Originally we planned on bringing our own dress for our BBB appointment. Our DD5 has no clue she has a BBB appointment and thinks she just needs to pick a princess outfit to wear to dinner that night. She has changed her mind 5 times already and we are afraid she will change it several more times between now and December.

We are thinking of just letting her pick a dress once she gets to the park so that she can actually see them in person. Where would you recommend getting one at? Do we need to upgrade our package from Coach to something else?

December is a long time away for a 5 year old and changing her mind may continue until the last minute. If it is in the budget, I too would just wait until you get there and let her see what they have. I would tell her that deciding is really tough but really fun and she needs to just think about it until you get ready to purchase it. When you get there, let her know she has XX amount of time to decide and you are sure she will make the right choice. Of course accept her choice and remind her she will look beautiful in anyone she chooses. If she really become obsessed with choosing, help her to create a choice chart and list pros and cons for each one. Its a great way to teach even little ones to make well thought out purchases and choices!

Asking a 5 year old to pick which princess dress two months before the day she is going to wear it, is going to be a bit like herding cats in my opinion. Of course she is going to change her mind several more times before December.

Are you talking about which dress to bring from home, or are you talking about advising the BBB which dress she is going to pick like they usually ask when you make your appointment. If you are talking about which dress to bring from home, I would just wait until you are packing for your trip. If you are talking about telling the BBB which one, just wait until she gets there and let her pick. The BBB will not hold you to whatever you said over the phone, if you told them one. Your DD can switch when she gets there. My DD has done BBB several times. She has switched from what she told them over the phone, and after the first couple of times when they asked on the phone, I would just tell them I did not know what she would pick. It is not an issue. The idea is that they will try to be sure to have the one in her size if you tell them in advance, but we have been there when they have told parents who had picked one in advance that one was not in stock. We have also seen a child pick on at the BBB that it did not have in her size and they just called and pulled the right size from the Emporium and had the dress sent over.

Are you talking about having to buy one instead of just picking one out of the closet? If so, and you want to go the cheaper route, I would go ahead and have her pick one and order it now. Just tell her they may run out of her size in them and you need to do it now. Chances are once it arrives she will be fine with it- unless she deems it scratchy and wants to send it back. I would go ahead and do it before it gets closer to Halloween. If you wait, they might run out of the right sizes and you may run into restocking issues in November, and then be forced to get one at WDW instead.

The Disney parks dresses run around $65. The cost the same at BBB as in any of the stores at WDW. If you are going to buy one at WDW, you might as well do it at BBB. It is a fun experience. The Fairy Godmother in Training will get it all set up in the fitting room, and then do a little reveal. You don't have to call and change your package in advance. They will be happy to upsell you once you get there!

I was just trying to decide about getting one at BBB or letting her pick one out at the Emporium before we go to BBB.

Well I guess I gave you way more info than you wanted then! :rotfl:

The dresses are the same at the Emporium and the BBB. I would let her pick out one at the BBB because they do make a big deal about it. Plus, if you pick it up ahead of time, you run the risk that you will get to the BBB and she will decide she wants a different one!

I took my niece when she was a week shy of her 5th birthday. For months Cinderella had been the princess of choice. I got the whole outfit before we left. When we got there and she saw all the costumes she wanted to be Ariel. So, I ended up buying another dress. Luckily all was not lost as she wore the Cinderella dress for dinner at 1900 Park Fare.

My advise after my experience. Wait to buy the dress when you get there.

You can pick up a dress at Castle Couture right across from the castle. You can’t miss that store. It is like Disney Princess wear on steroids. I would do it that way unless your appointment is before park opening on your first Magic Kingdom day. They run $65 or $70 I think. If you upgrade your BBB package to include the dress, you’re looking at $200. Now it does come with certain accessories and a few prints from the photo session, but if you have memory Maker, you can get digital copies of all of the pictures taken at the photo session anyway.

If you don't want to upgrade the whole package to include the accessories and prints- you can do the package you have, and just separately buy the dress at the BBB and put it onto your ticket. They will let you do that. They will still make a fuss over the dress.

Thank you all for your input! I think we will wait for the BBB just to be safe:-)
