BCV - so disappointed!

Just got back from BCV and have to say very dispapointed this year. This was our third trip. We had to refuse 3 rooms before we were offered anything suitable. We are three adults and a child and stay in a studio which has always been adequate before. We stayed for 19 nights and were offered a ground floor room with patio which would not have been safe for our child; two handicapped rooms which had huge bathrooms but no wardrobe space at all (remember 4 people - 19 nights!!! ).

The front desk staff told us that they had no information about wardrobe space in rooms and only had a very poor diagram. We felt it was impossible for them to allocate correct rooms for guests needs without adequate information. We asked a DVC manager about this and pointed out that maybe it was a training issue. No one seemed particularly bothered.

Also, there were two cupborad doors hanging off and a damaged towel rail in the room we eventually accepted - I think they eventually wore us down.

How disappointing it all was and it really spoilt what should have been our exciting "moving back home" day.

During the course of our stay we noticied that there were broken loo doors on site, dirty floor in the loos, no loo roll, very off hand staff and a general air of "don't care"

It made us quite sad as we love our Disney home but are now considering selling our points.

Was the first room acceptable except for the fact it was on the first floor?

Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. I've never really thought about how much drawer space they had. Not sure I would sell my points after 1 trip, how were your other 2 trips?

So are you saying that if you get a handicapped or modified handicapped room that you don't get space for clothes that you would get in a nonmodified room? I am :confused3. Don't the doors on the ground floor have locks like those on upper floors?? What is to prevent a child from going out the door on say the 3rd floor and be out on the balcony with chairs they could climb on. :scared1: I think I would have accepted the first room if that was the only thing that prevented you from taking it.

Hmm, seems a bit drastic to me. Sorry everything didn't go as you wanted during your trip.

I absolutely LOVED BCV when we stayed there in July. I know if you are going to sell those PREMO POINTS.....they will be snapped up so fast.....someone else will be thrilled to get them. I think you need to think long and hard about that transaction. ;)

Where have you stayed before that worked fine? Because don't go to AKV. Even I noticed that the current studios have NO "wardrobe" space. Granted neither my boyfriend or I bought a lot of stuff (we are carryon packers) so it was fine.

Personally I think the front desk bent over backwards.... You had one room with the storage you needed, but you didn't like the location. Yes, the handicapped accessible rooms have less storeage, but the very fact that they had that many rooms to show you is amazing! Generally BCV is pretty full....

I am not going to try to convince you to keep your points. My view is that if one expereince you don't like has this type of "effect" you probably should sell. You are looking for something they probably can't provide. (And I won't be at all surprised if you find PMs today from posters going "what use year and how much" I once posted that I was thinking of selling some points and got about four PMs on this LOL! I did NOT sell!)

Sorry you had a disapointing stay.....hopefully you will give it another try.

Why wasn't the ground floor room safe?

We just stayed a week in a ground floor (we have kids) and loved it. I'd much rather be on the ground.

I also agree ground floor is no less safe than a floor with a balcony with regards to a young child, as a young child needs to be watched where ever they are. I thought the handicap rooms must have some wardrobe space?

Claire ;)

Maybe packing less and making use of the free washers and dryers would help some of the space issues.

I would never, ever sell my points after just one bad experience! It would take years and years of abuse to for me to let those bad boys go!! ;)

I would NEVER try to stay that long in a studio with that many people!:scared1: I'm not surprised you thought it was inadequate.

If you truly feel it is no longer a good value, then by all means, you SHOULD sell. I would be hard pressed to find the same accommodations for the money though, short of staying off-site. Perhaps it is more that you are just tired of visiting Disney.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. I think that we all have things that we are comfortable with and some we are not. I know that we do our best NOT to receive a handicapped room. Just doesn't work for us, no storage in the bath, have had issues with the floor flooding and no safe. Hope you can look beyond this and give the BCV and DVC another chance. As for staying that long in a studio, it is a way to get more bang(days) for your buck. We usually stay in a one-bedroom with 4 and I still have stuff everywhere. I like to have "choices" in my wardrobe.:rotfl:

We also just came back from BCV. I can empathize a bit with you. This is also our favourite home resort. We have always asked for top floor or upper floor and usually get it. (I'm not implying that I should always get it). In the past, they had offered me a room and if I asked if there were any upper floor rooms left, they have always been able to get me one without a problem. This time, nope. They said that the rooms are all full. I guess I was a little disappointed with the room that we got. It was on the second floor overlooking the road and nothing else and a times, early in the morning I can hear trucks/beeping noises (i'm a light sleeper). I never thought of requesting a view before because we had alway gotten a woodsview which was fine and quiet (I think a lot asks for Epcot view, so we end up with the other side...not a problem.) However, we don't stay in the room too long so it wasn't too big of an issue. I guess I was just disappointed as well with the overall feeling on this vacation. But I have to be honest and say it did not have anything to do with the room location or view or shape of the room (it was fine, not great, but fine...housekeeping also was generous with the towels and even did some towel animals so that was nice.)

I can also emphathize about the storage space. We go for 14 nights and I find even in the one bedrooms, the drawer spaces a little lacking for a family of 4 (2ad and 2 ch). I usually unpack only what can fit and then unpack some more in the middle of our vacation.

Seriously, no flames intended here but I hope even you can appreciate the disconnect between these two statements. Most of your post is spent detailing the ordeal of being assigned FOUR different rooms before finding something that you felt was acceptable...and then you question why the staff might be a little grumpy.

I realize that certain aspects of the room were important to you, but the same can be said for every single one of us. Yet there are times we must make compromises.

Can you imagine the chaos and frustration among CMs if every single guest returned to the front desk 3 and 4 times before finding something they liked?

If the OP wasn't happy, respect their feelings and desires. If Disney isn't able to make our vacations magical, no matter what our expectations are, then it's time to sell and move on.

I don't know about BCV but the HA studios in BWV have a small wardrobe instead of a closet. It is crammed full since it is also used to store the ironing board, pack'n'play and vacuum cleaner. So you either have no space to hang clothes or you have to unload all that stuff and stash it in the corner of your room and look at it every day (not very magical looking at a vacuum cleaner and ironing board all week!) There is no wall safe. That is usually in the closet so I guess no closet means no safe. (Don't know why there wasn't some other wall space they could have used.) And there is just a tiny amount of storage space in the bathroom since there is no vanity. You get a very small shelf above the sink that was just deep enough to hold a glass and not very wide.

So if the HA studios in BCV are anything like the one we stayed in at BWV, it really would not be a pleasant room for such a long stay. I'm hoping that since I took my turn, I won't have to stay in another one for a while!

I have to agree. When we book at each resort we have to be aware that certain rooms have different amenities. CMs try to do the best in accommodating guests needs but you can't make all the people happy all the time. I can see if there are cleanliness issues with a room but because it doesn't have enough storage room isn't exactly management's fault. I have to agree with others in that I do not understand why the first room was not a good choice for a group with a small child. It certainly is safer than a room with a balcony.

Sorry OP that your vacation was not as magical as you had hoped.

If Disney isn't able to make our vacations magical, no matter what our expectations are, then it's time to sell and move on.

Unfortunately there are still practical limitations to the "magic" Disney is able to dole out.

If 100 arriving guests request an "Epcot View" and only 20 rooms meet that criteria, 80 are not going to get that dose of "magic." If I arrive to check-in and my top priority is to be in-and-out quickly, I'm not going to be pleased to find a line 30 people deep--particularly if many are shaking their fists at CMs over the "inadequate" views/locations they were already assigned.

If OP does choose to sell over this incident, that is his/her prerogative. But I also think this is a good occasion to remind the hundreds of others reading this post that the little bit of "magic" we call DVC room requests are never guaranteed.

Anyone going into DVC with the assumption that they can request a room change--even one time, much less three--is ultimately going to be disappointed. If there are prospective members with similar expectations, perhaps we can save them the aggravation of buying in the first place.
