything you wear in the water in the chlorine tanks by the rinse-off showers. We didn't and the guys' sandals stink to high heaven - even after soaking them in bleach water after we got home. I'm afraid they're ruined.

We always wear sport sandals. They are more comfortable than aquas socks, quite a bit more stylish, you can wear them for walking long distances as well as in the water and on sand. We wear them out by the end of the cruise and usually throw them out before coming home. There are some really cute ones out there now, not just those big clunky black things. Look at a sporting goods store and you may be suprised! I love going to pick out my new sport sandals before each of my vacations! That's kind of one of my traditions. I've got my eye on some light blue/silver Nikes for March.

I don't know about anyone else, but the ocean has many, many hidden secrets, I wouldn't want to step on ANY of them in bare feet:worried: - there were alot of strange looking thingson the ocean floor on the adult beach and I was SO HAPPY I had my beach shoes! I bought mine at WDW on a previous trip, but Teva type sandels or anything like that would be on my packing list for sure!
