Be aware if traveling to WDW within the next few days

We were there from 2/28-3/7. I got a very mild stomach bug on 3/3 it ran it's course in about 48 hours. It could be the WDW bug or the Pasteurellosis infection antibiotics that I was on.

All that I do know, it is no fun being sick on vacation. I will now keep 1 bottle of coke and some bottled water in the room just in case. DH was so tired when I cried to him to please get me something to drink at 2:30 AM.

Wow I was just reading this and just noticed now the thread was started in December. I am sure its long gone by now .. that being said .. washing your hands often with soap and hot water is the best prevention as anti-bacterial wipes help but do not kill viruses.

Hoping everything is clean for when I go in 2 weeks ! lol

I was there the end of January and not one sniffle, virus, bacterial infection, staff infection, fever, runny nose, crusty eyes, cough, spider bite, rodent, bed bug or any other illness or varment did we encounter.

Oh I did sneeze once though. :rotfl2:

That is excellent. We are staying August 23-28 and pray to god we do not get sick on vaccation. We have never once gotten sick on vacation (knock on wood)

I am more than sure you will be fine. In all our trips to Disney this last one in Feb. was the only time we have been sick there. It was a super bug that hit and affected many people, it was really not the norm. I think thats why it was so note worthy here on the Dis. Just keep your hands clean, practice good hygiene and don't forget why you are there...TO HAVE FUN! :woohoo:

I know this thread is dead, but I had to add my own update since I'd been following this thread for months. My fam just got back from 4 amazing days at CSR and there was zero sign of illness at the hotel or any of the parks we visited (Hollywood, Epcot and MK). Of course, THE EVENING BEFORE we were leaving for Florida, I came down with the vomit bug. At home. Thankfully nobody else got it and they were all able to leave as scheduled (I postponed my flight one day). No Disney time was missed as we were visiting family before heading over.

Bottom line, you can get it any time, any place.

I saw this thread pop up again and I was like, argh!

As fond as I am of this thread, I think it is now officially time to break out my favorite animated gif:

Can everyone realize it's not just a Disney thing. That bug has been everywhere this past year as I'm sure it will continue to go on in the future. It's hit my family more than once and actually at Disney 1 1/2 years ago.

I wish I wasn't the one to bring this thread back to life. I'm lying in bed here @ the CR. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and 24 hours later, I actually threw up in the bushes immediately after getting off the bus from DHS to Epcot. I spent the rest of the day Fri vomiting and have been laid up in bed since. It royally sucks. I was feeling better this a.m. so I ate a light breakfast, but now I feel sick again, so I'm stuck in the room AGAIN while everyone else is @ Epcot.

We were there March 18-22, and were fine. Didn't notice anyone else being sick at any of the parks either. We stayed at POFQ. We did make sure to wash our hands frequently....before eating any meals, each time after we finished in the women's room, and any other time we thought about it. Also, anytime after handling money, I like to wash my hands.

We also put the tv remote (the one in our hotel room) in a ziploc bag during our stay. I've seem some programs where they point out that the remote in a hotel room, is probably the dirtiest and possibly most germ-infected thing in the room.

Oh my God-Can we end this thread somehow?????!!!!! It was started in Dec. Come on people.

Just to put this into perspective:
Babson College [in Wellesley, MA] was closed at 5 p.m. yesterday [3/28/2009] due to an outbreak of the norovirus gastrointestinal illness.

About 100 students have fallen ill since Wednesday. The decision to close the school was made after a spike in the number of cases of the virus among students, said Dr. Marcia Testa-Simonson, vice chairwoman of the Wellesley Board of Health.

Sympathies to those still suffering, but it's not a Disney thing.

I usually click on this thread when I see it, because I can't believe it's still going, and I'm curious to see what others have posted.:rotfl2:

Im sure everyone realises its not just a disney thing, it just so happened to have made some serious rounds thru disney this season and many of us spent our vacations and our hard earned $$ vomitting and miserable while vacationing at disney and not out park touring and have a good time.

Those who had a sick free vacation have a different view of this thread than those of us who actually spent a good portion of their vacation ill. :rolleyes1

Those of us who had an ill-free vacation thank those of you who warned us to be careful. :thumbsup2

Just got back from a stay at the French Quarter....2of us got the bug. Didn't ruin the trip....but put a damper on a day or so.

Yes, there is a stomach virus affecting many areas including outside the U.S. The incubation period is anwhere from 12 hours to 2 days. Bleach is the best and maybe the only common household use item to kill it. That being said, your common household wipes do NOT contain bleach. Look closely, they will say bleach-free. Hopefully the staff in the resturants are not working sick and are washing their hands well. The best thing you can do is wash your hands and not touch your face with your hands. This is spread by touching. It is also spread by aerosol of vomit. So if someone is getting sick near you, you can breath in the aerosol and get sick. :crazy2:sick:

Also some people are not showing immunity to the virus and are getting sick more than once. This can also hit you hard and fast. It will usually only last 24-48 hours, but has been known to last longer for some.

Moral to the story? Wash your hands and don't touch your face. Hopefully there is an end to the bug soon. It is one thing to have a cold when you are at Disney, but when you have diarrhea and vomiting, well that is something in itself.

Yup. My poor husband had to sprint from our table at the California Grill so he could vomit Exorcist-style in the men's room. :sad2: He blamed it on the Ugly Betty Cheeseburger he ate earlier that day at the ABC Commissary, but I think it was the virus. By the time our entrees arrived, he was green at the gills and we had no choice but to pay our check and leave. He got his filet to go and it was still in the fridge at WL when we checked out yesterday. What a waste.
If I were he I would have sat out in the lobby and let the family enjoy the dinners. Heck they could even cut up my fish filet and share it among themselves.

Once I was with a club tour and we went to a restaurant and I got sick (actually I already had the bad cold) and did just that, sit out in the lobby. One of the club chairpersons urged me to take a taxi back to the hotel but when I said he or the club would have to pay the fare, he quieted down and I just waited for everyone else and the tour bus.

Over the past few years there have been several reports of Norwalk or other illness spreading through cruise ships and cruise operators wiping railing with disinfectant. Is Disney wiping down railings, turnstile finger scanners, door handles, ride safety bars, etc?

Disney hints: http://www.cockam.com/disney.htm

Sitting in a restaurant lobby while afflicted with constant vomiting and diarrhea isn't that good an idea. Ca. Grill really doesn't have a separate lobby to sit in.

I and my DD are members of the "recently got sick at Disney club" (Jan 9, 09)and definately can tell you that we did wash our hands and were very aware of trying not to catch that bug due to knowing about it in advance from this thread, did fine for 9 days and then BAM! It lasted 4 days for us. That is one bad bug and I pity anyone who was placed in our room at POR after us cause that was one infected room...we had to send the boys back to PA ahead of us in the car while we stayed an extra day in that room and flew home. We left a note for the mousekeeper and a very good tip hoping that she would get that room disinfected properly after we left.
My sympathies to all who get that bug. Sure any of us could get it at anytime away or at home and I sure hope that poster was wrong when he said it can hit us again cause that is NOT something I want a second time.
