BCV and BWV availability summer 2018 and 2019?

We are now on the school calendar, so our WDW trips are primarily in June or July. We are currently planning trips for late July 2018 and early to mid-June 2019. Our home resort is AKV, which we love staying at, but we have had good luck getting several days in a 1BR at BCV the past couple of years, which has been fun given the pool and park access. The views -- meh. I am just curious if people think 7-month availability in the summer will change much for Epcot area resorts with Toy Story Land in 2018 and Star Wars Land in 2019. 1BR villas have generally been easy to get in the summer right at 7 months. We will likely need 2BRs for one or both trips. We would be more than happy at AKV, but wouldn't mind BWV for one of the stays. After 2 summers at BCV I'm actually ready for something other than there.

Thoughts on the impact of those changes at HS on summer Epcot area resort availability?

I think that both Epcot-area DVC resorts will be very difficult to book in the year following the opening of Star Wars Land. Toy Story Land will not be as big but will have about the same impact as what Pandora is having on AKV. However, I expect that with Riviera opening in the fall of 2019 (projected opening) and Star Wars Land opening 5/4/19 (Star Wars Day), Riviera could very well absorb some of the demand after the summer, depending on how many villas are declared by DVD at opening. For June 2019, I have a feeling that if you don't own at BWV or BCV, you're shouldn't pin your hopes on getting a reservation at either resort at 7 months.

Summer has never been all that busy for DVC, not like the Disney Resorts. Just book your home resort early and try to switch at 7 mo. BCV will be harder to get. Better pool and many less units.

It is questionable that the opening of the new attractions at Studios will result in a change in demand patterns for the Epcot DVC resorts. Typically in the past, such has not occurred due to the additon of rides and other attractions, e.g., the opening of the new Fanatasyland areas, including the addition of Seven Dwarfs, at MK resulted in some early demand increases at all WDW DVC resorts but basic patterns for BLT and other DVC resorts remained the same; likewise, I have not seen any real changes in demand patterns for AKV because of Pandora. The fact is, no matter where you are staying, you can get to Studios without much of a hassle. This is not like adding Food & Wine, where being able to quickly walk back to your resort at closing time after a full day of Food & particularly Wine has been something factored into the choice of resort.

Summer is not DVC's high demand time, and all of July after about July 6 or 7 is actually one of the lowest DVC demand times of the year at WDW. Mid-June is also not a real high demand time but it has traditionally been one of the higher times during DVC's low to moderate season that runs from the Monday after Marathon weekend in january to late September. Based on existing patterns, you will likely find BWV pool/garden view 2BRs open either of the times you mention. BCV 2BRs are more iffy, particular for that June time. The 1BRs at BCV or BWV (including even standard and boardwalk view at BWV) also should have a good chance of being open.

Thanks. This is kind of my thinking too, after being around these boards for a few years. I have seen some posts that indicate some folks may be saving points for the opening of these lands. I doubt there are many. It seems like many DVC'ers are set in their patterns of point usage. We're stuck in the summer, spring break or Christmas break mode for 7 more years. And I won't go during Christmas break! (Although we will be there one night pre-DCL on 12/29 and plan to do a CP dinner at Epcot). I have been somewhat surprised at the relative ease of getting 1 and 2BR villas at BCV and BWV in the summer over the past 3-4 years; even stays of 6-9 nights.

As BillPA mentioned, we will likely book at AKV first and then switch once the 7 month window opens. If we HAD to stay at AKV, it wouldn't bother me one bit --- love that place!

Already booked my apr/may trip and my June trip. All at the Bwv. Actually thinking of switching our June trip to kidani (for that extra full bath). Lol

I just booked July 1 to 4 at BWV. It's a friend's milestone birthday and we really want Poly but I booked BWV (my home resort) as a backup. Will try for Poly at 7 months, we already have the 2 nights before on cash.

I don't know that New Fantasyland or Pandora had much impact, but I also do not think these are great indicators of impact when DHS finishes the two expansions. I think with the expansions, and the gondola and work on CBR/Pop, we may be about to see a rate jump at the Epcot-area resorts, including CBR. Meanwhile, points per night for studios at BWV and BCV will stay fairly stable. Even at $18-20/point, rentals of those units will be far cheaper than booking a Disney unit at BWI/BC/YC, and hard to call what rates will look like at CBR, Pop and even AOA once the gondola is a thing.

So we may see a rise in summer rental demand.
