BBB worth the $

My daughter is 3 almost 4. I have a reservation for BBB but she is not crazy about getting her hair done. I am wondering if I should wait until she is older to go have a princess makeover based on the prices

We did it when DD was 5 and she loved it. They do have to pull A LOT on their hair for the Cinderella do, so if you think she won't like that, I would wait.

We did it when my daughter was 6. She liked it, but I don't think it was worth the money. She didn't go totally crazy over it like I thought she would. She is 10 now and is not interested in it this time.

My DD never would have wanted to do that, but every girl is different (I would say it's a minority that do, but those that do obviously LOVE it!). She also didn't like having her hair done, so it would have been torture to her!

I met one really sweet mom at Disney once, whose little girls had their hair in little buns and tiaras with glitter even I think. I asked her if they had it done at BBB, and she replied, "No, it's the MOM boutique! I did it. Have you seen how much that cost?" We laughed - she was funny! Her girls looked cute, and were happy with their princess stuff too.

Does she like going to a beauty shop? If not, I'd skip it.

I've also seen girls with beautiful BBB do's and gowns at MK, when it was super hot, and some looked like they'd rather be in a tee shirt and skirt or shorts. It's good to pay attention to the weather with those gowns, since some may get hot in the summer.

We did it when DD was 7 and she loved it and all the attention she got from the CM's all day. Not sure if I would commit the $$ that young. We waited. You can purchase a dress and crown hair piece before you go and just do it yourself this time and see how it goes. That would be my suggestion. Skip it for a year or two, unless you think it is something you'll do every year.

For us it was worth the money. DD was 4 her first time and picked Cinderella with the Disney diva hair style. They put a lot of product in her hair to put it up. She loved having them do her hair, makeup and nails. She looked amazing. What also makes it worth the money is the hair style will last a couple days if you don't get it wet. Also, the following year she went as Cinderella for Halloween and we used the dress for that and I was able to do her hair the same way the Fairy Godmother did.

You could always try to do your DD's hair at home a couple times before you go. Let her know they have to do it that way. They used a lot of mousse and pulled it into a ponytail. If she hates you doing it I would wait till the next time you go.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that we bought her costume at a Halloween shop on after Halloween clearance and then brought it along. MUCH cheaper than buying the costume there.

We have done it twice, but my daughter wasn’t nearly that young. Actually we didn’t get to Disney until she was 7 and we didn’t get to do it that first trip. But she’s a little diva and while she doesn’t relish me doing her hair, she was happy to do this.

So even though she’s older she loves princesses, so we did it at 9, which was our 2nd trip. It was in the afternoon with the fairytale up do and a long gown and dinner in the castle afterwards. No itchy princess dress. I just got a formal gown in her favorite color on ebay for $20 and some Disney princess accessories for cheap. She was thrilled and she was comfortable because it was lined with satin.

She wanted to do it again the following year at age 10, but said she was okay with not eating in the castle and even though she still wanted the princess hair style, she would like something more fun to wear so we did a pink pettiskirt with biker shorts underneath, and a sparkly tank top with a sleeveless denim vest, which were both white. I added a long pink faux pearl necklace and two bracelets I got for $2.

She loves it. I love watching it. Even my 3 year-old son smiles while she is in the chair. She was actually sad to find out she will age out of it.

I’ve heard 5 or 6 is an ideal age. I think it depends on the child and also if you feel you’ll get another chance to do it. I think we’ll do it one more time, maybe with a fancy dress and dinner in the castle again. My son is starting to ask about the pirate makeover so I’ll probably end up switching them both to that and let her get the mermaid or pirate princess if she wants.

We decided to bring our own dress up stuff and she can go to MNSSHP.
That way we can all go together, she can dress up, and the cost is pretty much the same.

We did it last year when DD was 3 and it was absolutely worth it! Now, she is very girly, but doesn't like her hair messed with either. The also doesn't wear accessories in her hair for more then 5 minutes, so I was a bit concerned, but she did great! She sat still the entire time, and honestly, just the look on her face when she saw herself in the mirror was so absolutely worth it! She can't wait to go again in December!

We did it last year when DD was almost 4. One month away. We had on the last day we were there so she would be dressed up for the Halloween Party. She was so tired and so over stimulated by the time we even got to that day she just was not able to enjoy it. Her pics are so pathetic as you can see she is so tired she wasn't really "present" for the experience. We barely got through dinner and she wanted everything off. She loves, dress up and Halloween is almost her fave time of the year. If you do it, do it at the start of your trip. I think she would have loved it, but just didn't have anything left.

For us (or me, as I'm the one paying) it's worth the price tag. DD's first experience with BBB was in April and she loved every minute of the process. She didn't let out a single whine when her FGIM was pulling her hair back into the bun either, whereas at home she lets out yelps the minute she sees the hair brush.

On prior trips she had already gotten several princess dresses so she chose Belle at her BBB appointment; it was a huge winner as the sequins and glitter are at a minimum and didn't lead to complaints about scratching, etc. We're going again on the 27th of this month, which is conveniently the night of our MNSSHP. A semi-steep price tag it is for a Halloween costume but we would have done it again regardless, so I figured I may as well kill two birds with one stone.
