We attended the VWL meeting this morning. As usual, the first 15-20 minutes were the scripted (REALLY!!) Board of Directors and 'Members' Annual meertings. This portion of the session is basically to get the legal stuff taken care of. Since we as members, 'assign' our right to DVCMC to vote for us, the member's rep places the vote FOR everything being voted upon.
They then go into a
DVC and VWL update. The new Sr. VP (oops, forgot his name) was there and ran all the meetings. He referred to DVC as a 'product' a few times and READ a scripted update about the new Intrawest locations, member cruise, SSR progress and the 'few'(my opinion) discounts available to members. I attended a meeting 2 years ago and felt Mr. Augel to be more warm and friendly. The new guy read a script and seemed a bit uninformed, but that may be expected with someone new.
Members posed a few questions. A few members asked questions about having the ability to CONFIRM a non-smoking accommodation. It seems that it is now only a request and not a guarantee. The VWL Mgr. stated that about 95% of the rooms are non-smoking but that they do not have the ability to confrim at this time. Furthermore, he stated that they 'will work with anyone' to make sure the medical needs are met. Other members echoed the desire to have confirmation of a non-smoking room prior to arrival.
Another subject that was brought up was member discounts. The women who presents the budget stated that she has been 'trying to convince' their colleagues in the 'other' Disney departments to offer us discounts. She stated that they are 'really, really trying' but presently are falling on deaf ears, but hope to have better news in the future.
Some folks asked about internet reservations. It was stated that DVC has a lot of work to do to get to that point. BUT, they do hope to have some type of account management functions available on the web by 2005 and reservation ability in later years. IMO: That's a bit late and sad given the ability of technology today and the forward thinking technical ability of a company like Disney (Just my opinion!!)
I'm sure there were other things that I missed, but that's what I think are the high points.
