Bathroom tile... shiny or matte finish.

(am so indecisive and easily swayed...)

I was all set with a white crackle subway tile with a shiny finish for my bathroom redo when I showed my sample to a friend who happened to have been a housecleaner in the past and she almost scolded me for not thinking. She claimed that they will be horrible to keep up with and that i should definately lean toward a more matte or dull finish.

I was kinda thinking just a few quick squirts of spray and a soft cloth and I would be done.

Does anyone have experience with this? Do you have horrible tiles that you wish you never got?

Any opinions?

the matte tiles MAY not show the soap scum as bad as the glazed tiles however they will need to be cleaned just as often. One thing to keep in mind is if you go with the matte tiles try to match the grout color to the tile color as they have been know to retain the grout color ever so slightly. You can do a sealer on the tiles before grouting to help prevent this. Are you hiring a qualified installer or is it a DIY project?

these types of tiles should not go on the floor. So, I guesed it would be walls.

Yes guys, your right, subway half-way up on the walls and the entire inside of the shower. Thanks for the advice. I had no idea about the matte tiles absorbing the grout color.

Yes, I do have an installer who will be doing the work. (Thankfully! - Its WAY too permanent a project for me to attempt. Wallpaper -yes, paint - no problem, but tiles - NO WAY JOSE!

I don't know... I think I'd do the shiny. If they were floor tiles, obviously matte would be a better choice. But on the walls, the shiny tiles would be beautiful. If you like the one you already saw, then you should use it. With regular cleaning, they will stay nice and shiny.
