I might not have full details, so I apologize if I'm giving partial information here. My parents are DVC memebers and we'll be staying at the BCV with them in November (Nov5-14). Just today they got a letter saying that "part" of the pool will be closed starting Nov 1. Does anyone have any additional info, like which part of the pool, what the schedule is, etc? A large part of why we stay at the BCV is for the pool, so this could be a big bummer!

Thanks.

i read a post that the kiddie pool will be closed in nov. and the slide the first of the year, hope that helps !

we will be there dec.26-30 i hope that the lazy river and the part that connects from that to the slide is still open.

I just got the letter today:( it goes something like this.....Beginning November 1, 2004, the pool area will be under refurbishment. During this time, certain sections of the pool will be unavailable for use. However, the remainder of the main pool not impacted by the enhancement will be available for your enjoyment. We expect the initial refurbishment to be completed by December 23, 2004. so on and so on and tells you to pool hop if room is available or go and use the Dunes Cove, Tidal or Admiral pools.
I'll be bringing our new clear tubes just incase:teeth:

Honestly all these post about SAB are making a big deal out of nothing. The entire pool is not shutting down, just a part of it. SAB is HUGE and there will still be plenty of swimming space no matter what part they are refurbing. When we went last nov. the lazy river part was shut down for refurbishment but it didnt stop us from having a great time.

Everyone's vacation experience is different and everyone has things they enjoy more over other things. I'm not about to pass judgement on anyone who says that any portion of SAB closing will affect their enjoyment of their stay. I was there during the lazy river downtime last year and I know I was very disappointed as it is my favorite of the whole pool.

To the OP:

I copied this from posts a while back - these are what the Rec Manager had said. My comments are in red

"SAB is going into rehab in phases.

First starting November 1 - 23rd determined to be the kiddie / sandbar section

Second, after Thanksgiving, November 23rd until the 22nd (I am assuming December since no month was mentioned) assumed to be the center section with the lazy river

The last phase is January 2 until February 25th!
now known to be the slide and probably the section it drains into - the largest section and about two months to do it

Hope this helps!

kathleena has it right...I also spoke with MS from DVC today after i got the letter and they said during the week of T Day, there will no refurbishing done because of the holiday week so therefore the kiddies section should be done week before T day week and they won't start the next phase/section of the pool which is the lazy river until after T day week is over....
Also this is the case because there are no pool hopping to other pools allowed during T day time also.

sounds reasonable....

About the refurbishment, because it says pool hopping is allowed, just in case of the worst.

BCV Dec 17 - 24th..

I'm just a little bit disappointed, but I guess they have to do it sometime ;)

Even with the letter, you can still be turned away. The letter stated that it was subject to availablity. It didn't say you would automatically be able to pool hop to other resorts. You still should call ahead and follow the regular pool-hopping "procedures".

"Additionally, as a Disney Vacation Club Member, you have the exclusive priviledge to "pool hop" and experience numerous themed pools across Walt Disney World Resort property (excluding Uzima Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge), subject to pool hopping guidelines and pool availability. Please call ahead to the Front Desk of the destination hotel to check pool availability."
