Be aware if traveling to WDW within the next few days

We just got back yesterday after staying at SSR from 1/28-1/25. I had been following this thread since it began and was very worried that there was no way to avoid this virus and that people would be vomiting everywhere in the parks and at the resorts. Only on our last day did I see a cast member cleaning up vomit on one of The Land ride boats. I did spray our room with Lysol (which I would do anyways, regardless of this thread) and we used hand sanitizer regularly which I know will not kill the virus, but makes me feel better. We were some of the lucky ones and did not get sick, but I think I would have been better off if I did not read all of this, because it truly was not in my control if we got sick or not and I would hope that nobody cancels a trip over this. WDW is a huge place and with that many people in the same area at one time I am sure there is always some kind of virus going around on any given day of the year.

Just my thoughts,
Lisa

You could pick up the exact same virus at the library, grocery store, gas station, etc.

Go on your vacation and have a good time, wash your hands, use your sanitizing gel, and have a great time (until/if/when you catch the bug).

Gee, thats inspirational

There is a nasty, nasty stomach bug that is plaguing many of the resorts. I am no Pollyanna, and know that there is a high possibility of catching a stray bug at WDW due to the sheer volume of people......but this bug is highly contagious and had all the CM's and resort employees talking. Most seemed to think it was the Norwalk virus.

It took my family out one by one during our 8 night stay. It came on viciously and violently. It started out with nausea and then forceful vomiting and diarreah for about 8 hours. It was so bad that all of us had accidents and could not make it to the bathroom (to vomit) at least a few times. The staff at the YC and BC were wonderful and told us that they and SSR had been hit the hardest. There were literally guests puking outside of the resort, in the food courts and bathrooms!

Just wanted to put this PSA out here for the DISers. Just remember to wash, wash, WASH your hands while down there!! Oh, and I pity the family that was assigned our room after we left....:scared:

Norovirus (or Norwalk virus) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norovirus plaguing here (PA and probably everywhere). 3-4 nurses on my unit got it and we have several patients (I work in ICU) who are very sick with it. Yuck, yuck, yuck!!!

Sorry you got stuck with a bug on your dis vacation, what a bummer!

Take care of you and yours.

We were at wdw 1/18-1/24:

I was fine all week, until.....
I woke up last Thursday (1/22) feeling a little sick to my stomach....went to DHS and by 1pm I was feeling like the only relief would be to throw up and I did. I went to the first aid and was given a 'just in case' bag and we decided to go back to the hotel around 2:30pm....on the bus I put that bag to use and it wasn't pretty. I was getting sick while walking to our room :crazy2: I couldn't eat anything and was almost unable to move. Friday I felt better and we went to AK, moved slowly and constantly felt sick to my stomach. We left on Saturday to drive home, still feeling sick and having naseau (spelling?) In the car, I found another bag and used that, really never a fever, couldn't eat, didn't want to eat. Finally on Wednesday I could start tasting food again, yesterday I was normal, but I still have that sick to the stomach feeling on and off throughout the day, even now. I lost 8lbs in 5 days, not a diet that I would do again :rotfl2: We washed hands, used hand sanitizer etc, and luckily I was the only one who became sick. Don't know what it was, but I don't want it again, it was horrible.

The only time I witnessed a guest getting sick last week was a little boy barfing after eating some ice cream at MK. His parents were getting themselves Dole Whips, and the boy (who already had an ice cream) started heaving, so momma held him over a trash can and apologized the whole time. Looked like a case of too many goodies/too much excitement and not a stomach virus.

I agree with PPs - just wash your hands or use sanitizer before eating, and don't touch your mouth/face. But, that is just good advice no matter where you are.

We stayed at WL 1/14-1/21 and my family of 3 all got this virus. Revisting all of the disgustingly graphic details won't help anyone. I'll just say that this was the single worst stomach virus any of us have suffered through. (My 9 yr. old daughter vomitted 14 times in a ten hour period. We finally took her to a dr. and got medication stop the vomitting)

I had read the "rumors" before we left home, so we were extra cautious and super diligent with hand washing and sanitizing, but still got it.

This was my 9th trip to Disney, and it may very possibly be the last. I don't know if I could ever summon up the strength to go back after what we experienced on the worst vacation ever.

We were there for 7 days last week into this week. None of us got sick.

I didn't see anyone sick or any signs of sickness/vomit, etc, though I was half expecting it after following this thread. I thought the bathrooms - and all of Disney for that matter - was pretty clean, actually.

I didn't go crazy with sanitizer or anything, either, just mainly good hand washing and made sure my kids, especially, understood not to put their hands near their mouths or faces. (I think this is harder to do with younger kids.)

Sorry for those who experienced illness. :guilty: Hope everyone with upcoming trips enjoys themselves and stays healthy!

that is awful!! so sorry you have a bad trip..i can understand why you don't want to go back...to many bad memories. take care. :grouphug:

We are a family of 3 who stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge from 1/24-1/31 and none of us got the virus. We did not eat at any buffets. I wiped our room down with Clorox wipes and was a freak about handwashing/hand sanitizer to the point of driving my family crazy! Seriously, before any food was touched by our fingers and put into our mouths I made everyone sanitize their hands!!!! I also did not have housekeeping clean our room during our stay as well. I did not notice any vomit anywhere at WDW. We did see an ambulances outside the AKL on 2 different occasions and wasn't sure what that was about but was sure hoping it was nothing serious!

We just returned yesterday, a week at Beach Club for 11 of us (5 rooms). We came in on different flights but those who came in together on a flight from LAX with the barfing kid on the plane (the kid was vomiting before the plane ever left the ground so they assumed he was sick before boarding) all got very sick and stayed sick throughout most of the week. Lets just say there were lots of meal credits left on these deluxe dining plans. :rotfl:

We returned home on 1/29. No illness though we had a scare when we got to our room at WL to find a very wet spot on the carpet that smelled vaguely of Sprite and vomit. (This was after we waited until after 5 p.m. for our room to be ready). Manager sent a guy to check it out. He spent time examining, smelling and feeling the spot and determined that Mousekeeping had used some cleaner on it that cleans up organic stains (and has a lemon scent) but hadn't dried it properly. So, they cleaned and dried the carpet again while we waited.

I cleaned the rest of the room with chlorox wipes, really went over everything carefully.

Every day I expected the vomiting to start. I think we dodged a huge bullet. (I wondered if we're immune to this precise strain - we contracted noro on another vacation so I've done my time vomiting in hotel rooms!)

There was a little girl on our DME bus going home who was clearly ill.

While this seems to have gone away by recent reports, I wanted to update with the following story from my trip 2/1-2/3.

On Monday 2/2, I was sitting on the bus talking to a family from New Jersey. They were telling me about how they had been in the world a week and were leaving the next day, how they lost about two days of their vacation because they "thought they were food poisoned". Their little girl and the mother were both sick for "24 hours" according to them. It sounded very much like this virus, so I mentioned it to them and told them it might not have been food poisoning at all.

They were staying at POFQ (where I also stayed). I didn't encounter anyone else who mentioned being sick.

Just back last night from a ten day stay and didn't see any signs of illness anywhere.

We were at the WL from 1/23 to 1/28. We completely cleaned our rooms with Clorox wipes upon arrival on Friday. Saturday night I started getting abdominal cramps and lower intestinal unpleasantness and nausea. I was up all night, but managed to keep it at bay with over the counter meds. I slept in the next morning and eventually met my family in the MK. Needless to say, I never really felt well the rest of the trip. I had severe nausea off and on, although I managed never to vomit. I just had my first compeltely nausea free day on Sunday Feb. 1st. I definitely had something. Was it Noro - who knows? I managed to enjoy our trip and rode things like Peter Pan and Small World rather than Space Mountain. I'm very glad no one else in my party caught it. But from what I hear, this bug is everywhere.

We were there from 1/22 - 1/26 at POR. Never saw anyone getting sick, and other than DH having a queasy stomach/shakes during our last night, we were all fine. We don't think he had the virus - he is diabetic and had a salad the day before at LeCellier that came with the salad dressing already on it, and we think it may have been the cause of his problem. Also, right after lunch that day he and DD went on Mission Space, so that may have done it, too.:confused3

I brought all of the supplies (wipes, hand sanitizers, OTC meds, etc) and the only thing we used all week was (LOTS) of Advil and a few Pepto tablets for DH. Oh, and we did 3 buffets during the week. Good luck!
