I have a potientially sticky situtation!

My brother is going up early with my 7 year old daughter. What should he do if he has to use the bathroom? I know just go right? Well what I meant is what should he do with my daughter? She can't go in with him! Anyone ever had this problem? Clever ideas?? Thanks so much!

That is an interesting dilema. I don't know the answer but I will BUMP for you.

If you're comfortable with it, maybe have him explain the situation to the nearest (female) cast member, and have her keep an eye on your DD for a minute.

That's the only solution I can think of...

That is tough--it's much easier to take boys into the women's restroom. It would depend on your 7yo. My kids at 7yo were old enough to stand outside of a restroom waiting for a parent, but it's still not something that I'm real comfortable with. Maybe there is an area at the entrance to the restroom where she can't see what's going on inside, but is within earshot of her uncle. Or if he is near a baby care center maybe he can go in there and use the facilities and can just explain the situation to the cast member. I don't remember if there are family restrooms and, if so, if there are stalls where he can have a little privacy, but have your daughter close by.

Maybe others have better ideas.

I'm sure any of the full-service restaurants would let him use the facilities, given the unique situation. At least having your DD wait in a restaurant may feel a bit safer than out in the parks.

Call me crazy  but aren't there strategically located "Family Restrooms" or "companion restrooms"????........ that were separate from the Men's or Women's restrooms........I could be wrong, but......................might be worth checking into.......

Here is a thread you might browse. It started as the flip-side of your concern (young boy with adult woman), but as the thread goes on, there is discussion on you concern as well (and remember your brother will not only need to deal with what to do when he has to tinkle, but also with how he'll deal with it when she has to tinkle). On page 4 of the thread, someone has posted a complete list of "Companion" restrooms, that might be handy to print off. Hope this helps.

Another option is to go to the firstaid/baby centers- Im sure they have bathrooms and its more off the beaten path and is staffed by CMs

It would get annoying if yuou are on the other side of the park though

The Companion Restrooms are one large room; there is no stall or way to have some privacy using them.
Some of them are in very busy areas (like the one in Adventureland) and some of them are very secluded (some of the ones in Epcot). They would be a good place for him to be able to have the little girl use the restroom without him worrying about her being in the ladies room all by herself, but wouldn't be much different for her to wait outside of compared to if the uncle was using the men's room.
The Baby Care Centers and First Aid have bathrooms he could use while having her near CMs. Or the full service restaurants often have their restrooms close to the entrance where he could leave the little girl by the CM greeter for the restaurant.

I think the restrooms inside of full service restaurants is a good idea. They are scattered around the park and I can't imagine there being any problem with using them, unlike in the real world where they are only for people eating at the restaurant.

It's tough traveling solo with a young child. I plan to bring my 4yo son this fall. Restrooms are not a problem since he is young, but getting food from fast food restaurants and food courts can be difficult. I was eating in a food cuort at Epcot in February and not long after we got our food he informed me that he had to go to the bathroom. I found a CM and asked him not to clear the table and it turned out fine, but I half expected to come back to a cleared table.

giving credit to Schmeck who originally posted...here is the list of companion restrooms. Our boys will be 7 and almost 10 when we travel again in December. I am greatful for this list. DH will be with us, but I do travel back and forth to visit family. as well as just shopping around town, going out to eat, etc. I will send them together at places I am comfortable with, but I will not send them together at say, a rest stop on the interstate, they will come with me. Personally, I think if the uncle is comfortable enough, he could have his neice in the companion restroom with him and just have her to turn her back. This gives him some privacy and keeps her safe. We were just at WDW and my DD is 7 also, we were alone at the parks often. Maybe I'm a bad parent, but I just stood outside the womens RR and waited for her. We came up with a "code word" she would scream if anyone tried anything. Other than a few glares from women coming out, it was fine. All the restrooms we used only had one entrance/exit, so no one could take her without going by me, and if she screamed I was going in no matter what. I guess it depends on the parents. Good luck in what ever you decide!

I'd definitely go with the full service restaurant idea. The restrooms are always right there at the front of the restaurant and they're small enough I'd be comfortable letting the 7 year old go in the ladies room by herself. There's always a seating area that she can sit down and NOT MOVE until Uncle comes out!

When me and my son spend time alone in the parks we always run into this problem. He's too old for the women's room. If we both have to go-- I send him in to the men's room first (the one's w/ only 1 exit/entrance). Once he's done I have him wait right outside the women's room. I rush like a madwomen (nervous the whole time). I try to pick a bathroom that's in a quieter area. I have told him that if anyone were to "try anything" he is to go running and screaming like mad into the women's room. At that point-- being "too old" goes out the window. This is always such a dilema when we go anywhere alone. There is never an easy answer, except places that have family restrooms where there is still a stall.
