So my girl cat (1 y/o) is peeing on things other than her potty box....so my question for you is what can I wash the rugs in in order to get the cat pee odor out of it so she is not attracted to it again....thanks

Also how do I know if it is a Urinary tract infection?

DD's cat (now deceased) was doing this and she was able to buy something in Walmart or the pet store (don't remember which) in a spray can.. She used this on the areas where he had formerly wet - after cleaning it up well - and that seemed to do the trick..

Sometimes it's a UTI, but in DD's case, her cat had diabetes and every time his levels weren't right, the peeing issues would start again..

Hope you can find a suitable product that works for you..:goodvibes

You will need to take the cat to a vet in order to determine if it has an infection.

As to cleaning the carpets, the best thing to initially put down is vinegar. This will combat the urine smell. Of course, the cat may just decide to pee in a different area of your home.

If the cat is not sick, it may just be staking out its territory. I have been having a similar problem with my two cats. One is extremely jealous and has been peeing outside of the litter box to "protest" the other cat. I have three litter boxes for the two cats. The vet has put the cat on a small dose of "cat valiums". I have put dog training pads on the floor around the areas where she pees. There is only so much you can do. Cats are very independent animals. They cannot be scolded like dogs. Yelling at them only increases their anxieties worsening the problem.

Good luck and hope the cat is not sick.

I found Simple Solution is good. I would definitely take your kitty to the vet. The vet needs to make sure nothing is medically wrong.

My cat will do this if her litter box is not up to her standards, or if the dog is giving her a particularly hard time. A little vinegar in the wash helps get the stink out but it doesn't really stop her.

You need to rule out a UTI with the vet, of course.

When cats start peeing elsewhere its usually a sign of a UTI, but there could be other reasons so you do need to take her to the vet.

Honestly I don't think there is any way to get the smell out fully. I had mine professionally cleaned by a "pet stain/smell expert" and that didn't even work. It was in the finished basement so anytime it was humid down there, I could smell it, and it drove me crazy so we replaced the carpet.

I think there is a type of litter out there that will turn a color if your cat has a UTI. I've seen it in walmart.

I also vote for vinegar.

Please take kitty to the vet. They can do bloodwork, etc to see if there is a problem.

You know, I too, have seen the special cat litter advertised which is supposed to indicate a color change if there is a urinary problem. I don't know. i guess it is a good start, but I would not want to depend on it working as it advertises. I wonder if it has an expiration date. My fear is that maybe the chemicals in it would get old and maybe not work well. :confused3

D mannose is great for possible bladder infections. I have used this for my cat who has issues almost every month due to a birth defect. I save alot of cash this way.

Take her to the vet, first.

What color is the urine? My kitten was going places other than the litter box and the urine was dark orange from what I could tell. We took her in to the vet, and he didn't even get a sample from her but put her on amoxicillan. It cleared right up. I would ask the vet about the above product before I tried it. If you have ever had a UTI yourself, you know that it needs to be treated right away.

In addition to the possiblity of a UTI, it could also be kidney failure, which is deadly if you don't start treating it early enough. That was the first symptom my cat exibited when his kidneys began to fail. As others have said, you should take her to the vet to find out for sure what's going on.

I also recommend using vinegar. We've also had good luck with a spray called "Nature's Miracle".
