My DS8 is having a few boys from school over Saturday for a birthday party. This is my first one. What do 8 year old boys like to do at parties? Are they too old for games? They want to play the Wii I know and maybe watch a movie. Of course we're having cake and pizza, but I didn't know if I should have anything structured planned for them to do. Moms, what's your advice?

last year when my DS turned 7, he had an all boy party. I think it was something like 13 boys. I envisioned them nicely playing some games like hot potato, etc. The first 5 arrived and they were like wildmen!! It was summer vacation, so they hadn't seen each other in awhile, so they were very excited. We did have a scientist performing experiments, but his time went by so quickly (it seemed!!)

My friend had an all boy party later, but did an Indiana Jones theme with lots of actvities in the backyard....digging for bones in a sandbox, wrapping each other up like mummies with toilet paper, finding snakes in the wilderness. Hers went MUCH better. Plan more activities than you think you can do, so if they go fast, you have something else to keep them occupied. The problem with playing Wii is only a couple can play (unless it's only a couple of kids invited.)

My daughter's party was a few days after my sons (triplets...had their first and only solo parties last year) and I had tons of games/activities planned for hers, and we never got to everything. If you can be outside, all the better!!

Have fun!!

I was thinking maybe as Easter egg hunt with prizes inside some of the eggs.

What other games would be good? Do kids still play pin the tail on the donkey?

Just posted on another thread on this.

DD will be 8...party also Sat.

I'm doing:

Pinata - boys love this too! What boy doesn't love waving a stick around. LOL!

Pass the Present - Dollar Store gifts wrapped. Play music. Stop music...whoever is holding present backs out of circle and keeps it. When they all have a gift then they open them.

Musical Chairs, Pin Tail on the Donkey

Helium Tank from Walmart - balloons with strings. Punching balloons for them to play with. Will play pop the balloon games too.

Hope this helps! Have a great time!

Did you find a Pin the Tail on the Donkey game somewhere, or did you make your own?

I think I'll do the pinata too.

Pass the present sounds good also.

Thanks for the hints.
