We are trying to get my Dad to go with us to WDW next May. I had a weird question regarding this. On Feb 1st he had an LVAD implanted (this is a pump that pumps his heart for him). The LVAD is run on batteries that he wears when mobile and then a power supply which both charges the batteries and allows him to be connected to the supply while at home/sleeping. Katie Couric had a story about these on April 9th. Basically if he is not on the power supply or batteries, his heart will stop and he'll die. How's that for dramatic? :)

Anyway here is the question.... how far would you say it is from a bed in the BWV to the toilet? My Dad remains tethered to the power supply while he sleeps since the batteries have a life of 5 hrs on them. His cord is about 30 ft. Anyone have any ideas?

thanks

First of all, :welcome: to disABILITIES!

A lot of the answer depends on the size villa you will be getting. My guess would be that generally it would be less than 30 feet.

When you get there I would suggest checking right away. If there will be a problem, contact the Resort Guest Servics and explain the situation. I am sure they would have no problem in loaning you an extension cord.

I think I would pack an extension cord just in case.

I don't think it would be more than 20 feet even in a 1 or 2 bedroom. In a 2 bedroom, you've got one bedroom with a studio layout, and in the 1 bedroom, you go straight from the bedroom into the restroom area. I would imagine you would be okay. But you know what, I bet that someone at BWV would actually go up and measure for you if you explained your situation. They're a pretty cool bunch.

This thread (the accessible room thread stuck at the top of this board) has a floor plan of a 1 bedroom villa at SSR in post 13. The floor plan of the villas at SSR, Beach Club, Boardwalk and WL are almost the same, so you should be able to figure out the size by looking at some of the measurements that vonpluto wrote down.
There are also floor plans on the Disney Vacation Club website. It looks to me like it might be close to 30 feet because of having to go around walls. There are outlets where near to the bedside tables (the circle with an 'x' across it is a lamp.

Another option would be to rent a commode. Care Medical rents equipment like that.
