Tricky Tray:
Plural: tricky trays
Synonyms: penny sale, penny auction,
penny social, gift auction,
chinese auction, silent auction,
brown bag auction, basket social
dark horse, basket games

1: a fund raising event for a church, school or other organization where guests buy tickets, then place them in a container next to the item they would like to win. Items can be a single item or a group of items based on a theme. Once everyone has had the opportunity to place his or her tickets in the container, the drawing for the prizes begins. If your number matches the winning number drawn, You win that prize

Whatever you call it...Do you have strategy that *helps* you win? I am going to one in a few weeks and so far I have not had much luck over the years...in the mean time I swear there are people there who clean up and win basket after basket...So, I am looking for any hints, tips or ideas to help me win!!

Bend a corner of the ticket. Then unfold it again. Sometimes this works but sometimes the person drawing the tickets is onto this trick and purposely won't draw it LOL

If you are putting a bunch of tickets in for one prize don't put them all in at the same time. I know the tickets will be mixed before one is drawn, but this way they will be spaced out even when being mixed.

If these both fail, bribe the person doing the drawing :rotfl2:

Be careful with that- we have signs up at ours and we will not pull bent tickets as the winner--if we pull a ticket that is bent it goes in the trash and we pull a different one!

I run a raffle every year for my husband's singing group. There is no secret to winning a drawing. It's random. I will say that the people who tend to win are the ones who buy the most tickets. The larger number of tickets in the container puts the odds slightly in their favor.

I will say that bending tickets does not work. Some people stand around and make a huge deal of folding their tickets over. I can't see what I'm drawing, but if I feel a folded ticket, I am very unlikely to draw it.

That's why I said it might not work.

Good idea...the last one I went to I did try dumping a lot of tickets in a few baskets I really wanted...but I dumped them in at the same time

. I will try not to put them all in at once!!

This next Tricky Tray I am going to is HUGE...I know they will not allow bent tickets
