Swimming is not allowed on the beach or at any of the disney world resort beach areas.

I guess you don't listen to the Pod Cast. :)

1) You can play in the sand.
2) Too many "nasties" in the water to even dip-the-toes or walk ankle-deep.

ok thank you, I appreciate it. no I have never listened to a pod cast. we are taking our extended family to florida next year and staying off property. we are bringing everyone to mk for a day, and just thought a little swimming for the families that have little ones might have been an option that way, but looks like it's not. no biggie. i'm just trying to find ways for them to relax a little in the middle of the afternoon without having to go back to the house. thanks again for all your responses!

See "kickin back at the fort" thread. That's the way campers do it. LOL :-) You could just go the Fort and enjoy the afternoon, some activities, horseback riding, doing nothing, etc. :thumbsup2

I DO remember when guests were allowed to swim in the lake: River Country, the beaches at Fort Wilderness and the Polynesian. If it was nasty then, we were blissfully unaware! Some of those resort pools get so crowded, they look like DNA soup, lol! At least they can treat the pools.
As others have said - the Fort is a creat place to kick back and "get away from it all" for a bit.

1) You couldn't swim at a WDW resort unless you are staying at THAT resort.
2) Thus, the question is actually moot.

There are lots of ways to take a break mid-day without returning to your off-site accommodations. As others have mentioned, there are a lot of activities available to all at the Fort - it's just swimming that is restricted to resort guests. Since you are going to MK -- a ride on the railroad can be relaxing while little ones snooze. You could also visit the monorail resorts and/or just ride the monorail (again, ride the loop a couple of times while little ones snooze). Or mix it up with a boat ride to a resort and monorail back to the park. Sit through a show in the park, Carousel of Progress or Hall of Presidents are great napping spots! Plan a table-service meal mid-day to get out of the heat for at least an hour, probably longer especially with a large party.

Enjoy your vacation!

great suggestions! thank you! i was thinking about visiting trails end for lunch for all of us to regroup and get out of the park for a bit. we visited te a couple of weeks ago for the first time for dinner and enjoyed the boat ride and the meal. my husband and i are treating our extended family to this vacation, the only thing they need to pay for are meals and extras, so im trying to find decent priced meals, which i think te for lunch is good. ft. wilderness seemed like a nice place to explore. i'm just trying to educate myself so i can pass along info for them to have the best time possible! thanks again!
