BBB -- Is it a MUST do?

My husband is convinced this would be a waste of time :headache:

In truth, my daughter (age 6 at time of trip) does ballet, cheer etc. So she gets her hair and make up done all the time. Plus we have three boys who will be bored to tears while this is going on, so is this a MUST DO? Also I have heard the costumes there are so much better than the ones at home -- can you buy the costumes without doing the BBB? TIA

why don't you take them all to the mainstreet barber shop for some pixie dust. Its under $10 and what they do is gel and put colors and all kinds of different glitter in their hair. Even younger boys like to get it done. Most teenage boys would rather die, but if your boys are younger they would enjoy it!

For my DD they put her hair up in a messy ponytail and then put gelled spikes in it. She loved it. For boys they just kind of put gelled spikes in their hair and then color them and put little mickey heads sprinkled through their hair!

My DD7, who is more of a tomboy and never gets to do makeup, had a great time as a Disney Diva. She thought the hair extensions and glittery sticker on her face were very cool, and she loved the makeup. That being said, I asked her if she would rather do it again or spend that time doing rides, and the rides won out!

My DD4, who loves to play dress-up, did not love BBB (although she looked adorable!). I think she just didn't like someone she didn't know messing with her. I thought she would love it and DD7 would think it was too princess-y - go figure!

I'm glad we did it once, and the pictures are great. Both girls would rather do something else next time.

You can buy the costumes at the World of Disney store without doing BBB. They are much nicer than the ones at the Disney Store or Wal-Mart, Target, etc., with a price tag to match! They also have them at Tinkerbelle's Treasures at the MK.

The boys can do the "Cool Dude" look if they'd like or hang out at the Lego Store (if you are going to DTD). If you were thinking of doing BBB at the Magic Kingdom this fall, they could do rides with dad while your DD got her makeover.

That is a great idea, my boys ( at least two of them) would probably love that too (the gel idea at the barber shop) as they will only be 7 and 4.

I did my own makeover on my girls before we head to MK. I put their princess dresses on, then they each get a high ponytail, I sid sweep the bangs and spray them down. I bought them little clippie hair that looks like a curled puffball. I turn their ponytail into a bun and clip the hair over it. Instant updo. I have little tiara, that slide on under the ponytail in the front, (Target 3.00 each) and sprinkle on some glitter...a little lipgloss, blush and presto...Instant Princesses....FREE!!! I do it every time we go, and each time, people stop me to ask where I had it done. It only takes about 10 minutes and they love it. I just can't see spending all of that money for BBB. And I'm a total spender. If this is a once and a lifetime trip for you, then I could see doing it, but otherwise, I'd pass.

Why would it be a must? Millions of children have gone to Disney world before Disney ever dreamed up this money maker and had magical times! I myself think it is a waste and overpriced but that is my opinion and others love it but I wouldn't take the time for it especially with 3 boys to also think about. If she gets her hair done all the time anyway I would skip it. Unless you go often it also takes a lot of time away from park or waterpark time. You can buy costumes many places in Disney, does she even want one for her souvenir or is their something else she would prefer to buy. BBB isn't that special of a place either from what I saw. It looked just like any beauty salon except with Disney colors and some Disney pictures. It is right in the middle of the Disney store in DTD.

You can purchase costumes other than at BBB my dd loves and she does all of the things your dd does. You could go w/ your dd to BBB and your dh could go off w/ the boys and do something w/ them. Checkout the link in my sig and you will see lots of pics of the dresses in disney.

We just took 2 girls to WDW, and I didn't see any need for it. There is so much there to do without it. As you pointed out, it is added cost and time consuming. Although I am not a fan of the whole thing, there are plenty of local places around me that do this sort of thing. As another poster stated, you could DIY with glitter gel, glitter powder, and a princess costume.

Not a waste of time at all imo- and my husband and son went to to the Lego store while we were at BBB.

No, I wouldn't say it's a "must-do", but it would be fun for your DD6. There are plenty of things for the boys to do in DD - they don't have to wait there. They can walk around and meet you later. If you get the basic package, it's really not that expensive. I took my 3 girls there in April and they can't wait to go back next trip! Sure, I could do their hair myself and make them look like a princess, but they wouldn't feel like they were getting pampered, which is how they're treated at BBB. They have one fairy godmother-in-training doing their hair while another does their makeup. You couldn't wipe the smiles off my girls' faces that day. Then, to have a photo shoot - they ate it up! We will definitely be going back.

I don't think it is a "must do" either. My daughter will be 7 when we go and I have no intention of taking her.

I don't think so. I really wanted to take my DD on our last trip as a b-day gift, but she wasn't interested. I showed her pictures of kids who had been that had been posted here and the ones of my cousins little girl and she said she didn't want to do it. She like your daughter does the dance thing so it's nothing new for her either and she hates having her hair done, she's not to good about sitting still for the eye make-up either. I don't think it's the be all to end all. In all honesty the only hairdo I saw that I liked was the bun with the tiara. I just didn't like the way the fake hair pieces and colored hair looked. These little girls were all so cute, but I hated the hairdos.

No way is my 6 year DD going to a place that promotes make-up for such young girls. Dress up with play clothes and her little friends is one thing but to actually do full make-up and hair is crazy. Thank God DD knows she is pretty without it. And yes DD is a girly girly girl 100%.

I don't see anything wrong with full makeup to be a princess for a day. There's nothing wrong with no makeup either. My girls personally LOVE to play in makeup. Do I let them wear it to school or everyday?? No they're 5 and 6. They are competitive cheerleaders and probably the favorite part of getting ready is the hair and sparkly makeup they wear because they don't get to wear that on an everyday basis.

In response to the OP...it's not a must do. We've been several times and have never done it. This year we are going to do it. The girls have asked for that as their birthday present (the castle package, dress the whole nine) and that's what we're going to do. Actually, when I finally told them yes they were pretty excited, but when I told them it would be done in the MK at the castle they practically had seizures!!!

It's not a waste of time if your DD is enjoying herself. When I'm on vacation at WDW with my girls it's all about how much fun they're having. I think I get the most enjoyment from that. The first year that my youngest stayed awake and saw Tinkerbell come out of the castle, she was in awe, looked at me and said "She really is real mommy". I had to choke back the tears and it made every dime I spend at WDW worth it for that one moment.

Your DH can go do rides while you guys enjoy some Mom/daughter time.

More spots for us, then! :lmao: As someone who has allowed her DD7 and DD4 to do it, I can attest that they don't come out looking like Bratz dolls. DD4 didn't do the makeup (her choice), but she enjoyed the hair and nails. My kids also are not engaging in any "high-risk" behavior due to their exposure to make-up, nor have they asked to wear it at home after their experience. Fortunately, they are quite happy with their appearance every day but are also able to appreciate a little fantasy in life.

Well said! :thumbsup2

The makeup is only eyeshadow and a clear glittery lip gloss. The nails are optional as well. As you can see in the photos on the thread in my link they are not as StitchandPooh's Mom said looking like bratz dolls:rotfl:
In fact My dd wears more eyeshadow alone for her dance revues and competitions than they apply at BBB. The expierence is more hair than anything else. It is an expierence that your dd can have princess fun, and one that you can actually do w/ your dd(s) if you choose. I will be doing it w/ my dd's in oct when we do MNSSHP. If you ever plan to do something like Libby Lou's then what great place to expierence something like that for the first time.
