Okay Dis friends. DH and I are thinking about purchasing the BB-8 app enabled droid for our DGS for Christmas. We are still on the fence about it right now. From what I can tell, no one is going to offer a discount on this item on BF and it doesn't appear that you can use coupons for it. Can anyone confirm that for me? Also, does anyone have this? If you do, do you think it would be an appropriate gift for an 8 year old? The age shows 8+ and he is pretty tech savvy. Any thoughts??

I apologize if this is not the correct place for this question.
Thanks!!

There are a bunch of reviews of it and of the cheaper Hasbro non-app controlled version on youtube. We watched this one
and then decided to get the Hasbro one for our 9 year old. Whichever you decide, I would do it quickly if you are going to do it because it is a very hot item for Christmas and already can be hard to find places.

Thank you "ktim" this should help us decide. I also know that it is supposed to be a "hot" toy this year. I am looking to buy in the next couple of days. I just need to make a decision!! Thanks again!

DH and I have one and something I wish we'd known is that it doesn't work on carpet. Like at all. It *kind of* works on thin carpets like hotels have, but it struggles there also. If you have lots of carpet, one of the other bigger (but not quite as cool) models would probably be best.

Otherwise, it's pretty simple to use; an 8yo should have no trouble.

I had the same problem years ago with the voice activated/responsive R2D2. It was horrible on carpet. It could work, and worked on certain kinds, but could easily have problems on other types. Flooring is always something to consider with any kind of rolling toy. Also, bear in mind the age of the child as this can determine which kind you want to get. If we buy the app one it would be for me. My young kids are not quite old enough to be trusted with such an expensive toy nor can they operate it properly yet. That said, I don't want to spend that much money on a "toy". haha.

Thank you both. He would have to use it on carpeting. It is a Berber type carpet, so it is not so plush, but that would probably still be hard to maneuver. I really do appreciate the responses!!
