Baskets for Bridal shower!

Every region of the country is different. Many religions have their own customs.

A good, Southern, protestant wedding would never have alcohol or a money dance, but that doesn't mean Catholics are going to stop having open or cash bars at their receptions and cultures that shower the bride with cash during that dance will stop.

Different strokes for different folks. And if this type of shower means you aren't bringing a gift, and the bride gets cash instead of stuff she may not like / want / need, what's the harm? These days, esp, the bride and groom may need cash for rent a lot more than they need another place setting of china they'll never use. :confused3

I just asked a question - I don't quite understand what it is. I don't think it would be considered a "shower" if people weren't bringing gifts. I'm assuming this is an extra thing?

I'm curious. Is this a new "raise money for the bride and goom" thing?

I thought when the OP said "raffle" she meant like a drawing for a door prize (which I haven't heard of at a shower, but whatever). I didn't think they were actually asking guests at a shower to purchase raffle tickets. Maybe OP can clarify?
I have never heard of asking shower guests to purchase something at the shower...that would be a new one for me.

When we did this it was for prizes for the games you won baskets.

just thought of that we did Holiday Baskets to you could do a picnic one for fourth of july we had did one for Christmas, Thanskgiving, Halloween and Valentines Day. Everyone loves those we put different decorations, ornaments table cloths etc

I am with you. I don't understand the point of this at all? This sure stinks of another money grab if you ask me.

I am confused about the baskets too. I am presently hosting a bridal shower (later this summer) and I would never expect others to buy tickets for a gift. I have the 10 "prizes" bought and I consider that part of my cost for hosting. The shower is my gift to the bride.

Now if the baskets are the "prizes" then it is a really nice idea and a cute "prize" idea.

It sounds very much to me like they are going to sell tickets in a raffle to raise money as part of the shower. That's not the custom here but as a previous poster mentioned, customs vary greatly within regions and religions. In Ontario, my friends had a "stag and doe" before their wedding. Tickets are sold to a big party and there are games and things to raise money. The money is given to the couple for their honeymoon. I had never heard of it before, but it's perfectly normal and expected there.

ok... let me clear things up here...each bridesmaid is going to be making 3 baskets. there is 3 of us so there will be 9 baskets from us. We then have the girls at the shower fill out an envlope ( for the thank you card) with their addresses on it. it is then put into a basket and while the bride is opening up here presents we stop everyonce on a while to give a way a basket.
Guests are not asked to Purchase tickets at all!! NO money is involved. I'm from Buffalo NY and this is done at all the showers i have ever been at, i thought it was just something that happened at all showers. Guess not!
It is nice to go to a shower and walk away with something. we are going to try and have little things to give away as well as the bigger baskets. like a bottle of wine here and there too... we like to see everyone walk away with something.
hope this clears it up!! :)

Thanks again for all the great ideas!!

We do a party favor for all guests that have a thank you on them and then prizes that are won by games. So these baskets are your prizes. That is a great idea.

Every guest also gets a favor at their spot at the table. so they will walk away with a favor and hopefully a basket. it also keeps their attention and the talking down during the opening of the presents! :)

We do the same thing the baskets are for prizes for the games, then we have favors and put a sticker under a seat and that person gets the centerpiece!

Now I gotcha! The baskets are prizes. The only place I've really seen baskets like you described along with the word "raffle" is at fundraising events -thus the confusion.

Sorry!! didn't mean to confuse anyone.. i never been to s shower where it hasn't been done so i was just assuming that it was done at all showers!! lol

The baskets we had at my shower were:

Bath and Body
Italian
BBQ
lotto
chocolate
tea and jam
Steelers
Penn State
Christmas
Movie and Popcorn
Picnic
Garden (potting soil, seeds, small hoe and shovel)
Wine and cheese
patio (pitcher, glasses, ice tea mix)
Baking (muffin mix, pan, muffin liners)
Ice cream (syrup, sprinkles, coupon for ice cream at store)

Hope these help, seems like there were a lot of good ideas already given.

How about a candy bouquet? I have done these for gifts, you can use any kind of container, crumple up foil in the bottom, attach different candy bars/candy items to thin wooden skewers, arrange like flowers in the container. If you google candy bouquet you can see lots of examples. This can be done very inexpensively with candy on sale, etc. You can do an all chocolate one, or mix different candies, etc. :)

so i took your idea and ran with it!!! i went to the Dollar store and made 4 candy Boqutes for 24.00!!!! It was alot of fun!! I got a buch of differnt Fun sized candy! peanut butter cups, snickers, butter fingers, 1000 grand.. then some smarties, totsieroll pops and gum~~ They turned out a amazing!! thank you so much!!! now we can have more baskets!! thinking of doing a cookie one too!!!

Keep the good ideas rolling!! :)
