Basic FastPass and Magic Band Questions (Sorry!)

I used to be up on all this, but we have had Universal APs for a year now, so I'm out of the Disney loop. My sister and family are visiting DW in April and she's overwhelmed with all the planning. It's not her thing, so I'm trying to help.

They are staying at WL - I understand they will have their MBs shipped to them. They have a friend coming it to go to the park with them for one day - he will buy a one-day ticket at the gate (or ahead of time), so will he get a MB too and if so, how does he get it?

As for FastPasses, can she book those now? And then how are they linked to the MBs? And what about the friend who won't be on the hotel reservation...can they book FP for him too?

Sorry....I realize these are all very basic questions, but I'm having a hard time finding all the answers.

1. Only if he is registered in advance as staying in the resort room.
Or at another WDW resort.

2. Only if he buys/orders his park ticket now, and is listed on an MDE account.

No purchased ticket in advance, no advance FP+.
No WDW resort reservation, no free MagicBand.

(BTW, a guest does NOT NEED a MB to make FP+ reservations or to use FP+.)

If you aren't staying on site you just get a regular ticket, and if you want You can buy a magic band but he doesn't need one. If you buy your ticket there you can't book your FP in advance, you need a ticket to do that. For the rest of the family at WL, they can book their Fastpasses at the 60 day mark from check in, at midnight, for the length of their stay.
