As announced before last night's game....
10. Nolan Ryan's seventh career no-hitter in 1991
9. Kirk Gibson's pinch hit home run in the bottom of the ninth in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series
8. Joe Dimaggio's 56-game hitting streak in 1941
7. Ted Williams hitting above .400 in 1941
6. Pete Rose breaking Ty Cobb's all-time career hits record in 1985
5. Lou Gehrig's farwell speech in 1939.
4. Mark McGwire topping Roger Maris' signle season home run record in 1998. With kudos to Sammy Sosa.
3. Jackie Robinson's rookie season in 1947.
2. Hank Aaron breaking babe Babe Ruth's all-time home run record in 1974.
and #1...
Cal Ripken breaking Gehrig's consecutive games streak in 1995.
What did you think of these? Any you don't agree with? Any you think were missed?
Geez - 1941 was one heckuva year, wasn't it?
It was fairly amazing to see Charlie Hustle out there and I'm wondering how the Bambino could be left off this list.
