BBB NOT for Teens

Sorry to hear about your daughters hair. I do agree the styles look uncomfortable. I am bringing a can of glitter spray and am planning in doing my DD's hair myself.

Amen to that!! I get so tired of hearing Dis members being told that they have NO business complaining about an incident they had while on their trip to the world. I had no idea that we were only allowed to discuss things that were positive about their trips, not the negative points. Give me a break.
On the one hand you're absolutely right. Anyone should be allowed to complain about anything they like here.

On the other hand, it amazes and astounds me that some folks will post complaints about what a lousy time they had... yet didn't do anything about it at the time. The OP should have spoken up immediately instead of storming out and pulling out the hairstyle -- but she didn't. At this stage of the game, writing a letter is about the only thing she can do. Had she spoken up immediately there are other things that could have been done to remedy the situation.
While writing WDW to complain is fine, there's nothing wrong with telling others about her experience. I wouldn't hold my breath that Disney would do anything in response to the letter, either.
You'd be wrong, too.

Not saying Disney will reply to her... but to say Disney won't "do anything"? Oh, they will. The letter will be forwarded to the Leadership team of the BBB, who can address the issue internally.

Just because you don't see something being done doesn't mean nothing is.

This is a discussion board to discuss the good and the bad of WDW. The OP has indeed accomplished something productive and constructive--she's let other mothers of teenage girls know that only the 3 hairstyles are available and that they should consider that before forking over the money. While writing WDW to complain is fine, there's nothing wrong with telling others about her experience. I wouldn't hold my breath that Disney would do anything in response to the letter, either.

I agree that this board is to discuss the good and the bad, but I would also encourage the OP to write. It has been my experience that WDW does respond to guest communications. I sent an email in December relating some positive things and some suggestions for improvements. Not only did I get a phone call, but they also responded to my suggestions by mail. I was very impressed by this, and I felt they went above and beyond.

I wouldn't have wanted it done either at 13 or 14, but my kids grew up going to Disney and they go back to "silly kid mode" when we are there so they like doing things like BBB while we are there. No, they wouldn't do that stuff in normal everyday life, they are all kinds of cool at their high school, but at Disney they feel like little kids again.

I grew up in south Florida and went to Disney many, many times (hundreds, even), and I still would not have wanted to do this as a teen. I sang the song rides, danced along to the background music, but no way would I have wanted a BBB experience. And, yes, I was a girly-girl and definitely NOT a tomboy.

Does anyone else think the ads in the Disney buses saying you can "turn your pumpkin into a princess" are kind of offensive? Like a girl is an ugly, ordinary plain Jane unless she has a $50 hairclip with multi-colored hair attached and glitter lip gloss???

Everyone is different and while some teens think it's dorky, my super cool teens think it's fun, so to post a blanket statement, "BBB NOT for Teens" is simply only an opinion.

I agree - there are many people who have posted on the BBB threads that are teens or parent's of teens that love it. If the OP would have done minimal research - she would have known that only 3 hairstyles are available. There are at least 3 BBB FAQ threads with pictures on this site, and FGIT that work BBB post on them. Everyone is different and what appeals to one person isn't going to appeal to another. And I'm tired of people talking about sweet little girl's who go to BBB looking like sluts - give me a break!

Can you imagine the uproar if someone started a thread titled WDW isn't for babies?

I have no desire to ever take an infant to WDW or a teen to BBB, but
that doesn't mean others will agree with me.

OP, that's too bad your DD didnt have a fun time. It's also too bad mis-information was give to you (not surprised though). Maybe when she is older?

I know I did this a few years ago...the oldest customer in there and I LOVED it! I got the Pop princess or whatever it was and had rainbow hair and had SO many compliments. In fact I have the picture sitting here in my office that DH and I took afterwards at the HM.

But as a teen, I was not into the princess style at all (then again it was during the anti-princess grunge era of the 90s).

It just stinks when expectations don't go as we plan :sad2: .

This is 100% correct. ;)

Me too! Just because it is not to your taste is no reason to say the girls look slutty. I think they all look adorable!

OP-- I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience at the BBB.

I guess I should have titled this thread "BBB not my MY teen"

In my own defense, I did do additional research about what was available for my DD. That was my whole reason for calling customer service, I was told the FGIT could do something else for my DD considering her age. Had I known the truth, the appointment would probably have been cancelled. I also knew the FGIT were not licensced beauticians.

When I saw my daughter I kept my opinion to myself because I thought she liked it. It wasn't until we were out the door (and I didn't storm out) and at the wishing well when she told me she hated it and that it hurt so much. (Also, I have had to put my DD's hair into a bun many times for dance, and a nice, smooth bun does not alway hurt, but it has a tendancy to look like it is extremely tight due to the amount of gel and spray you can put on it.)

I was sad because I knew she didn't like it, and she was sad because she knew we had just wasted so much money.

I didn't intend to open a can of worms, I guess I just wanted to get it off my chest. I will let Disney know of my experience and the misinformation from customer service.

Some people ride space moutain and love it, while others hate it.
Some people have great experiences at the BBB, and others don't. I guess we fall into that category.

And MichelleVW, your girls look adorable::yes:: . I just wish it had gone better for us.

You'd be wrong, too..

That would be your opinion which you are entitled to express but I'm not required to agree with you.

Just because you don't see something being done doesn't mean nothing is.

And for a company renowned for it's customer service, their mistake is not acknowledging that the customer had a problem. Customers have no reason to believe that anything is done if a problem is not acknowledged or if they receive a vague "thanks for writing" letter.

It's great to have loyalty to Disney but I don't get your purpose in trying to browbeat those who have a difference of opinion into not posting. Sometimes folks just want to vent.

The OP has clarified that she called customer service before going which was the right thing to do. She also has clarified that she wasn't aware that her dd was unhappy until she'd left the Boutique. That's pretty normal for teenage girls--I know my dd wouldn't tell a hairdresser that she didn't like what she'd done but I'd hear about it later.

Next time try one of the Spas or Beauty Salons at one of the Deluxe Hotels. There is a very nice one at the Grand Floridian.

I am really sorry your experience wasn't more positive. We wouldn't have gone if we didn't have the 8 year old with us. I figured since the youngest was getting her hair done I would ask my two if they wanted it done and they said yes.

That's a bummer. It probably had a lot to do with the CM working there. I think a CM more experienced with hairstyling could try for something more mature.

I have noticed that most of the girls who've just come from BBB have their hair glued to their heads. I personally prefer a looser look - and I think the glitter looks more rockstar than princess.

But I know the little girls just love it.

Ahh... I know what that's like.... trying to be polite. My sister and I are exact opposites in that way - if she doesn't like something, she tells them. Me.... I try to be polite and at least wait til they're done until I ask if they could maybe make a little change here or there.... but lately, I've learned that it's best to speak up.

I'm almost sure that if your DD had expressed her dissatisfaction with her hair that the CMs would've tried to make it better.

Once again, I'm really sorry your experience wasn't great.

Just returned from mom/daughter trip for dd's 16th b-day. Everything wonderful, except for trip to BBB in the castle.

Was on the fence about the appointment - considering her age, the hairstyles in the brochure seemed too juvenile. Several days before departure, called customer service about this - could my daughter have something else done? "Absolutely! We have girls of all ages get their hair done. We have girls that come to get ready for prom!"

Flash forward to the appointment, daughter is in the chair, and fairy-godmother-in-training informs us they are only allowed to do the 3 hairstyles in the brochure. The manager is called over and she apologizes for the mix-up customer service has made. We were assured that they could fix the hairstyle so my daughter would look appropriate.

Needless to say, the stylist (for lack of a better word) did nothing to make my daughter look her age. My daughter could not see was the stylist was doing (the clients are turned away from the mirror) and so could offer no imput. I did not get a close look until everying was finished. I paid the $50+ and left very disappointed.

We walked straight to the wishing well, and she made me undo the whole thing. She said she hated it, it was ugly, and she had a headache from how tight the lady had pulled her hair into the bun.

I could have cried. Wasted money and wasted preciouse time in Magic Kingdom:sad:

I wish there was something I could do.

I only read your post and no responses yet, but I wanted to tell you they are NOT licensed hairstylest there, and they are only allowed to do the 3 styles. Sadly the CM's on the phone are really misinformed.

FYI, Buzz works at WDW, if I recall correctly.

And companies CANNOT tell you that they will be solving the problem, etc, unless they are also compensating you, b/c you might then take it further. If it's just a training problem, they are going to "blurb" you and then go and re-train. And IME if you do ever get a letter/email from a company teling you all about how they will talk to the person, blah blah blah, you've got a CS rep going "rogue", and if their email/letter is reviewed, THEY will get into trouble.

I probably came down too hard for you on that - there have been some really nasty threads about BBB on this board a few times - so I tend to get defensive - my apologies. That is the one area that bothers me about Disney - the knowlege of the CM's. A person should be able to call them
and get accurate information and that doesn't happen very often. I would lodge a complaint about that - maybe if they start hearing about it more - something will be done.

As for your daughter's hair being too tight - that must have been that FGIT - because my daughter (who was 4 at the time) didn't complain at all about her hair being tight, and she fusses everyday when I brush her hair. It isn't any fun though to have your hair pulled so tight, so I don't blame her for wanting it out. With a customer of that age, the FGIT probably should have asked her how it felt.

I think that like all things in life, it is personal preference. It is too bad that your daughter wasn't happy with her experience. I have kids between the ages of 15 & 21, and can imagine some of their friends just dying to do this and embracing it and others thinking that they would be waaayy too mature.

My main comment refers to the kids looking "slutty". They are pretending to be princess's who are larger than life and most princess's in their storybooks are not 5 yrs. old. Slutty is not a word that I would have used for any of the girls I have seen. Actually before BBB opened in MK, I enjoyed two different visits, which included an hour long coffee break at DTD watching the kids.
