I do not know if the family got in, but they were all so frustrated that they were not welcomed in with open arms as we were at the check in place for the Member Lounge. The photo ID is what they lacked.

It is nice up here. Mostly it is cool, and relaxing.

It's one of those myths that you don't need to bring your photo id or that the MB's will cover everything. We've needed id's at various times at the parks for various reasons and I always have mine. DH generally only brings if I "remind" him and that's cause a problem a time or two.

The same holds true for having membership cards for Top of the World Lounge at Baylake Villas and for various discounts in the shops. I have shown my membership card and picture driver license often. IMO, it is a good procedure.:goodvibes

I thought it was the law, at least in many states, to carry proper identification. Perhaps I'm wrong about that though.

Anyone that drinks knows to carry ID, no matter how old you look. Some places have a ID rule regardless of age.

I thought anyone staying on property could use TOTWL at Baylake. So would that be just your MB now?

You must be a member and staying at a WDW resort. You need to show your member card. They can scan the band to verify where you are staying.

I usually go ahead & carry both of ours in my little Baggalini that has lots of slots. That way he still doesn't need a wallet.... I really wish they would figure out a way to tie the whole DVC membership into the magic bands so you don't have to have your cards for everything everywhere. It will never be a bag free place for me....

There are a lot of good reasons to always have photo ID on you anyway, don't know why someone wouldn't. You just never know when something might happen and the ability to prove you are who you say you are is going to save you a lot of hassle.
You are absolutely right. Also, carrying your health insurance card for the "just in case". :scared1:::yes::

I agree, I just don't get it. I never go anywhere without an ID. In WDW, you need it with the TIW card, you need it with your DVC or AP discount or perk, if you use a credit card for a purchase or meal--the CM can request a picture ID, if your MB craps out and you have to go to guest relations to check on your Admission or AP, you need an ID, if you crap out and are laying on the ground, an ID would be nice to just figure out who you are......

Without photo ID, there's no easy way for Disney to make sure YOU are the person entitled to the discounts or perks, so I see little advantage for them to use a MB to verify anything except your ticket and reservations. IMO, given the number and locations of DVC members, it would be a big hassle as well as a rather costly endeavor to issue membership cards with photos.

Usually, I can go without a bag to the parks, but we seldom travel with children these days. I try to pack only clothes with pockets for our Disney trips. I like pockets that have zippers. :)

There is, it isn't fool proof. They could use the pin that you put on the magic bands for charging. Your magic band tied to you with your pin. If you trusted someone, you could give them your band and your pin and they'd get to use the member lounge, but you'd have to trust them enough that they wouldn't rack up charges.

It also wouldn't be difficult for you to upload a photo when you put the pin on your magic band.

I was actually thinking of the fingerprint scan mechanism. That proves you are the owner of said magic band. They need a way to make portable finger scanners to go with the scanners they use on the bands.

Or they can save a ton of money and have you carry your ID which you do everyday and may need if an emergency should happen.

OK, just to be clear, I understand the ID stuff and agree completely. We will be there with our family and that will make 6 of us. If I understand it one member's card gets 4 in? So I can get my family in and my wife will need to show her ID as a member to gain access also as she will be considered a 5th person or in other words our 2 cards plus photo ID's will get us all in? Did I say that correctly...smjj

Yes. The photo ID is the most practical way for Disney to know YOU are YOU. No different from most other aspects in life.

Never leave home without photo ID & insurance cards.

I can't be the only one who has had issues with their MB not working properly when first attempting to charge some thing at the parks?

Yes, the desk handily fixed the issue when we returned to the resort, said they just reset the band whatever that meant. I was just glad we had a backup CC with us in the park.

I'm still waiting for replacement DVC cards with current expiry dates. Haven't printed off from the member site, had thought I could just sign into my DVC account and show 'proof' (or just use AP card for most things but TOTWL) if I was asked.

Do I really need to print the DVC card?

I will never understand why grown men and women think that not carrying a photo ID is somehow okay. Throw your ID, insurance card and an emergency credit card in your park bag, I SWEAR, you'll barely notice it's there! Yes, it's called Fantasyland but unless you actually live there, carry an ID.
