We've gone to the Outer Banks in NC every year for the past 11 years. We started in Southern Shores, then worked our way up to Duck and for the past several years have been at Buck Island in Corolla. All of those are north of the Wright Memorial Causeway that connects the islands to the mainland. Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and other areas are south of the causeway. Hatteras, Manteo, Avon, etc. are even further south than that and we have not stayed down there.
We like the northern areas better as they are less developed and less touristy than the areas south of the causeway. You can find a whole range of property types and sizes. We like Buck Island as the property has some nice amenities and is very close the grocery store and other shopping. It's more expensive than some other areas.

We've used Corolla Classic Vacations the past few years and have been very satisfied. If you have any questions about specific areas in the north, I'd be happy to answer what I can. PM me or post your questions here.
