and #1...
Cal Ripken breaking Gehrig's consecutive games streak in 1995.

What did you think of these? Any you don't agree with? Any you think were missed?

Geez - 1941 was one heckuva year, wasn't it?

It was fairly amazing to see Charlie Hustle out there and I'm wondering how the Bambino could be left off this list.

The Babe
Say Hey Willie ( A Giant at that)
Don Larsen World Series Perfect game

Just to name a few

Yes, kind of amazing that Hank and Mark got on for breaking the Babe's record, but the Babe didn't????

I remember seeing some of these - McGwire, Ripken and Rose. I also saw Carl Yastrzemski hit his 3,000th, that was a 'great moment' here anyway. :D

Some interesting tidbits about The Babe...

Babe Ruth was one of only two people (Reggie Jackson being the other) to ever hit three home runs in a World Series game and is the only one to do it twice (1926 & 1928).

Babe Ruth is credited with the invention of the modern baseball bat. He was the first player to order a bat with a knob on the end of the handle. Louisville Slugger produced the bat which he hit 29 home runs in 1919.

Babe Ruth holds the record for the longest complete game victory in World Series history. In 1916, as a member of the Boston Red Sox, Ruth went 14 innings to defeat the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Babe Ruth led the American League in home runs 12 times.

When Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs in 1927, he hit 14% of all home runs in his league that year. For a player to hit 14% of all home runs today, he would have to hit over 300 home runs in one season.

From 1915-17, Ruth won 65 games, more than any other southpaw in the majors.

Ruth altered the salary structure of the game - via a trickle-down effect. His highest salary was $80,000 annually in 1930 and 1931. He suffered a $5,000 pay cut in 1932 despite hitting .373, leading the majors in 1931 with a .700 slugging percentage, tying for the lead in homers with 46 and knocking in 163 runs.

After the Red Sox sold him to the Yankees, Ruth single-handedly outhomered the entire Boston team in 10 of the next 12 seasons.

BYW - Ruth held the records in slugging percentage....
In 1920, Ruth established a still-standing mark with his .847 slugging average. He followed that with the second-highest mark ever (.846) in 1921

That record was eclipsed by Barry Bonds in 2001. His percentage was .863

No Babe.

No Barry either.

What about the famous Shot Heard 'Round the World? I thought that was included on every list!

Looks like the 5 I voted for made the top 6. :) I thought it was cool to see Pete Rose listed in the balloting and even cooler to see him make the top 10.

I think one thing that really added to Ripkin breaking Gehrig's streak was the 1994 strike, and Ripkin was the shot in the arm that MLB needed to recover.

The only one I would add to it would be the "Worst to First" 1991 World Series (not one but two teams -- the Braves and the Twins -- go from last place in 1990 to playing in the WS the next year), but I'm not sure which one to take out.
