BCV - The good and the bad (no Gellato)

Arrived yesterday and am in room 240 (Studio).

The Good

Was greeted at the front entrance by a castmember saying Welcome home Mr. Contino! My jaw dropped to the floor - How did she know?
Checkin was fine and the room was immaculate - redone with a flat screen. Very nice accomodations. Very comfortable bed.

The Bad

Went to the market place to find out they no longer make and sell their World famous Gellato. Totally Crushed!!!

They now sell gellato in a pre packaged container made by someone else. Gone are the days of ordering gellato in scoops and mixing and matching flavors and trying samples. There are only three flavors now in a very small cup (the same price as the larger size BCV used to sell).

No more lemon, rasberry, vanilla, pistaccio and all the unique flavors they would make. Only frozen Mango, Cookies & Creen & chocolate made by an Orlando company. And they told me it defifntely tastes different.

When I asked why, they said they needed more room for other products like pastries. After all they have been selling the Gellato for 4 years, time to have something else. I'm bummed!!! I'm selling my membership!!

OHHHHH....I was SO looking forward to that this summer. I figured I would starve myself for a week before going so I could eat it.

I suppose the next thing you’re going to tell me is that they expanded the arcade into the space previously occupied by Beaches and Cream.

OMG, no more gelato! When Mom and Dad were there in March, they were told the gelato maker was broken. I was hopeful for a return of gelato, but this is terrible news.

Oh that is not such good news as I was just drooling over the gelato pictures just a few days ago. We will be staying at BCV for the first time in a few weeks. Any other tips you could pass along would be great (keep posting!)... THANKS!

I think the fact you could use a snack credit for Gelato is what did it in

I guess you will have to settle for a Dole Whip in adventureland for a special treat!
I would like to see the Arcade moved and Beaches N Cream Expanded.
I enjoy getting Creme Brulee' from the Patisseree in France.(do so every trip!) Fulton's does a good chocolate Creme Brulee too.

I am sad over the gelato. We enjoyed getting some with the kids on both trips we've had to BCV. I guess I'm one of those people that don't like it when things change. If it means they're using the space to improve the other offerings in the Marketplace (like more made to order food), then I'm okay with it. If it's to put in a case of plastic-wrapped pastries and things, then not so much.

Either way - I will miss that.

My DD will be sad about the gelato, too. I can see her jaw drop now. Change is hard. Has it really only been 5 years? I thought they reconfigured the store in the first year or so of BCV.

How nice to be greeted by name. That happened to me at BCV when I used online checkin.

This is a sad day indeed. On our walk back from Illuminations to BWV a stop for gelato was a must. No more raspberry/chocolate or raspberry/mango combos. I'm in a really bad place right now.

I also loved the pistachio. Somehow, I never really took to any other flavors. But about the same time they discontinued pistachio gelato, they started the movies on the beach. Now I have a new love. They'd better not discontinue those! Come to think of it, corpcomp, you have mentioned those-are they still doing the movies on the beach there? And if it rains, do they still move them into the Solarium?

I was there last month and they still move the movies to the Solarium. Then again, they had the gelato when I was there last month. There was a lady working there from Egypt who kept giving us overflowing gelato cups. She was wonderful.....

Every year after tax season my DH and I head to DW for some R&R. The first thing we MUST do,for DH, is go to the Beach Club Marketplace for gelato. Don't pass go-don't check in-don't collect $1000 [well maybe we'd collect the $$] go straight to BCV for gelato! We'd sit on the patio outside. My DH would mmmmm with every spoonfull. No it's not the animals from Animal Kingdom you are hearing it's him with his gelato. Some accountants have a drink after taxes-he has gelato!!!! Now what? The Mickey ice cream pops just won't cut it. Should I break it to him gently on the plane-or better yet I'll wait till we are on the Magical Express where he will have a DW support group.

I think this is a great story to share with management. They truly dont understand that many of our experiences are enhanced because of the food.
Have they ever heard of "Food Family Fun"!
We stayed at BCV in March and after a few sub par choices from the bakery selections (The cupcakes were "gross" according to both my Ds's) we turned to the gelato and enjoyed a unique experience.
Now they are expanding the packaged bakery and snack items and taking away another unique offering.

If I wanted dry packaged cakes and pies, I have a day old bread store down the street that sells them 5/$1.
The lemonade cups dont compare either. They are a syrupy mess!

Too funny! We had it once and I guess that's going to have to do it! Some of the special things that made each resort different in their own special ways are being replaced with more generic choices, rather than original. Unfortunately, I think it has a lot to do with the all mighty buck!
