BBB NOT for Teens

I actually had no idea that the whole thing got that expensive. What rubs me a little wrong about the whole concept of spending that much money for a princess makeover is that the whole thing turns out elitist. Little girls whose parents pay for this are to be treated extra special or given lots of extra attention. It basically is a way to separate yourself -that you are a "better parent" for paying this outrageous price for what amounts to be very overpriced dress up.

I think in a nutshell that is what bothers me about the whole thing. We live in an age of us constantly topping ourselves- who can get better stuff for their kid. I think just going to Disney is pretty special- now parents can compete by who can spend more money on their kids while they are there.

It really isn't as bad as you are making it out to be. First off, it is no worse than anything that happens in the real world. In the real world my friends take their kids to a salon for a haircut[ranging $30-60:scared1: per haircut], my daughter however goes to the haircuttery[about 415 with tip] or if my good friend has an opening then we go to her salon for free [my favorite of the options]. I don't think anyone claimed to be a better parent for taking their child to BBB. I know I do not think I am better. Blessed maybe for being able to take her, but certainly not better. Better than what anyway? Idk, I just don't live in that sort of mind frame, so I can not grasp what you are saying. I just don't see how going to BBB is any worse than TS ADR's over CS, or picking a mod over a value, etc.... I love my TS, and I love that we are staying at a mod this year.. I by no means think I am a better person than I was last year because of my upgrade. Yes for that amount of money [the $50.00 or $200.00 package] I want my little girl to feel special. I just do not see how that is elitist?? I call every child I see there princess or prince, so maybe I am just in a completely deifferent mind frame than most. I try to make everyone feel special regardless of what they are wearing. Again, I feel blessed, not better:confused3

I have to say, we live on a tight budget. My kids do not wear name brand clothes and have lots of expensive things (we do have Wii, but it was the entire family Christmas gift a year ago.)

But, we saved to do BBB, just like you would save for souveniers. It was very worth it to us and the memories and photos far outlasted the time there (by the wasy the hair does last for days.) We only did the basic package and my kids were happy to do that. I stay cheap (always value) because A. I like it and B. it allows us to go more often and C. it gives us extra money to do these kinds of extra things. I don't understand all this really, to each his own, though I don't understand the need to for name calling. Just me I guess.

Think of it this way: Not everyone can afford to go to Disney at all, so you are already in a relatively small group of people that can afford the trip.

You can look at everything in life as a competition if you choose to. I can stand at the All Star Music bus stop feeling inferior to those waiting for the Beach Club bus. But I choose not to. And who knows, maybe those people staying at the Beach Club scrimped and saved for years in order to do so. While I have made 2 trips in 12 months by staying at the All Star Resorts.

You can't judge a person by what they choose to spend their money on. I refuse to think I am competing with those who spend their money in a different way than I do.

By the way, when I treated my niece to the BBB, we did the middle package. I got her dress from our local Disney store. And she still looked like a princes..princess:

BEAUTIFULLY STATED! much better than my ramblings!!

Gotta love America. Land of the whining and moaning. Next time, have the teen try to, I don't know, act her age. BBB is obviously geared to little girls. I know in this current culture of "me, me, me" that might be hard to digest.

WOW......that's very harsh! I'm a 33 year old woman and want to get done up at BBB. If I went along with your logic I would wouldn't ride It's a Small World, Aladdin's Magic Carpet, Dumbo, or any of a long list of rides because they are geared towards kids. That makes no sense! :confused3 There is NOTHING wrong with ANYONE wanting to get their hair done at BBB.

Oh and to go along with your "Gotta love America" line....I would say YES I do love America because I have the CHOICE to do what I would like within the laws. Why must everyone be judgemental?

I think you have missed the magic that is Disney!

Try to, I don't know, mind your own business and let the Disney magic take over? :confused3

The OP was whining about the lack of non-childlike hairdos. BBB is geared to younger girls. Noone forced her to pay the $50 under duress.

She wasn't "whining about lack of non-childlike hairdos", she was venting because she was told falsely that there WOULD be non-childlike hairdos, only to find out that the CM she spoke to was wrong.

I never post on this type of thread, but this time I couldn't hold back!

We did the BBB for my 4 year old and it was wonderful. It is still her favorite memory of the trip. I didn't do the full castle package because I didn't want to spend that much and that was my choice. My daughter looked like an adorable ballerina with her princess bun and little crown. The makeup was extremely light. I CAN NOT believe the uncalled for comments that people have posted about this. The BBB is about a fairy tale and for little girls to feel special and fancy like the Princesses that they can't wait to meet! This is Disney World for goodness sake!!!! This is something special that we can do with our little girls! Yes DD was called Princess while her hair was up....but she was still called Princess the entire trip!! It didn't matter what she looked like! She was treated the same by CMs. I did this because I knew my girly 4 year old would think it was great! I wasn't parading her around trying to achieve more attention for her!

They convinced me while my DD5 was getting herself done up for MNSSHP to do the basic package as I was dressed up like cinderella. They did a good job on mine for the most part. I already had make up on though, so it was hair only and I did the Diva. The pallate is a little restricted on the colors of make up, so I can see where that may have been an issue for you.

Gee, and here I was thinking that the whole point of the DISboards was "discussion".

Telling another poster to "mind your own business" because you don't like what they posted in response to the thread is pretty darn rude.

I think we've long ago given up any pretense of helpful trip planning information in this thread.

Say Goodnight Gracie..
