BCV Furniture in disrepair

I am planning on staying at BCV in 11/05 with guests that have never been to WDW, I figured what better way to give them the ultimate experience then by staying in the heart of the magic over at the BCV's. I have to be honest after BCV has been getting beat up pretty good the last few weeks I am a little hesistant about making reservations and getting a unit that is not up to par. Amazingly, OKW is about 13-14yrs old and we have never had ONE issue there with the condition of our unit. Like its been said I am sure there is a happy story for every poor story posted and then some. Lets hope the staff can get these snags out soon so we can all enjoy the resort to the fullest.

Regards,
Vince

I stayed in BCV and OKW last fall. The BCV studio was in very good shape and we saw no problems. The OKW 1BR looked worn and the tiles on the base of the whirlpool tub were loose and falling off. So I'm sure it's the luck of the draw. But I think the point is that if people would treat these units like they were living in their own home, we wouldn't have units falling in disrepair so quickly. When we stay in any hotel or condo, we take care to leave it in the same shape it was when we arrived.

Couple of the drawers just fell apart! We called, but all they did was just snap them together. No glue, no nails. So the next time you'd open the drawer, Just a pile of drawer parts again.

Hope we never see this.

For sale fixer upper.

Either BCV was built on the cheap or we have the same situation that was at BWV. The contractor cheated and DVC had to get it corrected.

Also remember the fold up beds going into the dedicated 2 bdrm.

I truly think that so many people want to stay at this resort because of SAB that the resort just takes a pounding from all the little kid and the non little kids. I agree that the mousecleaning staff needs to report the damage after a guest exits the room.
::yes::

I posted a thread on this when we returned from our stay in March. I was very annnoyed with some of the damage that we found including magic marker marks on the couch, kitchen seating area and the king bed. I think that a fee should be imposed for anything beyond normal wear and tear. If they let their kids do this kind of damage they should have to pay a for the amount of the damage. This was in a 2 bedroom on the fourth floor. It is a shame! We take very good care of our"home" and have always watched our children. I think a lot of parents let their kids go wild in resorts. I have seen it time and again in the hotels we stay in. Adults are careless too and they should obviously be responsible for their own damage.

We've been to BCV (1BR units) in March and May of this year. In March, there were crayon marks over the coffee table as well as kitchen table, and dents where paint has been chipped off; about stroller level. The finish on the kitchen table was about worn off. Yes, I did report the damage. Our unit in May also had the dents.

I would guess there has been alot of occupancy at this resort, partly out of curiosity because it was the newest to open (up until SSR) and because of Stormalong Bay. But personaly, I will not be happy if my maintenance dues keep going up & up to handle this kind of damage. It's frustrating. Do people treat their own homes this way? Wish there was a solution.

does anyone remember if Disney sued the contractor for the Boardwalk??

I'm not trying to be picky, but how do you know it was a child?

True and I also want to know how you "split coffee".

A cleaning deposit for above and beyond sounds good. However how do you implement it?

This is a tough one!!

Do you think if you 'split' the coffee, you can take the heavily concentrated caffeine and just inject it into your veins? I want to try that!

I also want to know what a child is doing with a KNIFE?! YIKES!

Gonna take a wild guess and say the damage is probably from renters or those, just that booked through Disney for a few nights. And although they too paid a good amount of money, their thoughts are probably, "what do we care". They may not ever stay again.

As a renter, I truly resent that remark. I would never disrespect anyone's property and I can assure you that my thoughts are nowhere near "what do I care".

Yes, I agree. I rented before becoming an owner.

Many comments such as the one you pointed out are just hasty generalizations. Very bad critical thinking skills.

I believe they went bankrupt. In any case, the members were not charged for the repainting, DVC said.

I really don't think the problems at BCV can be traced to Stormalong Bay attracting kids. All the DVC resorts have lots of kids. I think it's the longer stays and the high occupancy at all the resorts. There isn't much downtime to go into a unit and repair every item. Drawers falling apart should be repaired immediately (assuming someone reports it so they are aware of it). Things like crayon marks I don't think are a high priority.

ITA, blaming it on renters is just plain silly. Some people are just thoughtless regardless of the label "renter" or "member".

I think anything that takes away from the appearance of the unit should be addressed. Crayon marks, ice cream smudges on the windows, dust on the tiles, etc. detract from the "home away from home" aspect of DVC. Don't know about anyone else, but, smudgy windows, dusty tiles, sticky floors, and crayon marks send me up the wall.

It's simply down to the number of people who just don't care about anything that doesn't belong to them. Whether it's from a poor upbringing or whatever, it's just down to a lack of respect.

I operate a dealership service department. The tech's own thousands of $$$ worth of tools and massive tool boxes. The tools are cleaned & put away in specific locations, their tool boxes are shiny'er then most cars.If a tool happens to break, they see the vender ASAP and have it repaired or replaced.

The dealership also supplies 10's of thousands of $$$ worth of tools. They are almost never put back where they belong. The only time I know they are broken is when the NEXT guy needs to use it, (so who suffers ? the customer whose truck can't be fixed) and they are the dirtiest tools in the shop.

It amazes me when I see and read about some of the room conditions. Do we treat our own homes the same way ? Do we throw out ruined sofas and coffee tables every couple of years ? Are all our walls scuffed & knicked ? Hopefully the answer is "Yes" , because at least it means you're consistant. I'd hate to think members actually act differently in their "home away from home" then they do in their real home.

The other items I agree with you. I don't know how hard it is to get crayon off furniture, but that sounds like a more time consuming process that maybe overlooked in the race to get rooms ready for the next guest.

I would rather have to wait until 3pm or 4pm (whenever checkin is) if that meant that the villa was properly cleaned and necessary repairs were made than be able to checkin early and not have the room detailed.

Debbie,
Not to be contrary, but, I do feel that perhaps they need to slow down a bit and make the members/guests realize that checkin is AFTER 4pm. Personally, I don't enjoy cleaning my bathroom, cleaning the floor, taking an inventory, making the call at OKW.
Damn it, I am on vacation, these items should escape my notice because there are not issues.
Lately, it has been no more "MS nice person" I call and I complain and I expect action, and, trust me, I get it. I am extreamly nice and have learned honey works.
