Bausch & Lomb recall

I am not sure why this is labeled as a Recall, because they have not recalled the product according to the article. "Graham said, "All of the data about the formulations approved by the FDA suggests that it kills the fungus. That's why it's so puzzling."

She also emphasized this is not a recall, but simply a temporary suspension of shipments until more can be known."

I use the B & L No Rub Solution and have for years, no problems yet, expect when I sleep in my contacts (but that is not there fault). I will just keep an eye out for now. Just follow the simple precautions and wash your hands well before you touch your eyes.

I don't think the problem is a result of not following the precautions and not washing your hands. It seems like there might be a problem in the manuf. process of the "MoistureLoc" solution where there could have been some sort of fungus in the machines that produce the solution/fill the bottles etc.

I've also read that the eyeball must be swabbed to test for a fungal infection so I don't think it would be detected in a regular eye exam.

Just to let everyone know: both the Equate brand from Walmart and Target's brand are Renu products. Bausch & Lomb manufactures both of those generics.

Also, optometrists can culture fungal infections.

Also, if your eyes have been irritated from using the Renu for more than a week, chances are it is not fungal related. Fungal infections tend to manifest fairly quickly (few days vs. few wks). The irritation most posters are feeling is probably due to a "delayed hypersensitivity" to the preservative in the soln which is easily corrected by switching to a preservative free solution i.e. Clear Care...

I've got a bottle of the MoistureLoc solution and it says on the box "this unique patented formula is not sold to any retailer as a store brand". It must be the regular Renu solution that is sold as the Walmart and Target brand?

Clear Care started shipping again this month. :cool1:

Yeah! My eye dr. said it would be back on the shelves in April, but I haven't seen it yet so I opted for a 4 oz bottle of Optifree Express for the time being. Clear Care has been unavailable for a couple of months. I e-mailed the company a while ago and they told me it would be available again soon. My eye dr. recommends this brand and I've never had a problem with it. Also, if you have this particular fungal infection, it would show up quickly and apparently causes unbelievable pain, like knives or daggers in your eye (according to one sufferer's account). If your eyes have been mildly irritated or annoying you, it probably isn't this particular fungus, but definitely get it checked.

My son, a new contact user in Nov 2005, experienced the same symtoms; red eyes, sensitive to light, burry vision, pain, etc. Coincidenty, he got his contacts from Walmart's vision center who gave him samples of the product in question, Bausch & Lomb ReNu Moistureloc Multi Purpose Solution. He had three serious episodes with these same symptoms and was under a doctor's care each time. However, the source of the problem was never determined. After the third and most severe episode (possible damage to the cornea), and after missing four days of school because he was in such misery, he opted to discontinue wearing contacts. Note: Because he was a new user of contacts, proper hygiene was stessed all the time. I just happened to hear a small tidbit on the news last night about this and did a little research and found this forum. I appreciate anyone else's comments or concerns. Especially since I am a long time user of contacts and have never had any problems and was somewhat puzzled why my son was having such a problem.
