Basic Items You Need On A Disney Vacation

Hi everyone, vacations are fun, but many people forget to pack a few useful items. Here are some items you should consider packing.

Clothes for a dressy event that is comforble while traveling and suitable for the climate.

A men's sport jacket because some restaurants only allow people who wear them.

Raincoat and galoshes for when it rains.

A hat or sun hat to block the sun rays.

A pair of well broken-in boots or sandals, you do not want to tour around in new but uncomfortable shoes.

We always pack....

raincoats even if it isn't supposed to rain

medicine for every occasion (so you don't have to waste time or money trying to find what you need)

if you are going in the summer always bring one sweatshirt and one pair of jeans. If you are going in the winter pack at least one pair of shorts (we learned both of these the hard way).

if you have kids bring glowsticks brought from home

bring 2 swimsuits...no one likes to put on a cold swimsuit

cell phone charger

extra batteries for whatever electronics need them

sunscreen even in the winter

singles for tipping

any snacks that are packable from home

I'm sure I could think of more but the two I NEVER forget are the medicines (cough, cold, peptobismol, benedryl, pseudophed etc) and the 2 swimsuits

We always make sure we have the following:

cords/wall chargers/car chargers for camera batteries & cell phones

Excedrin

A few bandaids

Sunblock

sunglasses

hair elastics for those hot days

my laptop-to download each days pics

rain ponchos from the dollar store

swimsuits and beach towels

one dressy type outfit (just in case-even if we do not plan on going to someplace like Victoria and Alberts or the equivalent)

autograph books for the kids

We are going to take an expandable duffle bag. We will pack it in our suitcase, and when it is time to go home, all those souvenirs will go in the duffle bag!

Allergy medicine. We arrived in Orlando at 10:30 am in June 2006 and by 11:15 my daughter who suffers from seasonal allergies (for most of April) was sneezing, sneezing, and sneezing. We had to buy an $8 box of benedryl. She had to take some every four hours for 2 days and then she was accustomed to the plant life of Central Florida...so if you suffer don't forget your allavert!

The moderates have a large picture window facing the walkway that everyone uses to get to their rooms. Not really able to keep curtains open, all the tourists peer in

i like the 50's building, top floor facing the water. Tends to be quieter but is farther away from the food court

A sport coat is only necessary if you're dining at Victoria and Alberts. A few other restaurants, such as California Grill, recommend dressing up a bit from park clothes, but the formality of a sport coat is overkill (but you wouldn't be OVERDRESSED in it, per se, just unnecessary). When we went to CG, DH just wore a nice button down shirt, I wore a light short sleeved blouse, and the kids dressed in their Wednesday night (summer) church clothes (shorts and nice shirts). Others were dressed up more than us, others dressed down.

We choose shoes that are ok in wet weather. Last year we wore Tevas. This year I'm bringing them along but we will all be likely wearing our Crocs. Both brands dry quickly and won't be ruined by water. Nothing worse than soggy shoes

Bring rain ponchos from home - you can get them cheap from the sports dept at places like Wal-mart or K-mart (they are expensive if you buy them in the part).

A small first aid-kit with things like Band-Aids, your painkiller of choice, something for insect bites, allergy medicine etc.

Hand Sanitizer and wet wipes to clean sticky little hands.

Sunscreen,

An emergency list of numbers if (heaven forbid) there is some type of injury or accident and you need to get in touch with your family doctor or family members - this is especially important if you have kids traveling with you that are not your own. Insurance information.

Always take at least one more change of clothes and underwear than you think you will need.

Cell phone chargers.

Batteries for radios, cd players, etc

Some things that I keep in my overnight bag so I don't have to worry about packing them are, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant - I buy sample sizes and just keep them in there so if I ever forget my own while traveling I have a back up. Change out the samples every so often especially if you don't travel much.

Games for the kids while traveling and standing in line.

Backpacks, they make it much easier to keep up with items and keep hands free while in the park.

All great suggestions. I addition to all the above we add....

1. extra plastic hagers/plastic cloths pins to hange up wet items

2. Blister (mloeskin) pads

3. Sunshades & hat

4. We make up our own First Aid kit that includes eyedrops, bandaids, sunburn aloavera loation (green kind), neosporian, eyeglass repare kit, gauze & 2" sq pads, sissors, q-tips, stuff like that

5. E-mail and mailing dddress list of friends

5. Emergency phone numbers

All great ideas but one more to add:
If you are going at the end of November or December be sure to bring a string of Christmas lights for your balcony . I forgot mine last year and was disappointed since every year before I was able to spot my balcony from a far. I won't forget them this year.

A pop-up laundry hamper. The flat disc doesn't take up much room in the suitcase, and it seems like a little touch of home to be able to throw dirty clothes into the hamper rather messing around with plastic laundry bags on the floor.

60's are closest to the food court, but surround the main pool (Hippy Dippy). I never remember being bothered by any noise though. I live in a very rural and quiet area and probably would have noticed a loud level of noise. The 60's buildings and a portion of the 50's and 70's are preferred locations and are a little extra, but well worth the cost. Did you request a preferred location when you made your reservations?
